Hollyoaks tour cancelled ahead of huge anniversary over 'low ticket sales'
A huge tour for a major TV show has been dramatically axed due to low ticket sales. Hollyoaks Live, which is an external production from the Channel 4 soap opera, was expected to hit the road, giving fans an insight into the popular programme but bosses have been forced to pull the plug.
But while a string of famous faces from the show had signed on the dotted line to meet with fans, the production, which was due to take place in October, will no longer be going ahead.
Soap stars including Nick Pickard, Kieron Richardson, Jorgie Porter, Gary Lucy, and Ashley Taylor Dawson were set to meet fans who had splashed out a whopping £161 for meet and greet tickets, allowing them to ask burning questions about their favourite TV show. It comes after reports Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are set for new 'goldmine' offer - but could face issue.
However, sources have claimed that bosses behind the production had "overestimated" the appeal for the show, which was due to take place in Manchester, Glasgow and London, had been left with no option but to cancel the entire tour.
"The promoter massively over-estimated the appeal a live stage show would have to Hollyoaks' core audience," a source said. They went on to tell The Sun: "The ticket prices were incredibly high for a show that's popular with teenagers.
"The decision was made to pull the tour rather than have a loss-making venture with empty theatres." But those who purchased tickets for the events will be offered refunds at their points of purchase.
It's understood that the tour was organised by an external production team, with Hollyoaks and Channel 4 having very limited involvement in the planning. A spokesperson for the tour said in a statement: "Due to unforeseen circumstances, the planned theatre events with Maple Tree Entertainment featuring Hollyoaks cast are not going to take place as planned.
"We are sad to disappoint those who had purchased tickets but they will be refunded via the venues." However, it's a stark contrast for ITV soap, Coronation Street, which is going ahead with a live theatre tour.
Long standing cast members from the Manhcester based soap opera will appear at theatres across the nation to discuss their time on the show, in a production which has been billed An Audience with Coronation Street.
Fans will pay more than £30 with the promoters promising "behind-the-scenes secrets, share hilarious stories, and relive heart-warming moments from the iconic ITV show".
Hosted by This Morning's resident soap expert, Sharon Marshall, the show promises to be filled with laughter, nostalgia, and "more than a few jaw-dropping surprises!"
Each event will feature five Coronation Street stars live on stage, including a surprise Corrie legend. The line-up will vary at each venue, with fan-favourite cast members including Andrew Whyment (Kirk Sutherland), Jack P Shepherd (David Platt), Samia Longchambon (Maria Connor), and Simon Gregson (Steve McDonald), with more names to be announced soon.
Additionally, former show legends will also appear on stage. The tour will start in September and includes dates in London, Sheffield, Manchester and Glasgow.
Promoters say in the first half, the audience will be treated to an intimate and lively interview session with some of Corrie's most beloved cast members.
Ever wondered what goes on between takes? Curious about those off-screen friendships and real-life dramas? This is your chance to hear all the gossip straight from the source.
The second act will feature a Corrie legend who will appear on stage and talk about their time on the ITV show.

Hollyoaks star speaks out over sudden exit and says it's a 'massive shame'
Hollyoaks viewers were in for a surprise today as the latest episode confirmed that Robbie Roscoe had been killed by Jez Blake weeks ago despite appearing to be alive since then A Hollyoaks star has opened up about their unexpected departure from the soap opera. Viewers have been left stunned this week after it was revealed that a character had been killed off without fans realising until now. Charlie Wernham, 30, made his first appearance as Robbie Roscoe on the Channel 4 show in 2013, before leaving in 2016. He returned last year and his character has now been killed off more than a decade since his debut on the soap. Earlier this year, Robbie had taken prisoner by Jez Blake (played by Jeremy Sheffield), who decided to set him free from a shed in tonight's episode. Robbie then walked through the village but couldn't be seen by others, with it then revealed that he had been a figment of Jez's imagination after he had murdered him weeks ago. Viewers have shared their surprise over the storyline and now Charlie has spoken about his departure. He told the Sun: "It's a massive shame to say goodbye to the character and not going to be able to play him anymore but to be fair, I didn't think I'd ever get a chance to play him again." The actor said that he's "very happy" that the opportunity to return presented itself. He added that he's "quite satisfied" following the "quite interesting ending," though admitted that it is "always sad" to finish a job like working on Hollyoaks. Charlie hinted that his character could return in the future, though he told the outlet that Robbie is "gone" for now. He said that his exit storyline feels "special" but said it's a "shame" to miss the show's 30th anniversary in October. Looking back on finding out about the storyline, he told Digital Spy: "Everyone was cautious, because I don't remember this ever being done before. I was excited, though, because it's something that I'd never done – and Robbie's done everything there is to do! If you're going to die on the show, it's quite an interesting way of doing it – and I'm all for doing different things." Although it feels like "the final chapter" for his character, Charlie told the outlet that other characters have "died and come back". He teased that "anything can happen," though suggested he wouldn't consider returning any time soon. Viewers discovered that Robbie had been killed by Jez in today's episode. He'd been imprisoned by the serial killer after previously being held captive by Grace Black (Tamara Wall). Jez was thought to have been hiding him in a shed. The latest episode showed Jez telling Robbie that they both deserved to get a "happy ending" with their respective partners, so he had decided to let him go. Freed, Robbie then ran to his fiancée Vicky Grant (Anya Lawrence). However, Vicky didn't respond to Robbie, who tried speaking to her, and instead walked through him. It was then revealed in a flashback that Jez had killed him weeks ago but had continued to see 'Robbie' as a vision since then. Hollyoaks airs Monday to Wednesday on E4 at 7pm and first look episodes can be streamed from 7am.

ITV The Fortune Hotel's Stephen Mangan hits back at comparisons to The Traitors
ITV's hit series The Fortune Hotel returns for a second series tonight - and host Stephen Mangan has addressed some fans' claims that the show is similar to BBC One's The Traitors ITV's gameshow The Fortune Hotel is back tonight, with a new cast of contestants hoping to take home a suitcase carrying £250,000 from the Caribbean resort. Hosted by actor Stephen Mangan, the new series is set to kick off with a major twist - as one couple is kicked off the show before they even make it to the hotel. Since premiering last year, the show has faced some comparisons to BBC One hit The Traitors - however, Stephen has insisted that the two series are very different. "I don't mind at all - The Traitors is a great show and there's plenty of room for more than one show," he told The Mirror in an exclusive chat. "I think it's clearly very different. We have those really tense sessions at the end but there's also a lot of fun in our show. It's really fun to watch. People are hilarious in it. "But I'm flattered by those comparisons. The proof of the pudding is always in whether people watch it and a lot of people watched out first series so that's the best thing really." Stephen Mangan spent a month in the Caribbean to film ITV 's The Fortune Hotel, but it wasn't all plain sailing - with the TV presenter admitting that it was 'tough' being away from his family for that long. The 57-year-old, who shares two sons with wife Louise Delamere, said: 'It was during term time so my family couldn't join hard phoning home when your wife's doing the school run in the rain in November and you're complaining about it being too hot on the beach. It doesn't go down very well.' As tensions rise and couples squabble, Stephen reveals that he struggles to watch the contestants bicker on the beach - which they do several times in the series. 'I don't like people falling out in front of me,' he says. 'I know some people go through life creating that drama but I'm not one of those people.' With the show now under his belt, Stephen admits that he now has no excuse not to do I'm A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here. 'I would like to say that I wouldn't want to go away from my family for that long to the jungle but clearly I'm doing it,' he says. While he's not too keen for the jungle, Stephen wants to bring back classic Channel 4 sitcom Green Wing after two decades. 'That would be fun to see them 20 years later,' he says. 'Comedy will always be my first love and I'll always come back to it.' The Fortune Hotel airs tonight at 9pm on ITV1.
