'First attempt failed, they returned and strangled her': 16-year-old kills mother with boyfriend's help in Telangana; victim opposed their relationship

HYDERABAD: A 16-year-old girl allegedly killed her mother at their home in Jeedimetla on Monday night with the help of her boyfriend and his brother. The girl, a Class 10 student, was upset with her mother for disapproving of her affair with an 18-year-old boy she had befriended on Instagram last Dec. The girl had initially eloped with the boy on June 19 after which the mother, 39, had registered a kidnapping case. Police officers had found the girl at the home of the boy's grandparents in Suryapet and brought her back. The boy was detained and later sent for counselling. This had led to the mother and daughter quarrelling almost daily. Police officers claim the girl decided to kill her mother and asked the two boys to help her commit the crime. On Monday night, the girl sent her 14-year-old younger sister out of the house on some pretext. Soon, the two boys entered the house and the trio strangled the girl's mother. Meanwhile, the younger sister returned home, found the mother in an unconscious state and alerted her sister. On the pretext of calling an ambulance, the 16-year-old again called up the two boys. The duo allegedly returned, sent the younger girl out again and strangled the mother a second time to ensure she was dead and then left. When the younger girl returned home, she grew suspicious about her mother's death and informed her relatives who called in the police. Woman killed before girl's statement was noted by magistrate During questioning, the younger sister told the officials about the presence of the two boys in the house. Officials then questioned the older girl who spilled the beans on the murder. Investigations revealed that the 16-year-old was born after the victim's first marriage. When her husband died, the woman married again and had her second daughter. But her second husband too passed away after which she moved into a rented house at Shapur Nagar in Jeedimetla with her two daughters. In December 2024, her elder daughter befriended the 18-year-old on Instagram and gradually entered into a relationship. After the kidnapping case was booked on June 19, police officials had filed a petition before a magistrate to get the girl's statement recorded under the BNS. But the woman was killed before the statement was recorded.

‘In our tradition, death is avenged…': Police receive threat after sharpshooter killed encounter

Hours after wanted gangster Romil Vohra was gunned down in a joint operation by the Delhi and Haryana Police in South Delhi on Tuesday, a purported social media post emerged claiming that the encounter was fake and that the death would be avenged. Delhi Police officers said they are aware of the post and are probing its authenticity. A senior police officer said the post, uploaded on Instagram, is being taken seriously. 'If required, proper legal action will be taken, including registering an FIR for threatening police officers,' the officer said. On Instagram, a profile named bhanu_rana61 stated, 'Aj jo hamare bhai sath, Romil Vohra ke sath Dilli mein police walon ne jo fake encounter kiya hai to iska badla jaroor lenge. Isme koi prashan wala aaye ya koi bhi banda ayega to hum iska badla jaroor lenge aur hum apne bhai ko insaaf dilayenge….Usko do din pehle uthaya to aaj uska fake encounter kiya…hamare riwaz mein maut ka badla maut hai… (Today, the fake encounter that the police in Delhi carried out with our brother, Romil Vohra… we will definitely avenge it. Whether there is any questioning or anyone who comes in the way, we will surely take revenge and get justice for our brother. He was picked up two days ago, and today they staged a fake encounter… In our tradition, death is avenged by death).' The post was uploaded with the names of 'Kala Rana Giroh and Bhanu Rana Group'. According to a Delhi Police officer, alleged gangster Virender Pratap alias Kala Rana used to operate in collaboration with the Lawrence Bishnoi syndicate at Kurukshetra and Yamunanagar in Haryana. For the past few months, his younger brother, Surya Pratap alias Noni Rana – suspected to be based in Canada – has been running the gang from abroad, following his extradition to India from Bangkok in 2022. The Rana gang is allegedly involved in multiple cases of murder and extortion, targeting businessmen and builders in Haryana, the officer said. He further said that Rana was involved in the daring escape of gangster Kuleep Mann alias Fajja from East Delhi's GTB Hospital in March 2021. Fajja, a member of the Gogi gang, was later killed in a shootout in Rohini. 'Bhanu Rana is a close associate of the Kala Rana and Noni Rana group. He went abroad along with Noni a few years ago and has been operating as a messenger for the Rana gang,' the officer added.

Brazilian tourist found dead after falling from Indonesian volcano

A young Brazilian hiker who fell hundreds of metres from the ridge of a towering Indonesian volcano and was trapped there for almost four days was found dead on Tuesday, Brazil's government said. In this undated photo released by the Indonesian National Search and Rescue Agency on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, rescuers prepare for the evacuation operation for Juliana Marins, a Brazilian tourist who fell off the ridge of Mount Rinjani while hiking near the volcano's summit, in Lombok, Indonesia. (AP) For days, millions of people in Brazil had watched, posted and prayed as rescuers tried to locate her. The tourist, 26-year-old Juliana Marins, began summiting on June 21 Mount Rinjani, an active 3,726-metre volcano on the Indonesian island of Lombok, with a guide and five other foreigners when she fell some 600 metres, Indonesian authorities said. 'No signs of life were found,' said Mohammad Syafii, head of Indonesia's National Search and Rescue Agency. Marins' family in Brazil confirmed her death. The Indonesian rescue team said it found Marins' body beside a crater using a thermal drone after four days of intensive searches complicated by extremely harsh terrain and weather. The difficult conditions and limited visibility delayed the evacuation process, Syafii said, as the rescue team climbed carrying Marins' body to Sembalun basecamp but would have to wait until Wednesday for transport to a police hospital. Brazil's Foreign Ministry called her death a tragedy and said that the country's embassy in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, had coordinated the rescue with local authorities. Marins' ordeal has riveted her home country, Brazil, with millions following the dramatic search-and-rescue efforts since news broke of her fall. Authorities did not say when exactly she died. Adding to the frenzy in Brazil over her ordeal, Brazil's embassy in Jakarta had accused the Indonesian government of fabricating Marins' rescue and misinforming her family that she had been located and given food and water just hours after her fall. There was no immediate response from the Indonesian government on that claim. Indonesia's island of Lombok lies east of Jakarta and neighbours the island of Bali. Mount Rinjani, the country's second-tallest peak, is a popular destination for trekkers. In an Instagram post, Marins' family thanked the many Brazilians who had prayed for their daughter's safety. Marins, a dancer who lived in Niteroi, outside Rio de Janeiro, had been traveling across Asia since February, her family said. She had visited the Philippines, Vietnam and Thailand before reaching Indonesia. (AP) GRS GRS
