The newly inducted Agniveers completed 31 weeks of physical, mental, and tactical training before marching in unison during the attestation ceremony. Senior Army officers, instructors, and recruits' family members attended the event.
The Reviewing Officer, a senior Army official, congratulated the newly inducted soldiers and encouraged them to uphold the rich legacy of the JAK LI Regiment with unwavering commitment and courage.
One Agniveer said, 'I am feeling very good. It was hard work for 31 weeks. It was great to see my parents after a period of 7 months.'
Another Agniveer added, 'It feels good to pass out, as I worked very hard for the recruitment. I'm going home after seven months. More youth should join the army.'
'I feel proud of myself for passing out, especially since the training was very hard. We will protect the country, and I am ready to be posted anywhere in the country,' said another Agniveer.
A parent present at the ceremony said, 'I am very pleased today. The recruits who were selected for the army completed their training, and today was their passing parade. It's a moment of happiness. Besides this, I want to tell the youth of today that they should not sit at home after completing their studies because it's a competitive era. As Eid is coming up, we will have two celebrations.'
Another parent from Kupwara expressed his happiness over the POP,
He says, 'We are very happy if my boy is passing out in this POP parade. So that's why we're here to watch the parade. We are very happy to be here in the parade. There is unemployment.' (ANI)

Search for trapped cloudburst victims enters fourth day in J&K's Kishtwar
Amid overcast conditions, the search operation to trace those missing in the cloudburst in this remote village of Jammu and Kashmir's Kishtwar district entered the fourth day on Sunday (August 17, 2025) with rescuers hopeful of clearing a major impact spot during the day, officials said. India monsoon highlights on August 17, 2025 Army engineers, meanwhile, have started working on a bailey bridge to restore connectivity to the village and the Machail Mata shrine and further intensify the rescue efforts. Cloudburst struck Chisoti, the last motorable village en route to the Machail Mata temple, on August 14, killing 60 persons and leaving 80 others missing, while 167 persons were rescued in an injured condition. The flash-floods triggered by the cloudburst left a trail of destruction, flattening a makeshift market, a langar (community kitchen) site for the yatra, damaging 16 houses and government buildings, three temples, four water mills, a 30-metre-long bridge, besides over a dozen vehicles. Giant boulders were also left scattered at various spots, especially around the worst-hit langar site and some of them hampering the search were blasted in a controlled explosion by the rescuers on Saturday (August 16) evening. The officials said the joint teams of police, Army, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Border Roads Organisation (BRO), civil administration, and local volunteers are continuing the rescue efforts. So far, 50 bodies have been identified and handed over to their next of kin after completion of legal formalities. General Officer Commanding of the Army's counter-insurgency Delta Force Maj Gen A.P.S. Bal said Army engineers have conducted a survey of the area after a need for the bridge was felt. 'We need a 17-metre bridge which will be installed to facilitate smooth movement across the river,' the officer said, adding the structure will be completed by Sunday (August 17) evening. He said the Army responded to the disaster within 45 minutes after getting the information. 'We are here because of the people. As you know, our country's policy nowadays is the whole of nation approach. So, if there is any security issue, not just physical security, but all kinds of security has to be provided, the whole of nation approach has to be followed,' he said. He said all the security forces deployed are trying their best to help as many people as possible. 'Besides saving lives, we also tried to provide them with medicine, food, and all kinds of things that we could provide,' he said. The annual Machail Mata Yatra, which began on July 25 and was scheduled to conclude on September 5, remained suspended for the fourth consecutive day on Sunday. The 8.5-km trek to the 9,500-foot-high shrine starts from Chisoti, located about 90 km from Kishtwar town. The rescuers are utilising over a dozen earth-movers and other heavy equipment while the NDRF mobilised its resources, including dog squads, to speed up the rescue operation.

'He was not at home…': Son recalls Kishtwar flashflood horror as father still missing
A man identified as Somnath went missing after a sudden flash flood struck Chishoti village in Kishtwar district on August 14, leaving his family devastated. His son, Pawan Kumar, has appealed to authorities for urgent help in tracing him. At least 60 people, many of them pilgrims visiting the Machail Mata shrine, have died, while over 100 have been injured. Several others remain missing as search and rescue operations continue. As Pawan Kumar recounted the moment the tragedy struck, he told news agency ANI, 'At that time, we were in the hotel we had set up, and we were serving food to the tourists who had come. After that, suddenly there was a flood. We left from there quickly, and when we looked back, nothing was left.' He added his father disappeared in the chaos. 'When we looked for our father, he was not there; we thought he must have come home, but he was not at home either. Then we understood that he had become a victim of the police are saying that they are looking for him, but nothing has been found so far. We would request the government to find our father as soon as possible,' he said. Kishtwar devastation Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah visited the affected villages on Saturday and met the survivors. He announced an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh each for the families of the deceased, ₹1 lakh for those severely injured, and ₹50,000 for those with minor injuries. For structural damages, RS 1 lakh will be provided for fully destroyed houses, ₹50,000 for severely damaged ones, and ₹25,000 for partially damaged homes. Major General APS Bal, General Officer Commanding (GOC) Counter Insurgency Force, Delta, said the army was among the first responders. '...All the security forces are trying their best to rescue as many people as possible from the area affected by the cloudburst. We are also providing relief to the local people who have suffered due to this disaster... The Indian Army was the first to respond to this disaster, and they reached the spot within 45 minutes,' he told reporters.
