DOJ, PNP discuss Witness Protection Program for missing sabungero suspect —Remulla
According to Darlene Cay's Monday report on '24 Oras,' the DOJ and PNP's meeting came after Totoy expressed willingness to testify in court, adding that his life and his family's lives are being threatened.
'Basta, we're processing the information first, pero may arrangement na kami ni PNP Chief Torre,' DOJ Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla said.

He added that the DOJ has evidence that can support Totoy's statements, but did not go into the details.

He added that 10 suspects revealed by Totoy are also being investigated.
However, Totoy has yet to submit a formal affidavit.
The DOJ also denied allegations from the families of the missing sabungeros that the government has abandoned them.
'No such thing. Talagang hindi kami nag gi-give eh. We have not given up on anything or anybody. Ganun lang talaga, mabagal minsan ang kaso. Ito po ay proseso. Kinakailangan may ebidensya na makakalap at ginagawa ho namin ang lahat,' Remulla said.
'Kagaya nga niyan, sabi ko nga, nakausap ko na siya bago pa dumating yung election at na-process na namin yung information,' he added.

Banac named to PNP's second top post
Area Police Command (APC) Western Mindanao head Police Lieutenant General Bernard Banac has been named the Philippine National Police's deputy chief for administration, making him the second highest-ranking police official behind PNP chief Police General Nicolas Torre III. File photo A friend of missing beauty queen Catherine Camilon has withdrawn as witness due to security concerns, according to the Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday. 'We received information na medyo apprehensive na yung kaibigan ng nawawala na si Ms. Camilon because natakot siya para sa security and safety niya,' PNP spokesperson Police Brigadier General Jean Fajardo said in an ambush interview. (We received information that the friend of the missing Ms. Camilon is a bit apprehensive and are afraid for their security and safety.) Fajardo said the PNP vows protection for Camilon's friend. 'Huwag siya magdalawang-isip dahil ang intensyon naman natin ay bigyan ng hustisya itong pagkawala ng kanyang kaibigan kasi critical yung kanyang magiging participation sa kaso na ito,' Fajardo said. De Castro was alleged to be in a relationship with the former beauty queen before her reported disappearance, while Magpantay served as his driver-bodyguard. The ex-cop was reportedly supposed to meet Camilon on the day of her disappearance, which he denied. Camilon's car was last seen going through some towns in Batangas via CCTV footage on October 12, 2023. Witnesses later claimed that they saw a bloodied Camilon being transferred to a different vehicle on the same day, while Magpantay was in the area. 2 kidnap victims rescued, 4 Chinese nabbed in Parañaque ops
Two kidnapping victims were rescued while four Chinese nationals who allegedly abducted them were arrested in an operation in Parañaque City on Saturday, according to the Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday. 'Apat na Chinese nationals ang ating naaresto na naman ng Anti-Kidnapping Group (AKG) na sangkot sa kasong kidnapping na naganap sa isang kilalang resort sa Paranaque City,' PNP chief Police General Nicolas Torre III said in a press briefing. The kidnapping happened after a 30-year-old Chinese national asked for assistance from the suspects for the foreign currency exchange and transfer of P150,000 to China. The victim initially released P100,000. Torre said the suspects convinced the victim to go with them to a resort casino to finalize the transaction but it led to a kidnapping. The suspects were allegedly forcing the victim to transfer an amount of 50,000 USDT from his cryptocurrency wallet. According to Torre, the victim asked the suspects for his phone to contact his family. The victim secretly reached out to another Chinese national who sought help from the local police through a 911 call.
