Sabah PKR denies seat talks held with BN
Its state information chief, Razeef Rakimin, described the statement by Sabah Umno information chief Datuk Suhaimi Nasir as 'misleading and false.'
'We don't know where Suhaimi got the figure of 40 seats (for Barisan) and who he discussed this with,' Razeef said in a statement on Thursday (May 1).
He stated that although informal meetings may have taken place, there has been no formal negotiation between Barisan and Pakatan, let alone a conclusive agreement on seat distribution.
'I have confirmed with all Pakatan leaders — no such talks have taken place,' he said.
Razeef also criticised Sabah Barisan leaders for repeatedly issuing unilateral statements on political cooperation without engaging in actual discussions with Pakatan.
'Barisan leaders in Sabah have made statements like this multiple times despite never meeting with Pakatan, let alone discussing these matters,' he said.
Razeef, who is also deputy chief of PKR's national information bureau, said that Sabah PKR and Pakatan are open to working with any party that shares a common vision for the state, but stressed that such matters must be discussed in official meetings, not through the media.
On Thursday (May 1), Suhaimi had said that BN would contest 40 seats while the remaining 33 would be allocated to Pakatan, based on an understanding that respects incumbency and grassroots strength.

Suhaimi also claimed that there would be no overlaps in candidacy as both sides had reached a consensus, echoing an agreement allegedly made during a retreat in Penang last year.
However, DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke has also previously clarified that no official decision has been made on Sabah-level cooperation between the two coalitions.

The Senallang assemblyman said that although he had no intention of politicising it, he had highlighted it in Parliament as a platform to push for better protection in schools where they were under the care of public authorities. He questioned why action was delayed despite evidence being available, and called on those in positions of authority not to take the matter lightly. 'Now that we know there are elements of bullying, sexual harassment and negligence, it's been made clear. But the question is… who did that? That is the important part. Take them to the court. Zara Qairina was confirmed dead at Queen Elizabeth I Hospital, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, on July 17 after being found severely injured and unconscious in a drain near her school dormitory in Papar at 4am on July 16.

Electoral pact with GRS could be a 'costly liability', says Sabah Umno
KOTA KINABALU: Forging an electoral pact with Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) could prove costly, says Sabah Umno. Sabah Umno strategic communications director Datu Rosman Ahir Zaman said there were valid concerns raised by Sabah PKR chief Datuk Mustapha Sakmud on the mining scandal and other issues faced by GRS. Mustapha, whose party is part of GRS' ally Pakatan Harapan, had told an online portal that it was important to maintain peace and stability within the coalition. "We agree with the concerns voiced by Mustapha," said Rosman, adding that the mining scandal had yet to be resolved and videos implicating certain assemblymen were not helping public perception of the party. "Forming a pact with GRS would be a burden to their partners and become a costly liability," Rosman said. He said Sabah Barisan would only work with partners who are sincere and have the same aspirations to serve the people and the state. Earlier, Sabah PKR Information chief Farid Sainuri said that Mustapha had meant well when voicing his concerns. He said this was a reaction to a statement by Sabah Umno information chief Suhaimi Nasir who referred to GRS as a "liability" in any potential Barisan-Pakatan Harapan-GRS pact.

Is UMNO now divided on backing or outright opposing Akmal's 'no fear, no surrender' stand on flag row?
IS UMNO deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan's recent remark of 'don't scapegoat' firebrand UMNO Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh over the Jalur Gemilang row – but to enforce law on all – his personal opinion or that of the party? Not only that this matter should best be addressed by party president and disciplinarian Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, statement of the Rembau MP and Foreign Minister has only emboldened Akmal whose notoriety has strained the party's ties with DAP probably to the point of beyond repair. After all, Zahid who has been tight-lipped on the matter had no qualms axing its former supreme council member and information chief Isham Jalil from the party in December 2023 purportedly for being critical over the party's cooperation with DAP since the outcome of the six state elections in August 2023. Beyond that, Zahid has also been instrumental in sacking a few renowned UMNO leaders in the name of party loyalty, namely former three-term Rembau MP and ex-health minister Khairy Jamaluddin and warlords Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim and Tan Sri Annuar Musa (the latter two have since jointed PAS). Interestingly though, Zahid who is also the Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) broke his deafening silence yesterday (Aug 17) by – to cite Malaysiakini – nudging both his youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh and DAP Youth to quit fighting. UMNO indecisive over Akmal? Without mentioning names, the Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman further stressed that the key message for both was not to let their actions harm ties within the coalition government. 'We have made a decision at the leadership level. Don't for the sake of popularising an issue or wanting to become the most popular, in the end, ties between parties are jeopardised, especially at the grassroots level,' remarked Zahid presumably directed at Akmal. As for the Penang DAP Socialist Youth (DAPSY) chapter which has threatened to severe ties with Akmal while describing the Russia-trained medical doctor as a danger to national harmony, Zahid – again without mentioning names – warned that political decisions should not come at the expense of coalition unity. 'Because of one incident, we don't want a political decision to be made that rocks the unity of the 18 parties that form the Madani government,' he advised. In what is believed to be a veiled response to Zahid later, Akmal posted on social media that his love for religion, race and nation is priceless (see main image). 'If that's what is considered and said in the end, I've nothing more to say. Thank you,' he penned on his Facebook page. Given that vocal UMNO supreme council member Datuk Puad Zarkashi, too, had recently praised Akmal for his patriotism in defending the proper use of the Malaysian flag while a day later sternly warned that 'messing with the Jalur Gemilang is tantamount to 'stirring up a hornets' nest', Akmal has certainly caused a division within his own party.
