Egypt to inaugurate Grand Egyptian Museum on November 1
Speaking at the start of the weekly Cabinet meeting, held at its headquarters in the New Administrative Capital, Madbouly instructed all relevant ministries and authorities to finalise preparations to ensure the museum and its surrounding area are fully ready. He stressed that the opening must be presented in a manner befitting its cultural and historical significance.
The premier said preparations are underway to make the event exceptional, adding another milestone to Egypt's record of landmark national occasions. The inauguration is expected to draw distinguished international guests and feature a series of accompanying cultural events.
Located near the Giza Pyramids, the GEM will be the largest archaeological museum in the world, spanning 490,000 square metres with panoramic pyramid views. Designed by Irish firm Heneghan Peng Architects, it will display over 100,000 artefacts from Egypt's ancient history—including the complete Tutankhamun collection, exhibited together for the first time since its discovery in 1922—alongside monumental treasures such as the 3,200-year-old statue of Ramses II.
The museum also features advanced conservation laboratories, expansive exhibition halls, educational facilities, and visitor amenities. It is envisioned as a global cultural landmark that will boost Egypt's tourism industry, complement the Giza Plateau, and position the country as a premier hub for archaeology and heritage preservation.
During the meeting, Madbouly also reviewed recent presidential activities, including President Al-Sisi's reception of Vietnamese President Luong Cuong on Tuesday. The two leaders agreed to elevate bilateral relations to a comprehensive partnership, with enhanced cooperation in agriculture, manufacturing, trade, and investment, supported by both governments and the private sector.
In a separate matter, following the ratification of amendments to the Old Rent Law, Madbouly instructed the concerned ministers to begin immediate implementation of the law's provisions. He affirmed the state's commitment to supporting tenants, providing alternative housing, and personally monitoring the matter on a regular basis.

Algeria on Sunday called Israel the 'enemy of humanity' and urged the UN to impose sanctions on it. The comments came during a special session of the UN Security Council that was called by the UK, France and Denmark in response to Israel's Cabinet approving new military operations in Gaza that include the takeover of Gaza city. 'The council must act decisively, resolutely, by resorting to its utmost tools to act under Chapter Seven of the [UN] Charter,' Algerian ambassador to the UN Amar Bendjama told the council. 'The hour has come to impose sanctions on the hand that steals the land on the flag that flaps over the ruin. The hour has come to impose sanctions on the enemy of humanity.' Mr Bendjama condemned Israel's new military plans and said that ' Gaza is facing hell '. Israel's security cabinet on Friday approved Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu 's plans to control Gaza city in the north and displace half the population to the south. Israel already controls about 75 per cent of the strip, and many of the enclave's more than two million people have been displaced several times since the war began in October 2023. Widespread hunger has been reported amid an continuing aid blockade initiated by Israel, which has accused Hamas of looting and hoarding assistance. 'Hunger-related deaths are rising, especially among children with severe malnutrition since the escalation of hostilities,' said Ramesh Rajasingham, head and representative of OCHA in Geneva and director of the Co-ordination Division, highlighting the deaths of nearly 100 children from severe acute malnutrition. Kuwait 's UN representative Tareq Al Banai, delivering the statement of the Gulf Co-operation Council countries, said that the new military operation 'lays the groundwork for a new stage of genocide and forced discipline and under undermines any chance of achieving a two-state solution'. But the US pushed back on concerns over the new Israel military operation, accusing member states of rewarding Hamas's refusal to agree to a ceasefire by handing it propaganda victories and pledging to support a Palestinian state. 'The simple truth is that this war could end today if Hamas let the hostages and all of Gaza go free,' US acting ambassador to the UN Dorothy Shea said, adding that the UN has helped to spread lies about Israel, the Washington-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation and the US. 'Israel did not decision to advance its military campaign in a vacuum, but after months of Hamas's intransigence … The loss of civilian life in Gaza is tragic, but the responsibility for this rest with Hamas.' Israel's ambassador said that his country has 'no plans or desire' to permanently occupy Gaza, and intends to relocate civilians away from the influence of Hamas. Al Dahra and MOPCO launch first river shipment of fertilizers to support agricultural projects in Toshka
Cairo: Al Dahra Agriculture — one of the largest investors in the sustainable agriculture sector — announces the successful completion of the first river shipment of 750 tons of packed urea fertilizer. This operation was carried out in cooperation with Misr Fertilizers Production Company (MOPCO). The fertilizer shipment departed from Damietta Port aboard the river unit "Nile 5," operated by the National Nile Company for River Transportation, heading toward Al-Aqab area in Aswan and then on to Toshka. Nile 5 will then return to Alexandria with produce bound for export, thus completing its round trip. This initiative supports the directive of the Ministry of Transport to activate multimodal transport and promote the Nile as a safe, efficient, and low-cost logistics corridor, supporting farmers and meeting local market demand. This achievement, delivered in cooperation with the Damietta Port Authority and MOPCO, exemplifies the unique cooperation among the port authority, MOPCO, and Al Dahra. Al Dahra Agriculture holds significant investments in the area, owning approximately 37,000 feddans as well as additional farms in East Al-Owainat. For his part, Eng. South Africa: Presidency statement on National Dialogue costs
The Presidency has noted media reports on the cost of the National Dialogue and specifically the first National Convention set to take place on 15-16 August 2025. The Presidency wishes to confirm that all budgetary processes regarding the National Convention are consistent with the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA). The Inter-Ministerial Committee, which is chaired by Deputy President Paul Mashatile and comprises all relevant government departments to coordinate government's contribution towards the National Dialogue, has been working to mobilise resources for the convention and manage costs. As a response to the call for collaboration with other stakeholders to reduce the costs of the National Dialogue, UNISA has offered to host the first National Convention and provide associated goods and services free of charge. As it stands, venues have been secured for the plenary, two overflow venues with livestreaming, 10 breakaway venues, dining area and work areas. In addition, UNISA is providing facilities for an Operations Centre, which has been running over the past week, catering, ushers, AV services, printing of discussion documents, signage, conference bags, notepads, pens and WiFi. The costs of the first convention are being funded from the existing budgets of NEDLAC and the Presidency for secretariat support, communications and logistics. The provisions in the Appropriation Act and the PFMA will be used to reimburse the Department of Employment and Labour and NEDLAC in the Adjustments Budget later this year. All procurement and management of public funds will adhere to the PFMA and applicable Treasury Regulations. All funds will be accounted for through the normal public finance mechanisms. Donations have been received for the National Dialogue digital platform. Some goods and services, such as the venue, screens for public viewing, and rail and road transport, are being provided at no cost. The reduced costs associated with the hosting of the National Dialogue and the funding plan are done with the intention to reduce the cost to the fiscus. The Presidency is committed to supporting the first National Convention to kick-start the citizen-led and inclusive National Dialogue. The total budget for the National Dialogue will be developed as the structure and form of the community dialogues are finalised by the Convention, and will depend on in-kind contributions, donations and other resources that can be mobilised.
