Naughty Dog Includes Chronological Mode To 'The Last of Us Part II', Adds 'Uncharted' Outfits
Announced via a post on the PlayStation Blog, the new update, which is out today for the PS5 and PC, re-orders the title's narrative beats into one cohesive storyline and is meant as a fresh way to experience the game for returning players. Those familiar with the game would no doubt remember that its story was told non-linearly, intertwining flashbacks and present-day events to help enhance its emotional storytelling, and now, by enabling the new option, players can witness the game's plot unfold in chronological order.
'Through the new Chronological mode, we believe players will gain even deeper insight into Part II's narrative.' wrote Naughty Dog Editorial Content Manager Jonathon Dornbush, 'Players will be able to see how Ellie being gifted a guitar flows so neatly into her learning to play, for example, while the journey through Seattle will showcase the fascinating parallels between Ellie and Abby's crisscrossing journeys. You'll see just how close they come into running into each other, how their actions impact each other, and more.'
Despite realising such a substantial shake up to the game's narrative, Naughty Dog still encourages new players to experience the game as it 'was originally developed' during their first run, explaining that its 'structure is very intentional and core to how our studio wanted Part II's themes and narrative beats to impact players'.
That's not all, as to incentivise players to engage in this new mode, beating the game with the Chronological option enabled will unlock two new skins that should be familiar to fans of Naughty Dog, a Nathan Drake outfit for Joel and a Samuel Drake outfit for Tommy, inspired by the studio's other massively popular IP, Uncharted . Once unlocked, these two outfits will be usable in the game's No Return roguelike survival mode.
The new update for The Last of Us Part II Remastered is now available for the PS5 (Patch 2.1.0) and PC (Patch 1.5), bringing the new Chronological mode alongside 'a host of additional bug fixes and performance improvements'.

Take-Two CEO Assures 'BioShock 4' Won't Be Cancelled Despite Development Woes
Things are not looking good for Take-Two's much-anticipated shooter follow-up, BioShock 4 , as the title has been plagued with troubles after reportedly being in development for over a decade, but still, the company is adamant that the game is in no danger of cancellation. Speaking to IGN, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick was quick to rebut speculation when asked if the game was in any danger of being cancelled. 'It's going to come out,' he replied. 'That I can say hand on heart, without question.' Despite this, he did admit that development isn't going smoothly, a fact that was previously made known with a recent Bloomberg report by Jason Schreier detailing a change in leadership and a narrative overhaul after the title failed a review by 2K Games executives. 'We don't talk about how long our development cycles are. We have had some ups and downs along the way. That is accurate. And we have had changes in studio leadership,' he continued. 'we have very big shoes to fill because of the legacy of Ken Levine, the legacy of what has gone before, which has been so successful.' 'And we need to make sure that this experience is true to the BioShock DNA on the one hand, and a massive step forward on the other hand. That's always challenging. We think we're up to the challenge, but it has not been seamless.' Zelnick also touched on the topic of lengthy game development cycles, and how modern titles tend to have a longer gestation period as audiences are not only expecting the product to not just be good, but rather surpass expectations. While this isn't exactly the news that fans who have been waiting for the next title want to hear, at least they can rest easy knowing that the team is taking the time to get it right. This sentiment is further echoed by a statement 2K Games issued to Bloomberg on the state of BioShock 4 , which reads: 'We are working hard to set BioShock up for the best possible future. Right now, we have a good game, but we are committed to delivering a great one. We are working closely with leadership at the studio to define this path.' James Gunn Pens Next "Super Family" Movie, As 'The Batman 2' Sets Spring 2026 Shoot
The future of DC films is slowly coming together, starting with The Batman Part II . The sequel to 2022's The Batman , which is separate from James Gunn and Peter Safran's revamped DC Universe (DCU) — formerly known as the DC Extended Universe — is set to begin shooting in Spring 2026 with a theatrical release planned for 1 October 2027. Director Matt Reeves completed the script in June, following a one-year delay from the very initial 2025 opening. While details remain under lock and key, Robert Pattinson and Zoë Kravitz will reprise their respective roles as the Caped Crusader and Catwoman in the forthcoming instalment, alongside Colin Farrell as The Penguin. 'To be fair, a 5-year gap or more is fairly common in sequels,' Gunn wrote on Threads last year on the scheduling pushback. '7 years between Alien and Aliens . 14 years between Incredibles . 7 years between the first two Terminators . 13 years between Avatars . 36 years between Top Guns . And, of course, 6 years between Guardians Vol 2 and Vol 3 .' The news comes from a letter to Warner Bros. Discovery shareholders, which also confirmed that the DC Studios co-head is writing the next entry in the Super family, Supergirl , plus Clayface and the next Wonder Woman . In terms of television projects, the 10-year vision for the DCU includes The Penguin , the upcoming new season of Peacemaker , and Lanterns , starring Kyle Chandler ( Friday Night Lights ) and Aaron Pierre ( Musfasa: The Lion King ) as Hal Jordan and John Stewart, as well as Nathan Fillion's Guy Gardner. Under Gunn's rule, no project will move into the pre-production and production processes until the screenplay is finished, as opposed to Marvel Studios' approach, where it enters production in the scripting phase. Next on the list is Supergirl , based on Tom King and Bilquis Evely's Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comic series. Led by House of the Dragon breakout star Milly Alcock, the Craig Gillespie-directed comic book adventure will introduce the titular superheroine as 'a total mess'. 'She's a total mess. I mean, I think as we learn, she's had a completely different background from Superman. A much more difficult background,' Gunn explained. 'He's had this wonderful upbringing by these two parents that loved him and were very healthy. And her background was much different than that.' The second DCU cinematic instalment is set to hit theatres on 26 June 2026, building on 2025's Superman , which is the first DC film to surpass US$300 million domestically in three years. The previous milestone was achieved by, coincidentally, The Batman , due for a sequel on 1 October 2027.
