Emergency services swarmed both Tallebudgera Creek and Palm Beach, in the Gold Coast's south, over the weekend after the devastating discoveries of two bodies
Police have launched an investigation after the bodies of two people were discovered on separate beaches just 24 hours apart.

The first discovery was made around 6.45am on Saturday, when the body of a man in his 60s was discovered at Echo Beach, Tallebudgera Creek.

Just under a day later, at around 5.40am on Sunday, the body of a woman, believed to be in her 70s or 80s, was found near Palm Beach Surf Lifesaving Club on Jefferson Lane, reports the Mirror.

Emergency services raced to both scenes on the Gold Coast following the heartbreaking discoveries. Neither death is being treated as suspicious and police have not said if they are linked in any way.
Queensland Police said: " Police are appealing for public information to identify a woman who was located deceased at Palm Beach around 5.40am this morning, July 20.

"The woman is described as Caucasian, approximately in her 70s or 80s, 160-165cm in height, with short, grey hair.

Scots wife's terror as monster who beat her over four decades makes freedom bid

Eve Graham says she is terrified William McDonald will be freed early – and target her again. A wife battered over four decades by her husband has told of her terror after he launched a freedom bid. William McDonald pushed wife Eve Graham into the sea from a pier, bit her on the nose and smashed her over the head with a bucket in brutal attacks. The 76-year-old, from Ardersier, Inverness-shire, was jailed for two years last month after being convicted of charges spanning 47 years, with a judge saying he had demonstrated a 'disturbing propensity towards violence and cruelty'. His lawyers have now lodged appeals against his conviction and sentence. Eve, 67, says she is terrified McDonald will be freed early – and target her again. She said: 'I'm shocked and worried that he may get off with it. Two years was a very lenient sentence to begin with for the extent of the offences and he will probably be out in one. 'Only since he got put in jail have I been able to sleep at night without worrying that he'll come and get me. If he does get out I will go back to what I was like before – living on a knife-edge.' Eve was 17 when she met McDonald and agreed to marry him four months later. The abuse began within months, with the ex-engineer pushing her, causing her to hit her head on stairs in 1975. Attacks between then and 1981 saw McDonald shout and swear at Eve, hit her head with a bucket and pull and grab her body. Eve first alerted police in 1979 when she was dragged by her hair by McDonald at their home in East Kilbride. But she claims he was simply given a 'talking to'. In 1981, McDonald threw her and repeatedly shook her causing her to hit her head on a chair because she asked him and a friend to turn music down while she cared for her sleeping baby. Police were called and took the baby out of the property but Eve claims no further action was taken. In 1987, McDonald pushed Eve off a pier in Nairn, where they had moved with their two children. She previously said: 'I didn't tell the police. I felt like nobody could help me. Every time nothing happened it gave him more power.' The folk musician was convicted of more abuse between August 2019 and August 2022. In one assault he put a towel over her head and bit her on the nose. In a final attack in 2022, McDonald knelt on Eve's arm, causing deep bruising, and pushed her against walls. On the advice of her GP, she spoke to police. In 2023, Eve went on to lodge a formal complaint over the police investigation. At the High Court in Edinburgh, judge Michael O'Grady KC told McDonald he had shown 'deeply unpleasant and gratuitous cruelty'. Police Scotland said complaints over its handling of the case had not been upheld and the force was committed to tackling domestic abuse.

Dad's desperate plea to find son who vanished 20 years ago after never arriving at work

The then 32-year-old was reported missing when he failed to show up to work on the morning of July 21 2005. A body has never been located and the circumstances remain unknown The dad of a man who went missing 20 years ago has issued an emotional plea as police renew an appeal for information into his disappearance two decades on. ‌ Simon Knight was 32 when he was last seen at a Crown Street hotel on the morning of July 21, 2005, and was reported missing later that day after he did not arrive for his shift at a café in Newtown. At the time there were few clues leading detectives to what happened to the aspiring chef. ‌ Despite extensive investigations at the time, and over the years, Simon, from Redfern, has never been found with a second coronial inquest in 2015 finding it was likely Simon had died. However, a body has never been located and the circumstances are unknown. ‌ Detectives from South Sydney Police Area Command are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding Mr Knight's disappearance under Strike Force Glenlea. In November 2020, a NSW Government reward was increased to $250,000 for information into Simon's disappearance. ‌ At the time of his disappearance, Simon was described as being of Caucasian appearance, 183cm tall, with blue eyes, a fair complexion, red hair and facial hair. When he was last seen, it is believed he was wearing a dark green T-shirt and blue jeans. Minister for Police and Counter-terrorism, Yasmin Catley said that despite the passage of time, Simon's family needed answers. She said: 'Losing a loved one is devastating, but the not knowing makes the loss so much harder. 'Today we appeal to anyone who might have the smallest piece of information, which can help police bring answers about Simon's disappearance for the Knight family." ‌ South Sydney Police Area Commander, Acting Superintendent Christopher Hill said police believe there is someone out there that knows something about Simon's disappearance. Mr Hill said: 'To support this search for answers, anyone who may have held onto information since Simon's disappearance, is urged to come forward. 'We are keen to speak with anyone who lived or frequented Crown and Oxford streets, Surry Hills, in July 2005, particularly if they knew Simon and have not yet spoken to police. Any piece of new information – no matter how seemingly insignificant – could be the key to solve this case and help provide much-needed answers to Simon's family about what happened to him.' Simon's father, Bob Knight said although it has now been 20 years since Simon's disappearance, our family are very grateful to the police for their assistance and the work they have done to find out what happened to Simon. He said: 'Our family are still waiting, hoping one day we will get answers and closure. So please if you know anything, please get in touch with the police or Crime Stoppers.' The $250,000 reward is available for information leading to the discovery of Simon Knight's whereabouts or disclosing the circumstances of his disappearance.

Tragedy as talented athlete Tommy Oswald dies aged just 33 after becoming known as 'Australia's nicest bloke' thanks to a stunning act of generosity

The Aussie athletics community has been rocked by the tragic death of much-loved young father and talented runner Tommy Oswald, who was once dubbed 'Australia's nicest bloke'. Oswald, 33, captured the hearts of the nation in 2015 by taking in his homeless, pregnant teenage cousin when she had nowhere else to turn. The athlete also founded the very popular Facebook page Athletes Australia, a community with more than 35,000 members. On Saturday, a post to the page shared the tragic news of Oswald's death. 'This is by far the hardest post I have ever had to write in this group and just a warning that this may be very tough to read,' Tim Ohthy wrote. 'I am devastated to let everyone know that yesterday the founder of this amazing group Tommy Oswald passed away suddenly. 'Tommy was not only passionate about athletics, but just a damn good human being. Whilst always being up for a laugh and quick to take the piss out of anything and everything, he was equally quick when it came to supporting a mate, looking after family or just helping a complete stranger out. 'He had an incredibly kind heart, which he shared with MANY people both inside this group and outside. 'My thoughts are with his wife Alana and his little girl Ella during this tough time. As well as the rest of his family, close friends, work colleagues and basically anyone who had the pleasure of meeting Tommy.' Oswald's family also released a statement. 'The world is a lesser place today after the death of Tommy Oswald. Tommy, 33, was a beautiful young father and loving husband, who had a huge impact on the lives of all who knew him,' they said. 'Police are investigating the cause of his death, and his wife Alana and extended family have asked for privacy during this terrible time. 'They will not be making any further comment.' Oswald's cousin Kiarna, whom he took in 10 years ago, posted to Facebook: 'I'm so broken that you're gone it's breaking my heart. Tommy you will always be my favourite cousin, I love you forever.' Shattered Aussie runners have posted tributes to Oswald online A swathe of shattered Australian athletes have also posted tributes online, including Jane Fleming, Sally Pearson and Melinda Gainsford-Taylor. Olympian Glynis Nunn posted: 'Tommy spoke to everyone on the ground and just loved his family and friends. Never too busy for anyone. Opened his heart to all. A tragic loss to the community far and wide. Prayers to his family.' One of Oswald's friends, Jason Wright, has set up a GoFundMe page to support his devastated family. 'I am privileged to have been Tommy's mate for 10 years,' he posted. 'He was the guy that helps you move, jumps on a ladder and helps you paint a gutter, picks you up from the pub drunk or goes for a long beach walk and listens to your problems. 'Many of my network and friends have been privileged to experience his friendship and/or had the opportunity to work with him and I am now asking you to help his family with a gesture of goodwill.'
