Somerset Cricket League, Division Three: Spaxton 169-9 lost to Minehead 170-5 by five wickets
Spaxton First XI started their season in Division Three of the Somerset League with a home match against Minehead Seconds. After choosing to bat first the hosts found themselves 12 for two after four overs before a mini rebuild from the watchful Ryan Gamblin and promoted Adam Richards carefully progressed the score to 35 without further loss after 10 overs. Gamblin went for nine and Richards soon followed going for one shot too many him saw him caught for 35 from 33 balls including eight boundaries and Spaxton were wobbling at 58 for four after 15 overs. Ben Rich and skipper David Pople then ticked the score along to 98 at the the 25 over mark before Pople went for 17. Scott Bellinger went cheaply which brought Dan Andison to join Rich and the two added 32 before the latter went for 18. Rich took his own score onto 46 off 70 balls before he was out with the total on 162 shortly after which the Spaxton innings concluded on 169 for nine from the 40 overs.
When Minehead replied their openers rattled along to 66-0 after 14 overs, before Bishop and Pople were introduced soon after which two wickets fell. A double breakthrough in the 20th over from Pople saw Minehead wobble and find themselves 90 for four. A steady partnership from Lewis Goodrum and Sam Cobb saw Minehead edge to 135 when Matt Mackenzie broke through accounting for Cobb on 27. With Minehead needing 35 from 10 overs, Goodrum with a patient 31 not out off 42 balls and Ranjeesh Krishnan who hit unbeaten 22 off 12 balls attacked to see the visitors over the line comfortably with six overs to spare. John Bishop ended with two for 24 while Pople claimed two for 22. A huge thank you to Minehead for a game played in good spirits and traditions upheld and huge thanks also to James Venton Planning for sponsoring the game and the continued support.

Nuggets' Nikola Jokic makes final decision on EuroBasket 2025 participation

The post Nuggets' Nikola Jokic makes final decision on EuroBasket 2025 participation appeared first on ClutchPoints. In what is set to make the upcoming EuroBasket 2025 a star-studded event, the Denver Nuggets' Nikola Jokic became the latest NBA superstar to commit to the tournament. The three-time MVP and 2023 NBA Champion was announced as part of Serbia's 17-man preliminary roster alongside multiple NBA stars. Marc Stein of The Stein Line reported that Jokic joins a roster filled with stars such as Nikola Topic, Bogdan Bogdanovic and Nikola Jovic, alongside EuroLeague sensation Vasilihie Micic, and is now set to take part in the tournament which tips off later this month, on August 27. Jokic will play under head coach Svetislav Pesic, and will be seen alongside the likes of Giannis Antetokounmpo and Luka Doncic. The former also recently confirmed his decision to play in the tournament. The tournament is set to be hosted across Cyprus, Finland, Poland and Latvia, with Serbia set to compete in a challenging Group A which includes the likes of Estonia, Latvia, Turkiye, Czech Republic, and Portugal. Serbia will tip off its campaign with two warm-up events. The first will feature Greece in Israelm with the three teams set to play multiple games in Cyrpus on August 9 and 10. Further, Serbia will then participate in a mini-tournament in Munich from August 15-16 where they will face off against Czech Republic and the winners of the game between Germany and Turkey. The final warm-up game will be played against Slovenia on August 21 at the Belgrade Arena and will potentially pit Jokic against Luka Doncic. Giannis Antetokounmpo, the Milwaukee Bucks' two-time MVP, has also declared his intent to play for Greece. The Greece roster also included the likes of Kostas Sloukas and Tyler Dorsey, with both Nick Calathes and Thanasis Antetokounmpo set to miss the tournament. Jokic's inclusion undoubtedly elevates an already NBA-rich roster into one of the leading contenders in the tournament. Quiz: How well do you know your older athletes? The week of the veteran comebacks

The saying goes that age is just a number. In professional sports, that number usually matters quite a bit. Boxing, tennis, baseball and other elite sports have long been dominated by athletes who hit their physical primes in their 20s and 30s, but the return of three mid-40s stars this week has us appreciating the diligence it takes to remain competitive against much younger foes. Advertisement The week of the returning veterans began with Manny Pacquiao coming back from a four-year hiatus to battle Mario Barrios for the WBC welterweight world title. Pacquiao impressed in his return but came up just short as the bout ended in a majority draw. Then, on Tuesday, Rich Hill made MLB history by suiting up for a record-tying 14th team. His first start of the season extended his career to a remarkable 21 seasons. While he picked up a loss, he hung in there against the Chicago Cubs' league-leading offense, allowing three runs (one earned) on six hits, with two walks and one strikeout across five innings. Hours later, tennis legend Venus Williams played her first singles match since March 2024 and recorded her first win since 2023 as she topped Peyton Stearns. With the win, Williams became the second-oldest woman to win a singles match on the WTA Tour, only younger than Martina Navratilova in 2004. If you noticed, we didn't include the ages of Pacquiao, Hill or Williams in the paragraphs above. That's because we have a test about them and some other stars. Don't expect this to be easy — just like in real life, discerning sports ages can be very difficult.
