'I bought a PS5 Pro when it released - and now Sony is selling it for even less money'

Daily Record01-06-2025
Sony has launched its Days of Play sale, with consoles, controllers, and games on sale - and that includes the PS5 Pro
The PS5 Pro, which was released a few months ago, didn't quite live up to Sony's expectations despite the hype. However, a rare sale might be the perfect opportunity for gamers to get their hands on the console.
Sony has kicked off its Days of Play sale, offering discounts on consoles, controllers, and games, including the PS5 Pro. For a limited time, the price has been slashed to £659.99.
But that's not the only bargain available for gamers. The original PS5 slim console is also on offer at £389.99, down from £479.99, if the PS5 Pro seems a bit too pricey, reports the Express.
There are other deals to be had as well, such as the Dualsense Edge Wireless controller and the PS VR2 with Horizon: Call of the Mountain for £354.99 , reduced from £399. Gamers can find a host of fantastic discounts here.
Sony is even allowing customers to trade in their old consoles, so shoppers have an old PS4 or PS5, they could get the new console for even less. Sony also operates a refurbished console shop here, where gamers can snag a great deal.
There are plenty of alternatives to consider. The Nintendo Switch 2 is on the horizon for shoppers wanting a new console, and Nintendo is selling it right here. Amazon is also selling the Nintendo Switch OLED for £240 if the newest console isn't in the budget.
When the PS5 Pro was first released, I had the opportunity to review it, and despite its hefty price tag, we were quite impressed. One of the games we tested was Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, which, to be frank, looked absolutely dreadful when I first played it. It had a peculiar blur that made me feel as if my spectacles weren't strong enough.
However, the PS5 Pro has completely transformed how this game appears. Instead of a slick blur in the distance, there's now an option that allows you to output an upscaled 4K resolution with 60fps, whereas the standard console only allowed 4K 30 or a lower resolution at 60fps.
The PS5 eliminates that, and the game looks fantastic. Background textures and imagery look stunning, but Final Fantasy isn't the only game that looks great.
Horizon Forbidden Wes t also received some impressive upgrades. Compared to the inconsistent FPS drops I experienced with the original PS5, FPS drops are now non-existent, and the image quality 'pops' far more than it did on the old console.
It feels much closer to games on my high-end PC rather than playing older console – one of my biggest gripes with the original PS5. But the big question is: Should shoppers fork out close to £659 for the PS5 Pro?
Well, I believe 80 per cent of people still probably don't need the console, and unless gamers require the best possible frame rates and resolution, most people don't need it.

Super Mario Bros. 40th anniversary leaks are fake but what is Nintendo planning?

Anticipation around the 40th anniversary of Super Mario Bros. has led to some questionable leaks around about a new collection, but it's unclear if any of it is real. Nintendo has a track record of unexpected celebrations for its core characters (hello, Year Of Luigi), but the inexplicably loud fanfare around the 35th anniversary of Super Mario Bros. is one of the more peculiar in recent memory. For the title's 35th birthday, which is hardly a major milestone, Nintendo released Super Mario 3D All-Stars, Super Mario Bros. 35, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, special Lego sets, a limited edition Game & Watch handheld, and a whole line of 35th anniversary apparel. This was likely because it was in the middle of the Covid pandemic, and Nintendo literally had nothing else to promote, but it makes it very hard to predict what Nintendo will do about the more significant 40th anniversary on September 13. Earlier this week, several posts on Reddit appeared to out one part of Nintendo's plans. One post showed alleged images of a New Super Mario Bros. Collection, containing 2006's New Super Mario Bros, New Super Mario Bros. Wii, and 2012's New Super Mario Bros. 2. This same rumour was seemingly corroborated by an alleged leaker named John Skinny on Reddit (via MyNintendoNews), who claimed they had received information on the same collection via internal scheduling docs and localisation assets via a contractor Q&A team. However, while believable on the surface, the rumour starts to fall apart once you dig into the details. Many have pointed out how the barcode on the 'leaked' box art is the same as 2012's Super Mario Bros. U. Likewise, Skinny claimed they played a 'new Zelda game' during a Switch 2 demo event last year – something we've never heard about since. This appears to rule out this rumour, but it still leaves the question of what (if anything) Nintendo is planning for the 40th anniversary. There's been rumbles of a potential secret Christmas game for the Switch 2 but while that's very unlikely to be a new big budget title, a remaster compilation is much more plausible. More Trending There are some other, smaller announcements which also seem likely. We already know Super Mario Sunshine is coming to Nintendo Switch Online at some point, so the timing of that could line up with the 40th celebrations in September. The limited time multiplayer battle royale title, Super Mario Bros. 35, could be rebranded for the 40th anniversary and re-released on Nintendo Switch Online. There might even be some kind of update for Mario Kart World, angled around retro cosmetics. Nintendo hasn't announced any plans for the 40th anniversary but, after its huge celebration for the 35th, it would be weird if it does go by without any fanfare. Although, of course, weird is Nintendo's stock in trade… Email gamecentral@ leave a comment below, follow us on Twitter. Butterfly's release date, cast and plot: Everything we know about Prime Video's new spy thriller

Prime Video will be adding another high-octane action thriller to its library this month with the premiere of Butterfly, starring Daniel Dae Kim and Reina Hardesty Prime Video subscribers are in for a treat this month with another gripping thriller on the horizon. ‌ The high-octane drama Butterfly, inspired by Arash Amel's popular graphic novel series, promises a relentless game of cat and mouse set against the backdrop of South Korea. ‌ Lost star Daniel Dae Kim takes on the role of David Jung, a volatile ex-US agent whose life spirals out of control when his past catches up with him. ‌ Following the success of thrillers like Reacher season three and the feature film Heads of State earlier this year, numerous subscribers are eagerly awaiting the platform's latest addition. With that said, let's delve into everything we know about Butterfly ahead of its premiere next week, reports the Express. ‌ When is Butterfly being released? Butterfly's release is just around the corner, with the series set to debut next Wednesday, 13th August on Prime Video. Even better, all six episodes will be available at once, eliminating the need for fans to wait weekly for new instalments. ‌ Who stars in Butterfly? Butterfly boasts an impressive cast led by the aforementioned Daniel Dae Kim as David Jung. Kim is best known for his portrayal of Jin-Soo Kwon in all six seasons of the hit mystery thriller Lost. His other notable roles include The Good Doctor, which was produced by his company 3AD, and films such as Always Be My Maybe, Joy Ride and KPop Demon Hunters. Joining the fray is Reina Hardesty as a young agent named Rebecca, tasked with the mission to locate Jung. Hardesty has made a mark with her performances in The Secret Art of Human Flight and It's What's Inside. ‌ The ensemble cast features Piper Perabo (Yellowstone), Louis Landau (Rivals), Kim Ji-hoon, Park Hae-soo, Kim Tae-hee, Charles Parnell, Sean Dulake, and Nayoon Kim, adding depth to the narrative. Is there a trailer for Butterfly? The first glimpse of Butterfly was unveiled three weeks ago with a gripping trailer, teasing audiences with the line "Second chances don't come twice". ‌ The trailer gives away that Rebecca is actually Jung's daughter, honed by the espionage organisation Caddis to become their deadliest weapon. As the story unfolds, father and daughter find themselves on the lam, dodging lethal adversaries amidst heart-stopping gun battles and hand-to-hand skirmishes. Perabo appears to take on the role of the syndicate's leader, determined to capture the defectors at any cost. ‌ The action-packed preview culminates with an intense motorcycle pursuit, Jung and Rebecca making a daring descent down a high-rise, and a dramatic escape from a fiery blast they've orchestrated. What's the plot of Butterfly? While specific details of the plot remain shrouded in secrecy ahead of its debut, a brief synopsis offers a tantalising hint of what's in store. The synopsis teases: "David Jung, an enigmatic, highly unpredictable former US intelligence operative living in South Korea, whose life is blown to pieces when the consequences of an impossible decision from his past come back to haunt him, and he finds himself pursued by Rebecca, a deadly, sociopathic young agent assigned to kill him."
