Auburn baseball lands Belmont transfer pitcher Ethan Harden

Auburn baseball lands Belmont transfer pitcher Ethan Harden

USA Today4 hours ago

Ethan Harden struck out 32 opposing batters over 29.2 innings as a Belmont Bruin in 2025.
The Auburn Tigers baseball season may have only ended a few short weeks ago, but head coach Butch Thompson and his staff are already busy seeking reinforcements in the transfer portal. One of those fresh faces officially committed this week, with former Belmont pitcher Ethan Harden set to join the Tigers next season.
The redshirt sophomore will join Butch Thompson's Tigers following a highly successful 2025 campaign as a Bruin. Standing at an even six-feet tall, the left handed reliever struck out 32 batters over 29 2/3 innings of work last season. Harden managed no earned runs across the final 6 innings of his campaign against eventual College World Series participant Murray State.
Auburn's newest relief pitching weapon also faired well against SEC competition in 2025. The incoming junior saw just one batter above the minimum in 2 scoreless frames against Kentucky early in the season before striking out 2 Vanderbilt Commodores in an inning he allowed a solo home run.
While predicting where the newest member of the Tigers' bullpen will fit in is difficult this far out into the season, Thompson's eagerness to capture Harden's talents in the portal this early in the offseason display how big of a piece he could be to Auburn's success in 2026.
Auburn will continue adding talent in hopes of reaching the College World Series for the first time since 2022 next season.

Instant Recap: LSU baseball beats UCLA and inches closer to a CWS finals trip

After taking game one in Omaha against Arkansas, LSU was scheduled to face the UCLA Bruins in the winner's bracket. The winner of this game would be one win away from the College World Series finals. LSU would pull away after the rain delay to win this one 9-5. Anthony Eyanson got the start on the mound for the Tigers, but things did not go according to plan. The Bruins scored three runs in the top of the first inning, and no ball went further than the infield. If the Tigers wanted to win this one, they would have to dig themselves out of an early hole. Advertisement It did not take them long to do that, as LSU took the lead in the bottom of the first inning, scoring four runs as Jake Brown hit an RBI single and Jared Jones hit a three-run bomb to give LSU a 4-3 lead. The score would remain that way until the bottom of the third inning when an RBI single by Luis Hernandez would hit an RBI single to increase the LSU lead to 5-3. Before the start of the fourth inning, the sky opened up, and rain started to pour in Omaha. The game was suspended until 10 a.m. CT on Tuesday. After the rain delay, Eyanson was done, so the question this morning was, who would Jay Johnson choose to pitch for the rest of this game? The answer to that was freshman Casan Evans. Evans entered and got a groundout and two strikeouts to send us to the bottom of the fourth. Advertisement The LSU bats picked up where they left off on Monday, as the Tigers plated two runs. Steven Milam hit an RBI single, and Jake Brown hit an RBI single to extend the LSU lead to 7-3. In the top of the sixth inning, UCLA had a runner on first with only one out, and Milam decided to show off some of his defensive prowess as he initiated a 6-3 double play in style. In the bottom of the seventh inning, Daniel Dickinson hit an RBI single to score Jones and extend the lead to 8-3 Tigers as we went to the eighth inning. After a single and a hit by pitch, Evans' day was done as Cooper Williams would enter to pitch. Advertisement Evans finished the day after pitching 4.1 innings and allowing two runs on four hits, five strikeouts, and zero walks. A walk, a fielder's choice, an RBI single, and another walk loaded the bases for the Bruins as they cut the lead to 8-5. That would be the end of the line for Williams as Chase Shores entered to pitch. Shores got a groundout on his first pitch to end the inning and keep LSU in the lead. In the bottom of the eighth inning, LSU looked to get some insurance runs to offset the two runs UCLA got in the top of the eighth. They would do just that as Jones hit an RBI single to extend the lead to 9-5. Shores retired the Bruins 1-2-3 and LSU is now one win away from a trip to the CWS final. Texas A&M lands commitment from elite 2026 five-star Edge out of Georgia

Texas A&M's recruiting success continued on Saturday afternoon, as one of the program's 13 visitors announced his commitment to the Aggies as a five-star edge Tristian Givens, who is currently taking his first official visit to College Station, became the 19th commit in A&M's 2026 cycle, and the second five-star commit alongside cornerback Brandon Arrington. Texas A&M's long history of recruiting and developing elite defensive linemen, and after sending Nic Scourton, Shemar Stewart, and Shemar Turner to the NFL this offseason, Elko and defensive line coaches Tony Jerod-Eddie and Sean Spencer can continue using the program's previous success to gain ground with elite pass rushers with NFL potential. Tristian Givens is that player, and the Georgia native has a bright future in front of him. Choosing the Aggies over Tennessee and Washington, where he recently took official visits, Texas A&M's future edge rotation will allow Givens to see the field earlier than expected, with senior Cashius Howell off to the NFL after the 2025 season. On the field, Givens is still raw as a pass rusher, having started his football career as a wide receiver, but possesses elite traits, especially his ability to bend and keep his balance once he turns the corner. Under Mike Elko, who will call the defensive plays this coming season, recruiting and developing NFL talent is the key to competing for a College Football Playoff spot. According to 247Sports, Givens is currently positioned as the 23rd-ranked prospect in the 2026 cycle, the 3rd-ranked edge, and the 4th-ranked prospect in Georgia. Five takeaways from LSU baseball's College World Series win vs. UCLA

In a game that spanned two days, LSU baseball beat UCLA on Tuesday and now the Tigers are one win away from a return to the College World Series final. LSU vs. UCLA originally began on Tuesday night. But after three innings, a lengthy weather delay forced a suspension until Tuesday morning, where the game picked up in the top of the fourth inning. Advertisement Anthony Eyanson got the start on Monday night, but the weather cut his start short. Eyanson allowed three runs in the first inning before settling in and pitching scoreless frames in the second and third. LSU would have liked to get more from its star pitcher, but the rain had other plans. When the game resumed on Tuesday, Jay Johnson went to Casan Evans, LSU's clear No. 3 arm. Evans delivered, pitching 4.1 innings, striking out five, and allowing just two runs. Evans allowed four hits, but didn't issue a single walk. It was a good 24 hours for the LSU offense, too. The Tigers scored four runs in the bottom of the first and scored again in the third on Monday. On Tuesday, LSU picked up right where it left off, scoring two runs in the fourth. The Tigers added insurance late in the game to give the bullpen breathing room. Advertisement This was LSU's sixth all-time meeting with the Bruins, a series LSU now leads 4-2. Here are five takeaways from LSU baseball's win vs. UCLA. 1. LSU slugger Jared Jones comes up clutch With UCLA leading early on Monday night, Jared Jones stepped to the plate with two runners on. Jones was coming off a 0-5 in LSU's win vs. Arkansas. Jones stayed back after LSU practice on Sunday to get in some extra work and have a one-on-one conversation with head coach Jay Johnson. It looked like that work paid off. Jones muscled a ball over the right field wall and gave LSU the lead with a three-run homer. When the game picked up on Tuesday, Jones was at it again. LSU's first baseman came up with a clutch RBI single in the bottom of the eighth to give LSU insurance. Advertisement Jones finished the game with two hits, four RBI, and a walk. 2. Casan Evans continues to emerge Casan Evans is emerging as one of the best pitchers in the sport. The freshman righty has elite stuff. And in the NCAA Tournament, he's found a different gear. Evans is far and away LSU's most reliable reliever. Jay Johnson faced a choice when the game resumed on Tuesday. Go right to Evans or save his arm for a potential double-header with Arkansas later on Tuesday? Johnson decided it was best to do what it takes to get the win. That meant giving the ball to Evans. Evans delivered, pitching 4.2 innings and allowing just two earned runs. He struck out five and didn't issue a walk. In 11.2 innings this postseason, Evans has allowed just three earned runs with a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 18/3. The freshman has proven ready for the big moment and is an emerging star in college baseball. 3. Chase Shores continues to gain trust With the bases loaded in the eighth inning and the go-ahead run at the plate, Jay Johnson turned to Chase Shores. The big righty began the year in LSU's rotation but was moved to the bullpen after inconsistent outings. Inconsistency followed Shores into the pen, but a light came on for Shores in the super regional. Advertisement Shores struck out three in 1.1 innings vs. West Virginia and delivered a scoreless inning vs. Arkansas. On Tuesday, all it took was one pitch for Shores to get out of the bases-loaded jam. In the ninth, Shores closed it out with a perfect inning. LSU was always going to need a bullpen arm to step up. It takes more than three pitchers to win in Omaha. It looks like Shores is becoming LSU's next best high-leverage option behind Evans. 4. LSU put the ball in play UCLA's pitching staff doesn't rely on strikeouts. LSU took advantage of that, only striking out seven times vs. the Bruins. When you put the ball in play, good things happen. Advertisement Look no further than Daniel Dickinson's bloop single in the seventh inning. Dickinson has struggled so far in Omaha, but he got just enough of a pitch for the ball to fall in right field, giving LSU another run. LSU has been too reliant on the home run ball at times in 2025. That hasn't been the case in Omaha with the Tigers finding other ways to score. LSU is getting on base and putting the bat on the ball. 5. LSU avoids double-header If LSU had lost, the Tigers would have played a double-header vs. Arkansas just hours later. The Razorbacks are arguably the most talented team in the tournament and are riding high after Gage Wood threw a no-hitter vs. Murray State on Monday. Advertisement With Anderson, Eyanson, and Evans all burned, LSU would have faced trouble vs. the Razorbacks on Tuesday. Especially with how fresh Arkansas' rotation is after Wood's complete game. Now, LSU doesn't have to worry about that. UCLA gets the privilege of facing Arkansas on Tuesday night while LSU gets to rest.
