The top court directed the authorities to take Darshan and other accused into custody forthwith and ordered that the trial be conducted expeditiously.
"Our faith in the government, judiciary and police has increased after the Supreme Court cancelled actor Darshan's bail. We thank the government. Our aim is to see that the criminal is punished. This will give peace to my son who was murdered," Renukaswamy's father Shivanagouda told PTI.
He said the cancellation of bail "makes us believe that the law is equal to all, be it rich, mighty or poor."
The judgement came on an appeal filed by the
Karnataka government
against the state high court's December 13, 2024 order of bail to Darshan and the co-accused.

Darshan, along with actress Pavithra Gowda and several others, is accused of abducting and torturing 33-year-old Renukaswamy, a fan who allegedly sent obscene messages to Pavithra.
The police alleged the victim was held in a shed in Bengaluru for three days in June 2024, tortured and his body was recovered from a drain.
Following the court order, security at
Ballari prison
has been tightened amid indications that Darshan may be shifted there.
A high-security cell has been readied, and the compound wall, which fans had previously scaled to catch a glimpse of the actor, has been raised to 25 feet to prevent any untoward incidents, sources said.
Officials said preparations for Independence Day flag-hoisting are being carried out alongside the enhanced security measures for Darshan's possible arrival.

In his address, Pawan said India's freedom was won through immense sacrifices, and that Independence Day should be celebrated not as a ritual, but with a sense of responsibility to protect the nation. Over the next five years, the scheme will provide three free cylinders annually, costing Rs 13,427 crore. Pawan announced a sharp hike in funds for national festival celebrations in panchayats — from Rs 100 to Rs 10,000 for minor panchayats and from Rs 250 to Rs 25,000 for major panchayats — enhancing the role and dignity of sarpanches. He lauded the state's achievement of holding village assemblies simultaneously in all 13,326 panchayats, advancing the goal of 'village self-rule.' Vijayawada: Chief secretary K Vijayanand on Friday said that the state government had set a target to make the state free from single-use plastic by World Environment Day, June 5, 2026. As a first step, the ban has been enforced in the state Secretariat from Friday, and the initiative will be extended in phases to all municipal corporations, towns, and villages. He stressed the need for collective responsibility to protect natural resources for future generations. Ambedkar, the designer of the national flag Pingali Venkaiah, revolutionary leader Alluri Sitarama Raju, and all other freedom fighters, the Chief Secretary said Independence Day is an occasion to recall the sacrifices of great leaders who fought for the country's freedom. Highlighting the government's welfare agenda, he said both the Centre and the state are implementing several development and social security schemes aimed at uplifting the poor. Democracy means efficient governance, says Ayyanna
Vijayawada: Assembly Speaker Ch Ayyanna Patrudu on Friday said it is important to understand civic responsibilities, respect the democratic system, and work for the betterment of society. Participating as the chief guest in the 79th Independence Day celebrations held on the Assembly premises, the Speaker first paid floral tributes to the portrait of Mahatma Gandhi before unfurling the national flag. Extending greetings to the people on the occasion, he described August 15 as an auspicious day that fulfilled the dreams of millions by ending British colonial rule. 'The freedom we enjoy today was achieved through immense sacrifices, hunger strikes, and long imprisonments endured by countless patriots,' he said, recalling the contributions of Mahatma Gandhi, Subhash Chandra Bose, Bhagat Singh, Alluri Sitarama Raju, Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy, B.R. Ambedkar, and Pingali Venkaiah, among others. He underlined the need for today's youth to learn about the freedom struggle and draw inspiration from it. Ayyanna Patrudu noted that the essence of democracy lies not in facilities, but in efficient governance. 'Every public issue must be discussed in the Assembly, and every new policy should aim at public welfare,' he said, adding that the absence of some MLAs from Assembly sessions reflects irresponsibility.
