When you think of the richest actresses in India, names like
Deepika Padukone
,
Priyanka Chopra
, and
Alia Bhatt
might pop into your mind. But guess what? None of them hold the top spot. That title goes to
Juhi Chawla
, a 90s superstar who hasn't had a major release in the last two years, yet her massive wealth has kept her in the headlines.
In an industry where box office numbers often define success, Juhi Chawla has rewritten the rules. According to the Hurun Rich List 2024, Juhi's jaw-dropping net worth of Rs. 4,600 crore makes her the
richest actress in India
. And no, it's not just because of acting – it's her clever investments and business ventures that have made her a financial powerhouse.
A star who shone brightly in the 90s
Juhi Chawla began her Bollywood journey in 1986 with a brief role in the film 'Sultanat'. However, it was her breakout role in 'Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak' (1988), opposite Aamir Khan, that catapulted her to fame and earned her the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut. From there, Juhi went on to charm audiences with a string of memorable performances in films like 'Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke' (1993), 'Darr' (1993), 'Yes Boss' (1997), 'Ishq' (1997), 'Bol Radha Bol' (1992), 'Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman' (1992), and 'Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani' (2000). Her on-screen presence, comic timing, and versatility made her one of the most loved actresses of her time.
The secret behind her wealth? Smart investments!
Unlike many stars who rely solely on film earnings, Juhi's real success lies in her smart business decisions. One of her biggest money-makers is her co-ownership of the
IPL
team
Kolkata Knight Riders
(KKR), alongside
Shah Rukh Khan
and her husband, Jay Mehta. The team was bought in 2008 for Rs. 623 crore (around $75 million), and today, as per Forbes, KKR is valued at a staggering Rs. 9,139 crore ($1.1 billion). As reported by TrendLyne , she also holds a 0.07% stake in Saurashtra Cement Ltd, which is part of the Mehta Group owned by her husband. She's also ventured into hospitality with her husband. The couple owns two upscale restaurants in Mumbai. From cricket, cement to fine dining – Juhi has smartly diversified her sources of income.
A life of luxury
Juhi Chawla's successful investments have translated into a lavish lifestyle. As reported by Live Mint, she and her family live in a sprawling home in Malabar Hill, one of Mumbai's most elite neighbourhoods. The multi-level house boasts stunning interiors and top-class amenities. They also own a charming ancestral bungalow in Porbandar, Gujarat – a nod to her roots and a place filled with family memories.
Her love for luxury extends to her garage as well. Juhi owns a stunning collection of high-end cars, including an Aston Martin Rapide (Rs. 3.3 crore), BMW 7-Series (Rs. 1.8 crore), Mercedes-Benz S-Class (Rs. 1.7 crore), Jaguar XJ (Rs. 1.2 crore), and Porsche Cayenne (Rs. 1.36–2 crore).
On the work front, Juhu was last seen in the OTT film 'Friday Night Plan' and the web series 'The Railway Men' in 2023.

Thug Life Box Office Collections: Kamal Haasan starrer is Dead on Arrival with a poor first day

Thug Life is a dead-on-arrival at the box office, with the film taking a below par opening and then followed it with poor initial audience reception. The Kamal Hassan starrer grossed a mere Rs. 17 crore approx on its first day at the Indian box office. The film had underwhelming advances, but even they were better than what it has finally ended up with, due to negligible walkup business during the day. Tamil Nadu made up for most of the first day collection with Rs. 13 crore. From advances, it was expected to collect around Rs. 15-16 crore, but it fell significantly short of that. The first day of business in the state is similar to Indian 2. While that film had some numbers outside Tamil Nadu while this has nothing to show for. The film missed out on a Karnataka release due to the controversy surrounding recent remarks made by Kamal Haasan, but even where it was released, it was a non-starter. Thug Life marks the second major disappointment for Kamal Hassan after Indian 2, third considering Indian 3 is already written off. The legendary actor made a comeback to the forefront of the Tamil box office same week three years ago, with a mega blockbuster Vikram. On paper, his follow-up lineup to Vikram looked highly promising, but it has failed spectacularly. Despite the dismal theatrical performance, the producers of Thug Life are insulated from financial loss, as they fetched handsome prices for the non-theatrical rights. The losses will be with those who paid those prices, as they are certainly not going to recover them, and with the exhibition sector, missing action during the peak summer period. The First Day Box Office Collections of Thug Life are as follows:
