BBC News2 days ago
Taylor Swift has announced her twelfth studio album titled The Life of a Showgirl, after an intense 24 hours of speculation from fans. Rumours began on Monday morning, when the singer's marketing team posted a carousel of 12 photos with the caption "Thinking about when she said 'See you next era…" In the hours that followed, her boyfriend Travis Kelce confirmed that she would be a guest on his podcast New Heights and Swift's official website began a countdown to 00:12 ET (05:12 BST).The popstar's most recent album The Tortured Poets Department, released last year, broke the Spotify record for most-streams in a day.
After years of headlines during her record-breaking Eras tour, Swift appeared to have a relatively quiet start to 2025. In May this year, it was announced that she had bought back the rights to her first six albums, ending a long-running and highly publicised battle over the ownership of her music. After her original masters sold, she vowed to re-record all six albums, which became known as "Taylor's Versions". To date, she has re-released four of the original six.Swift announced her purchase of her original masters with a heartfelt letter to fans, where she wrote that the final two albums would "have their moments to re-emerge when the time is right."
The singer wrapped up the Eras tour in December 2024, after playing 149 shows in 53 cities. In the UK alone, she played to almost 1.2 million people, including eight nights at Wembley Stadium. The tour generated an estimated £1bn for the country's economy.

'The hardest-working star in pop' The album follows last year's The Tortured Poets Department, which was released during the Eras tour. That tour, with shows on five continents and in 51 cities, raked in more than $2.2bn (£1.62bn) and was the highest-grossing tour of all time. "This album is about what was going on behind the scenes in my inner life during this tour, which was so exuberant and electric and vibrant," Swift said during her podcast appearance. Sky News said after her globe-trotting tour and a swathe of re-releases over recent years, the new album cemented Swift's reputation "as the hardest-working star in pop".

Wife of ex Maroon 5 bassist Mickey Madden files for divorce after accusing him of abuse and sexting teens

Kate Bowman, the wife of former Maroon 5 bassist Mickey Madden, has filed for divorce form the musician, two weeks after accusing him of abuse and sexting teenagers. The fashion influencer filed for divorce on Wednesday after just three months of marriage, according to TMZ. She listed 'irreconcilable differences' as the reason for their split, but did not provide a date of separation. Bowman — who was seen in Los Angeles earlier this month following her shocking allegations — is requesting spousal support, while also asking the court to prevent her ex, 46, from receiving any. As the couple has no children, there are no child custody or support issues to address. It's unclear if the couple, who have been together for over four years before tying the knot on May 6, have a prenup. It comes two weeks after Bowman accused him of physically attacking her, after she confronted him about sending inappropriate text messages to teenagers. 'He physically abused me,' Bowman said in court documents filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, in regard to a series of events which unfolded on July 21. 'I'm now terrified of him.' Bowman said the bass player went 'insane' after she asked him about the alleged messages with the teenage girls - which allegedly centered around a rape fantasy. Bowman told the court that he grabbed her arms and slammed her body against a kitchen counter. 'He pulled me to the ground and was out of his mind,' Bowman told the court in her filing. Bowman described her efforts to flee the dangerous situation in her court filing. 'I managed to move around and escape him, got up, and ran out of the house to escape him,' she said. She continued: 'He ran after me in his underwear and barefoot, caught up to me, shoved me against the gate, and then tried to grab me back to the house.' Bowman said that she 'managed to escape and ran to the street' but Madden 'found [her] twice in different locations, physically abusing me each time.' Bowman included screengrabs in her filing from ring camera footage to support her claims. Bowman tried to retrieve Madden's phone, and says she wound up leaving the home afraid for her life. Bowman was able to rummage through the contents of the phone after she ran down the street and hid between cars after escaping the enraged musician's clutches, she said in court documents. Bowman told the court that Madden had never shown that level of outrage prior to their marriage. She was pointed out to the text-related allegations against Madden by a stranger, she said in the court filing. She told the court that she subsequently moved out of the home and has been residing with a friend in the wake of the conflict. Bowman told the court that Madden told her he was sorry via text message, and that he was planning on seeking help for sex addiction. She said she was concerned about Madden's potential mercurial reaction when he sees that she used a credit card of theirs to hire a lawyer in the wake of the July 21 incident. Bowman has asked for a restraining order preventing Madden from approaching within 100 yards of her person, place of business, residence or vehicle. She said that Madden has exerted monetary control over her for the duration of their four-year-plus relationship. Bowman said she has since started working a job, and is concerned that Madden will try to track her down at her work. She added that she's put a deposit down for an apartment where she will reside. Bowman is asking for expenses, in addition to custody of a pair of Siberian Husky dogs they own named Jam and Toast. A Los Angeles Superior Court judge granted Bowman a temporary restraining order in connection with the domestic violence allegations, but a request for Madden to vacate their home was not granted, pending a future hearing on the matter. Madden was the bass player for Maroon 5 - whose hits include moves like Makes Me Wonder, Moves Like Jagger and She Will Be Loved - for nearly 26 years, but departed the band in 2020. He stepped away from Maroon 5 in July of 2020 after he was arrested in connection with domestic violence 'I have some things that I need to deal with and address right now and so I have decided to take a leave of absence,' Madden said in a statement at the time. 'During this time, I do not want to be a distraction to my bandmates. I wish them the absolute best.'

Taylor Swift shares emotional health update on dad Scott after major heart surgery

Taylor Swift has shared a major health update on her dad Scott, after he underwent a quintuple bypass procedure earlier this Summer Following months of eager anticipation, Taylor Swift fans were treated to a surprise on Wednesday night, when the pop superstar herself officially revealed all the details of her latest album The Life of a Showgirl, during her appearance with boyfriend Travis Kelce on the New Heights podcast. ‌ Whilst the stunning twelve-track lineup and album artwork dominated discussions throughout the evening, the two-hour podcast was also filled with touching revelations about the singer's personal life, including the emotional moment she reclaimed ownership of her master recordings - and the enduring impact of the Eras tour. ‌ However, woven amongst the emotional whirlwind of revelations, came a significant health update regarding Taylor's father Scott, who underwent life-saving surgery after doctors discovered he had a serious heart condition requiring immediate treatment. ‌ "He is doing incredibly well," Taylor informed podcast host Jason Kelce when he asked about her dad. "My dad had an interesting Summer. He recently had a quintuple bypass surgery and that's a really intense surgery. It all happened really quick. "He's had a healthy, perfect, EKG every year he's gone in to get his physicals - but what found his five heart blockages was a resting stress test. So he's been telling all his friends, 'You need to get this stress test' because that's what's actually preventative. If you can find that earlier, you don't actually have to have a bypass surgery, you can sort out those blockages with stents and things that are a lot less invasive.", reports the Express. Taylor subsequently disclosed the seriousness of her father's health situation, explaining that he was scheduled for surgery just a day after discovering his heart blockages. However, in typical fatherly fashion, he didn't want his family to worry or rush to his side. Despite this, Taylor ignored his wishes and hurried to his bedside to assist him during his recovery. This included some tough love when she had to take away his phone after he spent the entire night FaceTiming friends instead of resting after surgery! Determined not to leave him alone in case he needed anything, both Taylor and Travis moved in with him for the summer. With additional support from her mother and brother, they were able to help Scott make significant progress in his recovery.
