Ukrainian coach finds new 'home' with Sheffield boxing academy
When Oleksandr came to Sheffield, Brendan Warburton MBE, the founder of Sheffield City Boxing Club, first offered him an opportunity to coach. Before his arrival the pair had swapped messages on Facebook but it was clear immediately that the Ukrainian would be an asset.Warburton said: "He was great with kids and brilliant with all members, he used to really muck in with everyone"He's a really good coach and an all-round nice fella."Working with young people in the boxing ring has always been Oleksandr's passion, having taken part in 150 fights back in Ukraine."I love children, I have four of my own, coaching is hard with long hours but when parents and children are happy I am happy," he said.
Syd Khan, who had introduced boxing at Syd's Gym in the old Darnall Education Centre on Darnall Road, was alerted to Oleksandr's talent by a friend who showed him coaching videos."I've never seen anything like it, the way he was communicating with the children, they were so connected," said Khan."I thought, wow, I need to use this guy." He allowed Oleksandr to set up the Pohodin Academy in May 2024 and it's proved a successful partnership."He is strict and has standards but he's an amazing guy to work with."We're now an affiliated boxing club with 22 amateur fighters - the majority had never fought before. He did that in a year."
Whilst Oleksandr's still has family in Ukraine, he is keen to now stay in Sheffield."I thought I would live in the UK for just two months but now we are settled here," he said."My children speak the language. I have a business. This is my new home, I hope I can stay."The coach is also unashamedly ambitious for the club. Three of his boxers will soon be competing in the National Schools Championships in Northumberland."I would like three medals. Minimum. "In five years I would like a national champion and then a world champion, God willing."

Oleksandr Usyk finally responds after being ordered to fight Joseph Parker
The Ukrainian became a two-time undisputed heavyweight champion last month - but was quickly ordered to defend one of his titles against the Kiwi sensation Oleksandr Usyk has requested an extension on negotiations to fight Joseph Parker due to injury. Last month, it was revealed that the Ukrainian was ordered to defend his WBO heavyweight title against the Kiwi heavyweight star - or risks losing the coveted strap. It came soon after Usyk became an undisputed heavyweight champion for a second time after knocking out Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium. Just weeks on from the WBO's order, boxing promoter Frank Warren has revealed that the Ukrainian star has asked for an "extension period" because he is injured. Alternatively, Parker could go on to face the winner of Moses Itauma's fight with Dillian Whyte - should Usyk decide to vacate the WBO title. In an interview with Sky Sports, Warren said: "The WBO have put out about a month ago that Joe Parker - who is their interim champion - has to challenge against (Oleksandr) Usyk and Usyk has to defend against him. He has put a letter in yesterday, I found out today, stating that he has asked for an extension period because he is injured before being ordered to do anything. "But whatever happens, the fact is that Joe Parker will either as champion, if Usyk vacates the title, or he will face Usyk for the title. So, it's exciting times if Moses (Itauma) were to win or even if Dillian (Whyte) wins... whoever wins that fight, they are in the one spot. And if the fight does not happen with Usyk and Joe, then Joe will have to fight the official number one contender." Last month, the governing body sent an official letter to both Usyk and Parker - which read: "Gentlemen: Please be advised that the WBO World Championship Committee is hereby ordering the commencement of negotiations between the subject matter fighters to discharge the mandatory title defence obligation. "By virtue of this order, the parties have thirty (30) days upon issuance of this letter to reach terms. Failure to do so will result in this committee ordering purse bid proceedings in accordance with WBO regulations of World Championship Contests. The minimum bid in the Heavyweight division is one-million dollars ($1,000,000.00). Any of the parties herein may request purse bid proceedings at any time during negotiation stages. "Lastly, the WBO reserves its right to issue any and all further rulings deemed necessary, helpful and convenient to accomplish the purposes, policies, and intent of the WBO rules, including but not limited to serving those interests that best serve boxing, and the WBO Heavyweight Division. Do not hesitate to contact the WBO headquarters if you have any questions or concerns." Earlier this year, Usyk had revealed he has two more fights in him before officially calling it a day. After knocking out Dubois, the Ukrainian is set for one more outing - and it is fair to say he is not short of options. Earlier this month, it was revealed that the two-division undisputed champion has a three-man hit-list ahead of his final fight. According to 112 Ukraine, Tyson Fury is still in consideration for a trilogy fight. Another name on the the 38-year-old's list is heavyweight sensation, Joseph Parker. The final name on the stacked list is Paul. Both Usyk and Paul faced off in the ring after the former's win over Dubois last month - hinting at a potential showdown between the pair. When is Oleksandr Usyk's next fight? It appears Usyk will take a well-deserved break for the remainder of the year to relax and enjoy precious moments with his family before considering his next move in the squared circle. Following his victory over Dubois, the Ukrainian champion reflected on his age, declaring: "38 is a young guy, remember! 38 is only the start! "I want to say thank you to Jesus Christ. I want to say thank you to my team and Wembley, thank you so much! It's for the people. Nothing is next. It's enough, next, I don't know. I want to rest. My family, my wife, my children, I want to rest now. Two or three months, I want to just rest." He continued: "Maybe it's Tyson Fury," Usyk added. "Maybe we have three choices, Derek Chisora and Anthony Joshua. Maybe Joseph Parker. Listen, I cannot now say because I want to go back home."

Neil Lennon celebrates Dunfermline's goal Credit: Kenny Ramsay Former Celtic captain and boss Lennon, 54, was spotted rocking a pair of shades and an Oasis T-shirt as he made his way to the home of Scottish rugby on Tuesday night. Lenny was one of the lucky 70,000 punters to have snapped-up one of the gold dust tickets to see the last of the band's three sold out performances in Edinburgh this month. The Hoops great has spoken before about how huge a fan of Oasis' he is - and has seen them SEVERAL times. He also named his son after the band's brothers, Liam and Noel. Lennon once said: "I've seen Oasis 13 or 14 times, including at Maine Road, which is one of the best gigs I've ever been at. "I've met them a few times – Liam is a lot smarter than he makes out, and Noel just cracks you up every time he opens his mouth. "I named my son after them as well. He's called Gallagher." Given how huge a fan he is, it's little surprise that he headed along to Murrayfield to catch the big reunion tour in action. And it's fair to say he was absolutely LOVING it. Another fan in attendance captured a video of a thrilled Lenny singing and dancing along as Oasis belt out Cigarettes & Alcohol. Neil Lennon telling Hearts fans to dry their eyes after Dunfermline equaliser Clutching a bucket hat, Lennon sings along word for word. Lennon certainly seemed to be enjoying the gig more than one time he went to see Oasis in 1996. He'd gone to that particular concert with Northern Ireland teammate Steve Lomas, who was the Manchester City captain at that time. And things took a turn when the two players ended up getting PHYSICAL - with Lennon chucked out. Lennon revealed in an interview: "The gig was amazing, as all Oasis gigs were in those days. Happy Mondays were on before them, so you can imagine the carnage. "So, I'd gone with Steve Lomas who was the City captain at the time and a couple of other Leicester players and Irish players. "With his bit of pull, Lomas got the group access backstage where they all got to schmooze with the band and other high-profile names. "The only problem it seemed was that 'nobody was talking to Steve'. "Steve gets a bit itchy when he's had a bit to drink and he starts looking at me in a funny way. "So, I'm talking to 'Bonehead', who is the bassist with the band, and his Grandfather about Gaelic football, and I see out of the corner of my eye that Lomas is still looking at me. "So I says, 'what's wrong with you?' Next thing, bang, he stuck the head on me." Lomas' status as the Man City captain at the time spared him the same fate as Lennon and he was NOT thrown out of the venue. Lennon's Dunfermline side have started the Championship season with four points from their openin two matches. An opening day 0-0 draw at Morton was followed by a 2-0 win over Airdrieonians in their first home game on Saturday just gone. Next up, it's a clash with fierce rivals Raith Rovers on Friday night. Rooney was left bitterly disappointed by Brady's critique, saying on his BBC podcast: "I think Tom came in once, which was the day before a game where the days are a little bit lighter anyway. "And I don't think he really understood football that well. "But what he does understand is, he's a hard worker, we know that." Rooney, who was sacked by the Blues in January 2024 after 15 games in charge, added: "Football is not NFL – NFL works for three months a year. "Players do need rest as well, so I think he's very unfair, the way he's come out and portrayed that." THIS IS A DEVELOPING STORY..
