Nintendo Switch 2 dev reveals new feature of console's mouse controls

Koei Tecmo has revealed a new detail about the Nintendo Switch 2, and it's a win for anyone excited about mouse controls.
After Nintendo's big blowout for the Switch 2 last month, there were perhaps more questions than answers around some aspects of the console.
Some of these have been answered since, like what the revamped eShop looks like, what the actual upgrades are for original Switch titles, and how those Game-Key cards exactly work, but there are still several unknowns around the hardware's functionality.
While Nintendo was perhaps holding back some of these surprises for when the Switch 2 launches worldwide on June 5, developer Koei Tecmo has let the cat out of the bag in regards to one feature – the console supports regular USB mice.
Last week, Koei Tecmo posted a deep dive on its Switch 2 port of strategy game Nobunaga's Ambition: Awakening Complete Edition, which utilises the Joy-Con controller's mouse controls.
During the video, game producer Michi Ryu demonstrated the mouse controls using the Joy-Con, which is used to move the on-screen cursor. However, later in the video, he reveals a USB mouse can be connected to the console and used in the game.
'You can also connect a USB mouse and it will work seamlessly,' Ryu said. 'Once you connect the USB mouse, a message will appear in the top left indicating that the mouse is connected. When the USB mouse is connected, it takes priority over the Joy-Con 2.'
The developer also showed off how you can 'switch instantly' between the two control options, by operating the Joy-Con and the mouse simultaneously.
'It's very smooth,' Ryu added. 'You can operate with both the controller and the mouse interchangeably. The switching speed is incredibly fast.'
USB keyboards and mice could be technically plugged into the original Switch as well, but not many Switch games supported their use. As such, considering the Switch 2 has mouse support built into the Joy-Con, this extra flexibility is a far more appealing feature.
It's unclear if every Switch 2 game with mouse functionality will support a USB mouse, but it could go a long way to making first-person shooters like Metroid Prime 4: Beyond a huge selling point for the system.
Nobunaga's Ambition: Awakening Complete Edition comes out on June 5 as part of the Switch 2's launch line-up, alongside Mario Kart World.

Why is nobody talking about the PS5 anymore? - Reader's Feature
A reader worries that Sony's strange behaviour over the last few years has seen the PS5 become sidelined and ignored compared to other formats. For years now, I've been reading people, both here and elsewhere online, asking what has happened to Sony and why they're acting the way they do now. The lack of showcases, the general lack of communication, the obsession with live service games, and the reduction in new single-player games… it's obvious to everyone and yet we've never had an explanation or an acknowledgement from Sony that anything unusual is happening. I think it's pretty obvious that we're not going to get one either. Sony are just going to carry on being weird and pretending that's what they were always like. They've been like this for well over two years now, so anyone buying a PlayStation 5 in that time will never know anything else. There is a problem though – well there's multiple, obviously – but the thing I can't help but notice at the moment is how little people talk about the PlayStation 5 anymore. The Switch 2 is eating up a lot of bandwidth right now but it's not just that. The PlayStation 5 feels played out, a disappointment and unexciting, just part of the gaming furniture and nothing more. The Switch 2 launch is coming up, but people have been talking excitedly about it for months now. A new console is obviously a rare thing, that's always going to draw attention, but the PC as a gaming format has also been a big topic for the last year or so. It's far more popular than I have ever known and now seems to be the default format for games, rather than any console. That's the position the PlayStation 5 should have but it's not really how it's turned out. You could argue even the Xbox has been more a topic of conversation recently, even if that's in a negative way. But at least people don't forget it exists. It looks like we probably won't get a PlayStation showcase this month, since they've already missed their usual May slot, and the rumours say maybe not one until September. That's ridiculous. Not only do we know virtually nothing about Ghost Of Yōtei, but there's nothing confirmed for next year yet, except Saros (had to look up that spelling). Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet and Marvel's Wolverine don't have any year confirmed yet and that's all we know about in terms of games made by Sony themselves. I'm not going to speculate on why this is happening or when it might end, because frankly I haven't got a clue, but I do know that it's having a very negative effect on PlayStation's reputation, in a way people aren't talking about enough. The PlayStation 5 just seems invisible now, something that's always there but which nobody cares about and definitely something nobody is excited about. Will this change if they announce a new game? Well, it didn't with Ghost Of Yōtei. You could say that's not really their biggest franchise, and you'd be right, but the longer Sony carries on in zombie mode the harder it is going to be to get anyone's attention. It won't be long before it needs The Last Of Us Part 3 or God Of War 3 before there's any kind of a reaction, but I don't see those games happening anytime soon. Sony is so out of touch they think fans will wait forever for whatever news they can be bothered to tell us, and then we'll be amazed and excited, but I don't think that's true anymore. 'I bought a PS5 Pro when it released - and now Sony is selling it for even less money'
Sony has launched its Days of Play sale, with consoles, controllers, and games on sale - and that includes the PS5 Pro The PS5 Pro, which was released a few months ago, didn't quite live up to Sony's expectations despite the hype. However, a rare sale might be the perfect opportunity for gamers to get their hands on the console. Sony has kicked off its Days of Play sale, offering discounts on consoles, controllers, and games, including the PS5 Pro. For a limited time, the price has been slashed to £659.99. But that's not the only bargain available for gamers. The original PS5 slim console is also on offer at £389.99, down from £479.99, if the PS5 Pro seems a bit too pricey, reports the Express. There are other deals to be had as well, such as the Dualsense Edge Wireless controller and the PS VR2 with Horizon: Call of the Mountain for £354.99 , reduced from £399. Gamers can find a host of fantastic discounts here. Sony is even allowing customers to trade in their old consoles, so shoppers have an old PS4 or PS5, they could get the new console for even less. Sony also operates a refurbished console shop here, where gamers can snag a great deal. There are plenty of alternatives to consider. The Nintendo Switch 2 is on the horizon for shoppers wanting a new console, and Nintendo is selling it right here. Amazon is also selling the Nintendo Switch OLED for £240 if the newest console isn't in the budget. When the PS5 Pro was first released, I had the opportunity to review it, and despite its hefty price tag, we were quite impressed. One of the games we tested was Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, which, to be frank, looked absolutely dreadful when I first played it. It had a peculiar blur that made me feel as if my spectacles weren't strong enough. However, the PS5 Pro has completely transformed how this game appears. Instead of a slick blur in the distance, there's now an option that allows you to output an upscaled 4K resolution with 60fps, whereas the standard console only allowed 4K 30 or a lower resolution at 60fps. The PS5 eliminates that, and the game looks fantastic. Background textures and imagery look stunning, but Final Fantasy isn't the only game that looks great. Horizon Forbidden Wes t also received some impressive upgrades. Compared to the inconsistent FPS drops I experienced with the original PS5, FPS drops are now non-existent, and the image quality 'pops' far more than it did on the old console. It feels much closer to games on my high-end PC rather than playing older console – one of my biggest gripes with the original PS5. But the big question is: Should shoppers fork out close to £659 for the PS5 Pro? Well, I believe 80 per cent of people still probably don't need the console, and unless gamers require the best possible frame rates and resolution, most people don't need it.
