Tenacious D to release cover of REO Speedwagon's Keep On Loving You
Tenacious D have announced their first new music since going on hiatus in 2024.
The comedy rock duo of Jack Black and Kyle Gass will appear on a new compilation album benefiting victims of the recent Los Angeles wildfires, contributing a cover of REO Speedwagon's Keep On Loving You.
The album, Good Music To Lift Los Angeles, is also set to feature previously-unreleased recordings from Death Cab For Cutie, Chelsea Wolfe, King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard, R.E.M., Health, The Armed and others.
It will be available on the Bandcamp page of record label Good Music for 24 hours from 12:01am Pacific time on Friday, February 7. Proceeds will go to the L.A. Regional Food Bank and California Community Foundation's Wildfire Fund.
Keep On Loving You will be the second Tenacious D cover to come out in the last 12 months, following their rendition of Britney Spears' …Baby One More Time, which appeared on the soundtrack to Black's film Kung Fu Panda 4.
The band also released an original track, Video Games, in 2023 and seemed to be gearing up for a new album. However, all of their plans, including all announced tour dates, were cancelled in July, after Gass told a joke onstage about the assassination attempt against then-former US president Donald Trump the previous day.
Gass made the seemingly off-the-cuff comment during the Sydney stop of Tenacious D's Australia and New Zealand tour. When Black presented his bandmate with a cake for his 64th birthday and told him to make a wish, he said into his microphone, 'Don't miss Trump next time.'
In response to Gass's quip, Australian senator Ralph Babet called for Tenacious D to be deported from the country. Black issued a statement on Instagram, saying he was 'blindsided' by Gass' comment and putting the band on ice. Gass later issued a now-deleted written apology.
In August, Black offered an update on the status of Tenacious D to Variety. He confirmed the band will return later down the line and that he and Gass remain friends, but that they 'need to take a break'.
It's unclear when Tenacious D recorded their new cover, but they have played it multiple times live over the years. Watch one performance below.
Good Music To Lift Los Angeles won't be the only wildfire charity benefit album to drop this week. Another compilation – Los Angeles Rising, featuring Nick Cave, PJ Harvey, Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker and others – is now available to download via Bandcamp.

If I had a nickel for each 2025 movie that became a surprise hit by mixing supernatural folklore with music, I'd have two nickels. That's not a lot, but considering those movies are Sinners and KPop Demon Hunters, I'm pleased to have that collective dime to frame. I'm perfectly happy without a sequel to writer/director Ryan Coogler's genre bending masterpiece, as that story was so tightly told that it doesn't need a sequel. KPop, on the other hand, is part of a much larger story directors/co-writers Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans have hyped up through various interviews. As if the Sony Pictures Animation production couldn't be popular enough, the adventures of Huntr/x have set a new Netflix record so specific, I'm shocked we haven't heard a sequel announcement. KPop Demon Hunters Still Doesn't Have A Sequel Announcement I presume if you're the holder of a Netflix subscription, you've already partaken in the movie being discussed at least once. If you haven't, I've written a primer on why you need to watch KPop Demon Hunters, so you're covered. Before you run off, however, take a look at Netflix's official announcement of why this film's return to #1 in the US Top 10 is such an achievement: Any streaming title that can re-top the charts after five weeks is clearly something to pay attention to. I Didn't Have Stitch Dancing To KPop Demon Hunters Music At Disney World On My Bingo Card, But I'm So Glad It Exists

Two of the biggest hits of the summer have been Disney's billion-dollar blockbuster, the live-action Lilo & Stitch, and Netflix and Sony Animation's KPop Demon Hunters. Considering the two blockbusters come from very different studios, you wouldn't expect to find them together, and yet that's exactly what's happening at Walt Disney World. Stitch Is Apparently A Fan Of KPop Demon Hunters A video on TikTok recently went viral from a recent guest at Disney World who was confused to see Stitch dancing at Magic Kingdom's Tomorrowland, not to a song from the Lilo & Stitch soundtrack, but to 'Soda Pop,' one of the songs off the soundtrack to Kpop Demon Hunters. It may seem strange, but the whole thing is still pretty amazing. I mean, everybody else is dancing around to the music of KPop Demon Hunters, so why should Stitch be left out? I love this video. The only problem is the small child who wants to meet Stitch, but has to be moved away so they don't get accidentally knocked over by the dancing character. I hope the kid got to say hi later. I haven't even had a chance to watch KPop Demon Hunters yet, but my daughter is as obsessed with the soundtrack like everybody else, so I know the music well. If we'd been there, we would have been dancing along with Stitch to be sure. Both the original post and the comments are seemingly blown away by the fact that Stitch is dancing to this particular song. While the music has been insanely popular for months, the simple fact that Disney doesn't own this particular IP makes it an odd choice. You wouldn't necessarily expect Disney World to give any space to music they don't own when there is so much Disney music that could be used instead. Disney Parks Actually Use Non-Disney Music All The Time While a certain amount of cognitive dissonance at seeing Stitch dance to 'Soda Pop' is to be expected, it's actually not all that unusual for Disney Parks to use popular music they don't own for entertainment like this, even when it runs up against IP that is arguably directly in competition with Disney. Over at Disney California Adventure, when The Mad T Party Band used to perform, one of the songs that was in the setlist for a long time was Pharrell Williams' 'Happy,' a song that was written for the second Despicable Me. I'm sure a lot of people thought of the Illumination Animation movie when that song played, even though they were standing in the middle of the Disneyland Resort. And who knows, at the rate at which Disney continues to buy things, maybe they'll end up owning KPop Demon Hunters, and then they can dance with Stitch at Disney World every day.
