Viewers charged more than ₹100 for Aamir Khan's Sitaare Zameen Par on YouTube, team issues apology

Hindustan Times2 days ago
Actor Aamir Khan recently rolled out an unconventional pay-per-view model, aiming to shake up the OTT space and bring films directly to audiences via his official YouTube channel. Under this new model, viewers would be able to rent his films for a nominal fee, bypassing major streaming platforms like Netflix, Prime Video, and Disney+ Hotstar. However, the launch of his latest film Sitaare Zameen Par faced an unexpected hiccup. Several users flagged a pricing inconsistency when attempting to rent the film on Apple devices. While the promised rate was a flat ₹100, users reported being charged more.
Responding swiftly, Aamir Khan Productions issued an official statement on X (formerly Twitter). "Our sincere apologies. We just became aware that the cost to rent our film Sitaare Zameen Par is reflecting as ₹179 on Apple devices. We are trying to resolve this issue as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience and understanding," Aamir Khan Productions' official handle wrote on X.
The model itself is a strategic response to shifting audience behaviour in the post-pandemic era, where OTT has significantly disrupted theatrical footfall. Aamir clarified that this initiative is designed not only to make films more accessible across the country, especially in areas without easy access to cinemas, but also to bring people back to theatres by offering affordable alternatives.

Silo Season 3: Cast, plot, new faces, and everything to know about Apple TV+'s dystopian epic

Apple TV+ has officially renewed its hit sci-fi series 'Silo' for a third season, continuing the story based on Hugh Howey's dystopian trilogy 'Wool, Shift, and Dust'. The critically acclaimed series explores the lives of 10,000 survivors living deep underground in a silo, cut off from a toxic world above and governed by strict rules and deadly secrets. At the centre of the mystery is Juliette Nichols (Rebecca Ferguson), an engineer determined to uncover the truth behind a murder and the origins of their confined society. Season 3 will go back in time, drawing from Howey's second novel, Shift, to explore the events that led to the construction of the silo system. 'We get into the origin story [of the Pez dispenser], but we're also deep into our silo world,' showrunner Graham Yost told TIME in January 2025. 'There'll also be more to learn about the dirty bomb." Yost added in a December 2024 press release, 'It has been a richly rewarding experience to adapt Hugh's epic novels with our partners at Apple, and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to bring this complete story to the screen over the course of four seasons.' While no official release date has been announced, Apple confirmed on X that filming for season 3 wrapped in May 2025. Seasons 3 and 4 are being filmed back-to-back. Most of the main cast is expected to return, including Rebecca Ferguson, Steve Zahn, Common, Harriet Walter, Clare Perkins, and others. Jessica Henwick and Ashley Zukerman, who appeared in the season 2 finale, will join as regulars. Tim Robbins and Iain Glen may not return. Season 3 will offer a rare glimpse of the outside world, bringing light—literally and figuratively—into the dark, claustrophobic narrative. You can stream Silo exclusively on Apple TV+.

Tehran OTT release: John Abraham says it's 'disheartening' as theatres avoided film over controversies

John Abraham has expressed his disappointment over the direct-to-OTT release of his long-delayed film 'Tehran', which is now set to premiere on ZEE5 after being held back since 2023. Speaking to Bollywood Hungama, the actor admitted, 'It's very disheartening. I'm not going to mince my words on it, but it breaks your heart, especially for an actor who always wants to be seen on the big screen. But we all made a very informed decision on that. And the decision was that because of the conflicts and controversies that are happening around internationally.' The film, which features significant references to Iran and Israel, faced reluctance from cinema chains due to its sensitive geopolitical context. 'Theatres were a little wary of picking up a film that had Iran and Israel in it. We had a choice of either showing the film somewhere or not showing it at all,' John explained. Abraham credited ZEE5 for stepping in to give the film a home. 'Zee5 has been gracious and told us they would be our platform. But it also breaks your heart as an actor who only wants to be seen on the big screen,' he noted. Describing 'Tehran' as more of a foreign film, he added, 'When you will see the film, you will understand that why it will not resonate with a larger audience. It has got a lot of Farsi in it and a lot of Hebrew in it. It's only 1 hour and 50 minutes long. It's got a lot of foreign language in it.' Explaining the authenticity behind the language use, he said, 'The film is called Tehran and once you enter Tehran, you are not going to be speaking in Hindi… Having said all of it, it's finally coming out.' 'Tehran' will arrive on the streaming platform on August 14.

Dhadak 2 Box Office collection Day 3: Triptii Dimri, Siddhant Chaturvedi movie crosses ₹10 cr mark; mints THIS amount

Dhadak 2 Box Office collection Day 3: Shazia Iqbal's directorial debut starring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri witnessed a slow start after finally being released in the big screens following multiple delays. Three days into its theatrical release, the movie has now crossed the ₹ 10 crore mark. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Dhadak 2 movie's net collection as of Sunday evening, August 3, stands at ₹ 10.34 crore. The Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri starrer movie minted ₹ 2.74 crore, which is nearly ₹ 1 crore less as compared to Dhadak 2's collection on the first two days. However, Sunday's collection is only the early estimate, as the final figures are yet to trickle in. Here's a glimpse of how much Dhadak 2 minted on the first two days: Day 1 [1st Friday] - ₹ 3.5 crore Day 2 [1st Saturday] - ₹ 3.75 crore Dhadak 2 movie's Box Office collection on Day 3 also reflected in the footfalls, with the Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri film recording an overall 33.43 per cent Hindi Occupancy on Sunday, August 3. Theatres were filled up to 13.78 % in the morning, while the occupancy for afternoon shows stood at 38.19%, and 48.32% for evening shows. Film trade analyst Taran Adarsh gave Dhadak 2 a 3.5 star rating and said, 'Sharp writing. Captivating, emotionally-charged second half... Solid performances. Dhadak2 works for the most part... But the love story lacks the soul-stirring soundtrack that elevated the first part.'
