Fire tears through homeless encampment, spreads to vegetation near Victorville
A fire engulfed multiple RVs and outbuildings at a homeless encampment just outside of Victorville on Saturday afternoon, then began spreading into nearby vegetation, officials said. The fire, which officials dubbed the Mesa Fire, was first reported about 12:50 p.m. in the area of Lindero Road and Pueblo Trail Road, along the border between Victorville and Phelan, Cal Fire officials said. Firefighters arrived to find multiple RVS and outbuildings engulfed in flames, according to initial reports from the scene. Cal Fire requested assistance from the San Bernardino County Fire Department to extinguish the burning structures and vehicles. Firefighting aircraft were also summoned as the flames began spreading into nearby vegetation. The flames had scorched about half an acre of brush by 1:20 p.m., and the fire was oberved "spotting" ahead of itself, Cal Fire reported. Firefighting efforts continue as large Newfoundland wildfire burns out of control
ST. JOHN'S — A large wildfire on Newfoundland's Avalon Peninsula has destroyed nine homes in the small town of Small Point-Adam's Cove-Blackhead-Broad Cove. In a social media post late Friday, the town confirmed the homes had been lost and it said local officials were in the process of contacting the property owners. The town, one of eight communities under evacuation orders, says the Kingston wildfire is expected to increase today due to elevated winds, high temperatures and lower humidity. RCMP confirmed Friday they are investigating the cause of the fire burning near the town and are seeking surveillance footage from residents on the west side of Conception Bay. The Kingston wildfire, burning out of control on the western shore of Conception Bay, is currently about 28 square kilometres in size, according to the province's online active wildfire dashboard. Firefighting efforts in the province are expected to get a boost this weekend with the arrival of four water bombers and 60 firefighters from Quebec. Canyon Fire: Evacuation Orders Lifted After ‘Minimal' Overnight Activity

Earlier evacuation orders in seven zones in Los Angeles County—including the neighborhoods of Val Verde, Halsey Canyon and Castaic—were downgraded to evacuation warnings, joining eight other zones under similar alerts. In Ventura County, evacuation orders were downgraded in the Lake Piru Recreation Area, East of Piru Canyon Road, East of the Community of Piru and East of Center Street and Highway 126. 4,200.
