Tribal association slams police inaction on alleged attack on Irulas in Pennagaram
According to the complaint lodged by the Irula family, residents of Kuzhipatti village in Vattuvanahalli panchayat in Pennagaram, the attack took place on June 10. The assault on the Irula woman, and her family however led to filing of cases on both the parties, the victims and the perpetrators, according to TNTA.
On Tuesday, the TNTA led protests demanding the police make arrests under the Scheduled Caste Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The victims, Murugan and his wife Deivanai, are among the 20 Irula households in the Kuzhipatti village, with a majority belonging to the dominant Vanniyar community houses.
The couple also owns 50 cents of marginal holding on which they raise groundnuts and millets. Like others in the village, a part of poramboke land was under cultivation by Murugan. However, according to the complaint, the alleged aggressor Selvam, from the dominant community, had been demanding a road on the farmland under Murugan's use in order to reach Selvam's land, also a poramboke. On July 10, Selvam had brought in a tractor, trespassed into Murugan's land, levelled the vegetation and laid a road. Murugan's wife Deivanai, who had come in the way of the tractor to stop the levelling of their agricultural land was also attacked and disrobed, according to the TNTA.
CPI(M) ex-MLA Dilli Babu, who lead the protest on Tuesday, slammed the attack as a deliberate act to grab the lands of the Irulas. The assault on Deivanai, which had reportedly left her incapacitated with injury to her ribs, and other family members led to their admission to Dharmapuri government hospital. In their absence, the vegetation on the poramboke under Murugan's use was cleared up and a 10 feet road was laid by Selvam to the poramboke under his use, according to TNTA.
On Tuesday, TNTA demanded arrests of the perpetrators of the violence on Deivanai. The Tribal association affiliated to the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has also demanded compensation for the loss of trees on Murugan's land.
The Hindu contacted Sabapathi, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Pennagaram, on the status of the case. Mr. Sabapathi said, 'the Irulas went to Vanniyars land and created ruckus, which led to fisticuffs.'
Further, the DSP said that the other parties have approached the court for anticipatory bail and no arrest was made.

He declared that the religious community would not tolerate what he characterized as the conversion of their temple into a mosque, announcing plans to conduct prayer ceremonies at the site regardless of administrative objections. He called upon followers to gather at Puri Thakur Dak Bungalow for a coordinated march and worship session. Virendra Pandey from the Vishwa Hindu Parishad reinforced these claims, identifying the site as a temple dedicated to Lord Bholenath and Shri Krishna. He pointed to religious symbols, a circumambulation path, and a temple well as supporting evidence, expressing desire to clean the premises for upcoming Janmashtami celebrations scheduled for August 16. Pandey criticized the administration for not responding seriously to their concerns despite advance notification. National Ulama Council's National Secretary Mo Naseem strongly condemned the incident, characterizing it as an attempt to distort historical records and disturb communal harmony. He emphasized that the location contains centuries-old graves and is properly documented in government files, questioning whether every mosque and tomb would now face similar challenges. Naseem warned that his organization would initiate protests if authorities failed to prevent the planned August 11 program. District administration officials have implemented comprehensive security measures in response to the volatile situation. Junior Engineer Avinash Pandey from Nagar Palika Parishad confirmed that barricading operations were conducted under direct orders from the District Officer to prevent unauthorized access to the disputed area. Police forces continue patrolling the vicinity while officials monitor developments to prevent further escalation. The administration maintains its position that the land remains officially registered as a national property tomb according to government documentation, while security personnel work to maintain order in the sensitive area.

Noida Police bust fake international police, crime investigation bureau office; 6 arrested
Six men were arrested in Noida on Sunday (August 10, 2025) for allegedly misleading people through a fake office and by posing as members of international police and various other organisations, officials said. According to police, the accused are residents of West Bengal. They pretended to be government officials as well and influenced locals with the logo of the office. They had rented an office recently in sector 70 in Central Noida. The racket was busted and six people were arrested, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Noida) Shakti Mohan Awasthy said. 'They used to extort money from people by showing fake documents and logos. They also pretended to be government officials to impress people,' the officer added. 'The arrested accused made a rent agreement on June 4 and were operating the office for the last 15 days. They also had a website — — and took donations. Further investigation is on,' he said. The accused have been identified as Vibhash Chandra Adhikari (27), an arts graduate; Aragya Adhikari (26), a law graduate; Pintu Pal (27); Samapdal (25); Babul Chandra Mandal (27); and Ashish Kumar (57) — all Class-12 pass. While the first four are residents of West Bengal's Birbhum district, Mandal and Kumar are residents of 24 Parganas and Kolkata, respectively, police said. Police have seized nine mobile phones, 17 stamp seals, six cheque books, nine identity cards, a PAN card, a voter card, six ATM cards, three types of visiting cards, certificates recognised by ministries and a CPU. Four boards of the 'International Police and Crime Investigation Bureau', ₹42,300 in cash and other documents were also seized from the possession of the accused. A case has been registered under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Information Technology Act and Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act at the Phase 3 police station in Central Noida.
