Michael Soroka leads combined two-hitter as Nats beat Rangers
June 7 - Michael Soroka threw six scoreless innings and Alex Call homered to propel the Washington Nationals to a 2-0 victory over the visiting Texas Rangers on Friday.
Soroka (3-3) allowed just two hits while striking out seven and walking one for the Nationals, who had dropped three of four games prior to the series opener.
The Washington bullpen kept Texas hitless for the final three innings. Closer Kyle Finnegan retired the first two Rangers he faced in the ninth before Marcus Semien reached on CJ Abrams' fielding error. Finnegan got Jake Burger to pop out to end the game, securing his 18th save of the season.
Patrick Corbin (3-5) -- a former Nationals pitcher -- threw an eight-inning complete game, allowing two earned runs on five hits, striking out two and walking none. Adolis Garcia and Josh Smith each tallied a hit for the Rangers, who dropped their fourth straight game.
Washington struck first in the bottom of the second as Nathaniel Lowe and Call began the inning with singles before Robert Hassell III drove in the game's first run with a groundout.
Garcia's two-out single in the top of the fifth marked the Rangers' first hit and only their second baserunner after Kyle Higashioka was hit by a pitch in the third.
Corbin cruised through the bottom of the fifth with a five-pitch inning.
Smith laced a one-out single in the sixth while Corey Seager worked a two-out walk, but Soroka escaped the jam by inducing Semien's flyout.
Brad Lord relieved Soroka in the seventh, retiring Burger and Evan Carter on two pitches before getting Garcia to pop out to end the inning. Jose Ferrer added a perfect eighth.
Call doubled Washington's lead in the seventh with a 407-foot solo shot -- his first of the year.

Tampa Bay matched a season high with five homers, highlighted by Christopher Morel's power surge in which he launched a three-run blast in the second and a solo shot in the sixth. Taylor Walls belted a homer and drove in three runs, Danny Jansen added a two-run shot and Brandon Lowe had a solo homer for the Rays, who saw their four-game winning streak come to a halt. Miami erupted for six runs in the fifth to take a 10-6 lead before Tampa Bay responded with three runs in the sixth and another in the seventh to forge a tie. Morel capped his two-homer performance by launching a fly ball that sailed just inside the left field foul pole in the sixth. Walls added a two-run shot to right-center field in the sixth and Lowe leveled the contest with his blast to center field in the seventh. Morel's three-run homer and Walls' RBI double staked Tampa Bay to an early 4-0 lead. Edwards' double drove in a run and Sanchez's fifth homer of the season knotted the contest in the third. Jansen's blast to left field regained the advantage for the Rays before the Marlins countered with a big inning in the fifth. Edwards had an RBI single to drive starter Taj Bradley from the game, and Sanchez greeted Mason Montgomery with a double that drove in a pair. Astros score twice in 10th to beat Guardians
June 7 - The Houston Astros scored two runs in the 10th inning on Hunter Gaddis' wild pitch and a RBI single by Isaac Paredes to defeat the host Cleveland Guardians 5-3 on Saturday. The Astros took their second straight in the three-game weekend series and got a home run from Yainer Diaz. Jose Ramirez homered for the Guardians, who have dropped four of their last five. Josh Hader (2-0) pitched a scoreless ninth inning to get the win and Bennett Sousa worked the 10th for his first save of the season and second of his career. Gaddis (0-1) took the loss. Ramirez' two-run homer in the seventh tied the game at 3. He lined Shawn Dubin's 3-1 changeup down the right-field line and just over the fence for Ramirez's 12th home run. He also stretched his career-high, on-base streak to 33 games. Astros' starter Hunter Brown allowed a run and four hits in 5 1/3 innings, walking a season-high five and striking out nine. He gave up Gabriel Arias' RBI single in the sixth and left with the bases loaded and one out with Houston leading 3-1. Lefthander Steven Okert came in and struck out pinch hitter David Fry and Will Wilson to end the inning. Cleveland starter Gavin Williams gave up three runs on five hits in six innings with two walks and five strikeouts. Jeremy Pena's two-out infield single in the fifth gave the Astros a 1-0 lead. It came after Williams struck out Mauricio Dubon and Brendan Rodgers with runners on second and third. Diaz' two-run homer with two outs in the sixth made it 3-0. He lofted Williams' 3-2 back-up slider down the left-field line and into the stands for Diaz's eighth home run. It scored Victor Caratini, who had walked with two out, ahead of Diaz. Brown and Williams each allowed only one hit through the first four innings.
