Ministers express appreciation for workers' contributions on Labour Day
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said this year's theme 'Pekerja Kesuma Bangsa' is a tribute to all who dedicate their energy and effort for the country's progress.
He said the government remains committed to championing workers' rights and welfare, while strengthening a fair, progressive and competitive work ecosystem.
"We want every drop of sweat to be rewarded with opportunity, recognition and justice," said Zahid, who is also the Rural and Regional Development Minister.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said that in facing current challenges, the role of workers is increasingly vital in supporting fair and inclusive decision-making.
"The contributions, service and ideas of workers across sectors are the foundation of national development and progress.
"May we fulfil our communal duties with sincerity and dedication in every task entrusted to us," said the Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister.
Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the government recognises and values the contributions of workers in both the public and private sectors, who form the backbone of national development.
He added that the hard work of workers not only supports their families but also contributes to the prosperity of society and national stability.
"Let us continue to uphold workers' rights and welfare, while nurturing a work culture that is productive, trustworthy and full of integrity," he said.
Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said every worker plays a vital role in building the nation, and that the progress and prosperity enjoyed today would not be possible without them.
"This includes members of the Malaysian Armed Forces. Without our patriots who serve the country, we would not experience true freedom and peace," he said.
Economy Minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli described May 1 as a significant and symbolic date to honour workers who are the heartbeat and backbone of the national economy.
He said the government has introduced the Progressive Wage Policy to raise private sector salaries, increased public sector wages, and raised the minimum wage to RM1,700 a month.
"The Madani government will continue to adopt strategic approaches to protect workers' welfare and boost incomes," he added.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said said Malaysia today celebrates the commitment and efforts of all workers who are the driving force of national development. "The Madani government, through legal and institutional reforms, will continue to safeguard workers' rights and wellbeing," she said.
Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said that regardless of sector, position or role, every worker's effort drives Malaysia's progress and wellbeing.
"Whether in cities or rural areas, in the public or private sectors, entrepreneurs or gig workers - you are all true national heroes," he said.
Deputy Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan said the theme 'Pekerja Kesuma Bangsa' aligns with the Madani government's aim to nurture talent with strong values, cultural awareness and competitiveness, capable of exploring new fields and high-skill areas.
"In conjunction with this year's Labour Day, I extend my sincere thanks to all workers who have contributed to Malaysia's success," he said. - Bernama

In relations to this, Malaysia's export of furniture, lighting signs and prefabricated building materials were estimated at US$1.55bil (about RM7bil) in 2024. 'Lower tariffs can enable greater access to quality construction materials and technologies at competitive prices, supporting our goal to build smarter, greener and more liveable homes & cities,' he added. Nga also warmly welcomed the announcement of the upcoming visit of United States President Donald Trump for the 47th Asean Summit in Kuala Lumpur this October, as announced by the Prime Minister during the tabling of the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) in Parliament on Thursday (July 31). 'President Trump's presence in KL will further cement the Asean–US partnership. Malaysia upgrades Borneo-Indonesia border roads under 13MP
KUCHING: The proposed upgrade of road networks along the Sabah-Sarawak-Kalimantan border under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) marks a continuation of efforts to strengthen cross-border infrastructure between Malaysian Borneo and Indonesia. Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas stated that the state government had long advocated for this initiative and praised the federal government's commitment. 'The Premier, Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, has already announced related projects like the Sarawak-Sabah Link Road Phases 1 and 2. We are now finalising a new alignment,' said Uggah, who also serves as Sarawak's Infrastructure and Port Development Minister. DPM Zahid hails Smart's three decades of service
KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has praised the Special Malaysia Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (Smart) for its outstanding service over the past 30 years, noting its role in enhancing Malaysia's reputation on the global stage. He said Smart has contributed to the safety of people in Malaysia and overseas through its participation in search and rescue operations as well as humanitarian missions. "From post-earthquake rescue missions in Türkiye and Nepal, to humanitarian operations during the tsunami tragedy in Aceh, and involvement in major flood relief work in Selangor, Pahang and Kelantan — Smart has always stood at the nation's frontlines in the most critical moments," he said. Zahid, who is also the National Disaster Management Committee chairman, said this in a Facebook post in conjunction with Smart's 30th anniversary celebration today. He said Smart's achievements are even more commendable as it became the first team in Southeast Asia to attain the "Heavy" classification for urban search and rescue (USAR) operations from the International Search and Rescue Advisory Group (INSARAG), thereby strengthening Malaysia's standing in the international rescue network. He said Smart has earned the trust of Russia to serve as a mentor to its search and rescue team, RUS-03, in preparation for INSARAG evaluation. "I am impressed by the team's dedication, discipline and continuous adaptation of advanced technology. "Smart is now more than just an elite team; it is an institution that is recognised and respected.
