Spaxton Cricket Club defeated in opening fixture
Somerset Cricket League, Division Three: Spaxton 169-9 lost to Minehead 170-5 by five wickets
Spaxton First XI started their season in Division Three of the Somerset League with a home match against Minehead Seconds. After choosing to bat first the hosts found themselves 12 for two after four overs before a mini rebuild from the watchful Ryan Gamblin and promoted Adam Richards carefully progressed the score to 35 without further loss after 10 overs. Gamblin went for nine and Richards soon followed going for one shot too many him saw him caught for 35 from 33 balls including eight boundaries and Spaxton were wobbling at 58 for four after 15 overs. Ben Rich and skipper David Pople then ticked the score along to 98 at the the 25 over mark before Pople went for 17. Scott Bellinger went cheaply which brought Dan Andison to join Rich and the two added 32 before the latter went for 18. Rich took his own score onto 46 off 70 balls before he was out with the total on 162 shortly after which the Spaxton innings concluded on 169 for nine from the 40 overs.
When Minehead replied their openers rattled along to 66-0 after 14 overs, before Bishop and Pople were introduced soon after which two wickets fell. A double breakthrough in the 20th over from Pople saw Minehead wobble and find themselves 90 for four. A steady partnership from Lewis Goodrum and Sam Cobb saw Minehead edge to 135 when Matt Mackenzie broke through accounting for Cobb on 27. With Minehead needing 35 from 10 overs, Goodrum with a patient 31 not out off 42 balls and Ranjeesh Krishnan who hit unbeaten 22 off 12 balls attacked to see the visitors over the line comfortably with six overs to spare. John Bishop ended with two for 24 while Pople claimed two for 22. Longtime 22News Anchor Rich Tettemer retires after 37 years
CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – After 37 years at 22News, our longtime 22News Anchor Rich Tettemer is retiring. Rich's career in broadcasting began back in January 1984 as a videotape editor at WFLA in Tampa, Florida. He then went on to become a Weekend Sports Anchor at KODE-TV in Joplin, Missouri. 22News' Rich Tettemer awarded Garry Brown Excellence Award night before retirement Rich joined the 22News team on April 18, 1988, which was Patriots Day with both the Boston Marathon and the Red Sox morning game, and handled the busy day smoothly. He stood with us through the glory years, covering all the unforgettable Patriots Super Bowl victories. In locker rooms, on parade routes, and in the hearts of fans, Rich captured the emotion behind every win. From Salt Lake City to Torino, he showed us the world stage at the Olympics. In 2004, an event would be what Rich calls the pinnacle of his sports career. After 86 long years, the Red Sox finally broke the curse, and Rich was right there, bringing the magic home to fans who had waited a lifetime. He was then moved to anchor the morning newscast on October 16, 2006, after 18 and a half years on the sports desk. He has been the morning news Anchor for another 18 and a half years. Year after year, through rain or shine, Rich was front and center at the Holyoke St. Patrick's Parade, hosting, celebrating, and bringing our communities together. He helped shape important conversations, moderating debates, holding candidates accountable, and always putting facts first. When the world stood still during the COVID-19 pandemic, Rich stood tall, guiding us with steady hands and trusted words when we needed them most. During his career at 22News, he was voted by the readers of the Springfield Advocate and the Valley Advocate as Best Sportscaster. Rich has also garnered 13 Associated Press awards from 1994 through 2006. Additionally, he has served as co-host of the Children's Miracle Network Telethon since 1989. He was also just awarded the Garry Brown Excellence Award. Rich will be replaced by current 22News Reporter Julia O'Keefe. Starting on Monday, Julia and 22News's Kaelee Collins will be the new morning anchor team. From all of us at 22News and around western Massachusetts, thank you, Rich Tettemer. HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – The Western Massachusetts Baseball Hall of Fame Committee announced the induction of its Class of 2025. 22News' Rich Tettemer reflects on a highlight career Our very own Anchor, Rich Tettemer, was honored Thursday night, as he gets ready to retire. On the eve of Rich Tettemer's retirement, the longtime anchor got to take part in the Western Massachusetts Baseball Hall of Fame, not only as MC, but as an inductee of the 2025 class. Long-time 22News Morning Anchor Rich Tettemer began his career in sports broadcasting. His passion for baseball led to many years of covering Super Bowls, Olympics, and World Series–including the 2004 historic win. Rich was awarded the Gary Brown Excellence Award at Wyckoff Country Club in Holyoke. The Western Massachusetts Baseball Hall of Fame gave recognition to his contribution to local sports since joining 22News in 1988. 'To even be named in the same sentence as Garry brown is quite an honor,' says Tettemer. The other Class of 2025 inductees included Pete Fatse. He currently serves as the hitting coach for the Boston Red Sox and is a western Massachusetts native. Fatse says, 'As long as you continue to find joy in the game, you're going to be in a good place.' Love for baseball draws those who have given so much to the sport. Rich Tettemer is retiring Friday, June 6, reflecting on his switch from sports to morning anchor in 2006. 'Look, I wouldn't trade that for the world,' Rich adds. 'Because it was a great run to see all three of my kids, and be with my wife, and go to all those games and not miss a pitch, not miss a goal.' Rich shared some advice to young adults when picking their careers. He said to pick something that you like to do—Something that you get excited to go to work every day.
