Last Updated:
Tulsi Smriti Irani and Mihir Amar Upadhyay were spotted at Ekta Kapoor's house as Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi gears up for a comeback with a 150-episode reboot.
After years of speculation and anticipation, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi is finally making a grand return — and fans of the iconic show have reason to celebrate. Smriti Irani and Amar Upadhyay, who became household names as Tulsi and Mihir, were recently seen at producer Ekta Kapoor's residence, sparking talk of a full-fledged revival. It was also the TV Czarina's birthday on June 7.
Smriti Irani, who left a lasting impression on Indian television as Tulsi Virani, is reportedly back in front of the camera. According to a report, the actress-turned-politician is returning to acting after a long break, and this time, she's filming under Z+ security. With cameras rolling once again, it seems her much-awaited comeback is officially underway.
The new season has been under wraps for a while, but excitement surged after the viral appearance of the original leads outside Ekta's home. Amar Upadhyay, dressed in a sharp white shirt and off-white trousers, posed for photographers. Smriti, dressed in a graceful salwar suit, greeted the media with her familiar warmth. The video has stirred massive excitement, hinting at something big brewing in the production house.
Insiders have however confirmed that filming for the reboot has already begun. While the new edition is expected to be a shorter series, the long-term vision is bold. The new season of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi is expected to be a limited series with around 150 episodes but is designed with the long-term goal of reaching the landmark 2000-episode count once again.
The original Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi aired from 2000 to 2008, becoming one of Indian TV's biggest cultural phenomena. Produced by Shobha and Ekta Kapoor under the Balaji Telefilms banner, the series made history and shaped prime-time television for nearly a decade.
Smriti Irani politics
Smriti Irani's return is also significant given her high-profile political career. She joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2003 and later took on several important government roles. She served as Union Minister for Human Resource Development from 2014 to 2016, then led the Ministry of Textiles until 2021. She also held the Information and Broadcasting portfolio between 2017 and 2018. In 2019, she became the Union Minister for Women and Child Development.
Fans are not only eager to see Tulsi and Mihir back but are also hoping for more original faces to return. Rumours suggest that actresses like Mouni Roy and Karishma Tanna might also make cameo appearances. A grand promotional video featuring several former cast members is also said to be in the works.
With a nostalgic story set to unfold once again, Ekta Kapoor seems ready to recreate the magic of Kyunki for a new generation — while staying true to what made it unforgettable the first time.
