India's Venture Capital Fundraising Hits $3.2B in 2025, Exceeds 2024
News18
India's venture capital fundraising has risen so far in 2025, driven by a flurry of startups backed by strong fundamentals, significantly ahead of 2024. According to a Moneycontrol report citing Bain & Company and Indian Venture and Alternate Capital Association (IVCA) report, 18 venture capital firms have raised to $3.2 billion against the five-year low in 2024 at $2.7 billion.
The high fundraising is being driven by global as well as domestic names, including Accel ($650 million), A91 Partners ($665 million), Bessemer Venture Partners ($350 million), Cornerstone VC ($200 million) and Prime Venture Partners ($100 million), as per Moneycontrol report.
Several more firms, including Nexus Venture Partners, Fireside Ventures, and Info Edge Ventures, are currently in the market to raise funds. If these deals go through, the total fundraising could touch $4.6 billion — surpassing 2023's $4 billion and signaling a sharp rebound from last year's slowdown.
Dr Pankaj Jethwani, Managing Partner at W Health Ventures told Moneycontrol that high-quality funds can raise capital in any cycle. 'Fund cycles are kicking in, and LP sentiment towards India is cautiously optimistic," he added, saying with China largely off the table for many Western LPs, there's a significant pool of capital seeking a new home.
India offers structural advantages — relatively safe borders, a growing engineering and AI talent base, and a large local consumer market," he added.

Russia has 'special mechanisms' to supply oil to India
Russia will continue supplying oil to India and the country's President Vladimir Putin will meet India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi by the end of year, a Russian embassy official in India said on Wednesday. Russia has a "very, very special mechanism" to continue oil supplies to India, Roman Babushkin, the charge d'affaires at the Russian embassy in India, told reporters at a press briefing, adding that India's crude oil imports from Russia will remain at the same level. No dates had been finalised for the Putin-Modi meeting yet, he said. The U.S. is set to impose an additional 25% tariff on Indian exports on August 28, citing their imports of Russian oil, which expanded after Western nations sanction Russian supply after its invasion of Ukraine. However, the U.S. has stopped short of imposing similar tariffs on China over its purchases of Russian oil. Last month, the European Union sanctioned Russian-backed Indian refinery Nayara Energy, leading the refiner to cut back processing and companies to curtail their trading with them. Trade between Indian and Russia was expected to grow 10% annually, Evgeniy Griva, Deputy Trade Representative of Russia to India said at the briefing.

Nepals claim on Lipulekh neither justified nor based on historical facts: MEA
Agency: PTI Last Updated: New Delhi, Aug 20 (PTI) India on Wednesday categorically rejected Nepal's objection to a decision by New Delhi and Beijing to resume border trade through Lipulekh pass, saying Kathmandu's claims on the territory are not justified. India and China on Tuesday agreed to resume border trade through Lipulekh pass and two other trading points. The Nepalese foreign ministry on Wednesday objected to the move to resume border trade through Lipulekh pass saying the territory is an inseparable part of Nepal. In 2020, Nepal triggered a border row by issuing a political map that showed Kalapani, Limpiyadhura and Lipulekh as part of the country. India had strongly trashed the claims. External affairs ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal rejected Nepal's territorial claims. 'We have noted the comments of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nepal related to resumption of border trade between India and China through the Lipulekh pass," he said. 'Our position in this regard has been consistent and clear. Border trade between India and China through Lipulekh pass had commenced in 1954 and has been going on for decades," he added. Jaiswal said the trade had been disrupted in recent years due to COVID-19 pandemic and other developments, and both sides have now agreed to resume it. 'As regards territorial claims, our position remains that such claims are neither justified nor based on historical facts and evidence. Any unilateral artificial enlargement of territorial claims is untenable," he said. 'India remains open to constructive interaction with Nepal on resolving agreed outstanding boundary issues through dialogue and diplomacy," he added.
