B&Q May bank holiday 2025 opening times - see when your store is open
If you're planning on doing a spot of DIY this early May bank holiday, then you may be wondering if your local B&Q will be open.
B&Q has more than 300 shops across the UK and the good news is, its branches will be open this Monday, May 5. The DIY retailer is generally open from 7am until 8pm, Monday to Saturday, and this should remain the case on Monday.
Its stores will also be open from 10am to 4pm in England and Wales, or from 9am to 6pm in Scotland. You should still check the B&Q opening times tool online to check when your local branch is open.
It comes as new research from B&Q shows 40% of homeowners and 23% of renters are adapting their current home to meet their changing needs instead of moving.
Graham Bell, CEO at B&Q said: "We're seeing homeowners have more confidence to undertake radical transformations – bedrooms being moved downstairs, garden rooms becoming annexes with separate entrances, walls going up, and others coming down - whether it's to accommodate a need driven by living alone, or with immediate or extended family.
"At B&Q, we believe in better homes and better lives for everyone, and with a growing demographic of diy-ers, we're continuing to evolve and modernise our offer, to give our customers greater choice, convenience and expertise."
Back in March this year, B&Q owner Kingfisher revealed its yearly profit dropped by more than a third, due to weaker demand for big purchases and rising costs from higher wages, taxes and inflation.
The DIY giant, which also owns Screwfix, said it was expecting around a £145million hit this year.

Wall Street set for lower open with Fed meet in focus; Walmart slides
Aug 21 (Reuters) - Wall Street's main indexes were set for a lower open on Thursday, as investors turned cautious ahead of the Federal Reserve's three-day conference in Jackson Hole, while big-box retailer Walmart's quarterly results did little to boost sentiment. Walmart (WMT.N), opens new tab raised its fiscal year sales and profit, driven by strong demand from shoppers across all income levels. But its shares fell 2.5% in premarket trading. The "results were actually pretty good across the board. I just think they're landing in a market that has taken on a risk off tone this week," said Art Hogan, chief market strategist at B Riley Wealth. Reports from other retailers such as Target (TGT.N), opens new tab and Home Depot (HD.N), opens new tab earlier this week painted a mixed picture, while technology stocks such as Nvidia, AMD, Palantir and Meta saw a sharp decline. The selloff signaled investor fears that the equities, which have soared since April lows, are now overvalued, while Washington's growing interference in the sector has also raised alarms. But according to the Stock Trader's Almanac, the selloff could also be a result of investors paring back their stock exposure during a traditionally rocky period for equities. "Although dip buyers have stepped in to stabilize the market, it's too early to rule out a further slump in mega-cap tech stocks," said Raffi Boyadjian, lead market analyst at brokerage XM. In premarket trading, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD.O), opens new tab and Palantir (PLTR.O), opens new tab were marginally up, while Meta (META.O), opens new tab lost 0.7% and Nvidia (NVDA.O), opens new tab slipped 0.3%. At 08:43 a.m. ET, Dow E-minis were down 176 points, or 0.39%, S&P 500 E-minis were down 22.75 points, or 0.36% and Nasdaq 100 E-minis were down 85.75 points, or 0.37%. Boeing (BA.N), opens new tab gained 1.7% after a report suggested that the plane maker was in talks to sell as many as 500 jets to China, while Coty (COTY.N), opens new tab slumped 19% after the beauty products maker forecast a drop in current-quarter sales on weak U.S. spending. The spotlight this week is on the Fed's annual symposium, where Chair Jerome Powell is scheduled to speak on Friday at 10 a.m. ET. Traders are looking for any commentary from Powell that would signal an interest rate cut in September following recent job market weakness. A weekly report on Thursday showed that the number of jobless claims rose by the most in about three months last week. The minutes from the central bank's July meeting indicate that policymakers had struck a cautious tone and plan to stick with it until they can fully gauge the impact of trade uncertainty on the economy. The caution had traders paring odds of a 25-basis-point interest rate cut in September to 79% from 99.9% last week, according to data compiled by LSEG. In trade developments, the U.S. and the European Union on Thursday finalized a framework deal they had reached last month.

King Charles and Queen Camilla searching for jobseeker with eye for 'complex' issues
The Royal Family's official website has listed a new role at Buckingham Palace, with the King and Queen advertising for a Royal Engagements Officer in the Private Secretary's Office King Charles and Queen Camilla have posted a new vacancy at the palace for job hunters with a knack for handling "complex" matters. In what might be a golden chance for Royal Family enthusiasts, the monarchy's official website has listed a position for Royal Engagements Officer within the Private Secretary's Office. Job seekers skilled at managing "complex and sensitive issues" could secure the chance to work at Buckingham Palace, organising the King and Queen's engagements for a yearly wage of £40,000. The role is a 12-month fixed-term position, covering 37.5 hours weekly across five days and commencing in November. The listing explains that the "dynamic" team's responsibilities encompass arranging official visits, audiences and addresses. The team's "mission statement" declares: "Facilitating meaningful contact between Their Majesties' and the world through careful coordination, thoughtful briefings and seamless delivery of engagements." The successful applicant's responsibilities will include delivering a "varied programme" of engagements, including both domestic and abroad, "overseeing" the "planning and logistics" and drafting "meticulous, comprehensive briefings". Meanwhile, under the "about you" section, the royal advertisement seeks people who are "adept at absorbing and rapidly assimilating often complex and nuanced material" and have an understanding of current affairs, the UK and the Commonwealth. Some of the benefits of the job include an "excellent" pension scheme, complimentary meals and a 20 per cent reduction at the Royal Collection Trust Shops. Candidates who wish to apply for the job have until 11:55pm on August 31 to submit their applications. This comes after reports that Charles has kicked off his summer residence at Balmoral with a military ceremony. The King examined Cpl Cruachan IV, a Shetland pony which acts as the Royal Regiment of Scotland's mascot. The King was also given a Guard of Honour during the formal ceremonies and attended a church service. Subsequently, reports the BBC, troops showcased their skills with pipes and drums. Charles also mingled with European visitors despite warm conditions (which reached a peak of 23C). Those present hailed from Germany, the Netherlands, and France. In addition, a seldom-seen member of the Firm is expected to accompany Charles at Balmoral: Christopher Woolf (also known as Wolfie), Princess Beatrice's stepson. He's scheduled to visit alongside Beatrice and his father, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi. Wolfie's parents (his mother is architect Dara Huang) have reportedly worked to protect their son's privacy, though he has gradually begun appearing at Royal occasions. One such event was the Christmas Day church walk at Sandringham. Among some of the reported attendees are Princess Eugenie and her family, including her parents, the Duke of York, Prince Andrew, and Sarah Ferguson. A family friend told the Daily Mail: "He will enjoy a wonderful holiday of outdoor activities such as wild swimming and cycling."

B&M confirms exact date Scottish store will close with shoppers left 'heartbroken'
The firm will be switching its focus to a refurbished store nearby instead. The Scottish high street is set for another closure. This time, it's B&M that is shutting up shop, with one of its branches near Edinburgh being axed in the new year. The popular bargain retailer will be shuttering its Musselburgh store in East Lothian within the next few months, with bosses confirming it will close its doors on January 9, 2026. It's unclear why the store will be closing down, although the Scottish Sun reports that bosses have revealed that staff members will be relocated to alternative stores within the area. It comes as bosses have said that they will be switching focus onto the firm's store based in the Fort Kinnaird centre that has recently undergone a massive revamp. Located just 12 minutes away from the Musselburgh branch and actually within the capital's city limits, it now offers shoppers a garden centre and a much larger selection of products for them to browse through. A spokesperson for B&M said: "All colleagues from this store will be offered employment at local B&M stores in the surrounding area after the closure on January 9. 'We're committed to bringing the best possible B&M stores to East Lothian. "We recently upgraded our nearby Fort Kinnaird store – now home to a garden centre and a much bigger range just two miles away, ensuring we continue to offer the best possible shopping experience and broadest range in the area." Shoppers on social media haven't met the news lightly, with one saying: "More empty shops. No parking in Musselburgh to encourage retailers. Shame for staff." Another added: "A bloody disgrace." Someone else wrote: "Such a shame, it's always busy." While a fourth posted: "Heart is BROKEN, this is gutting." And a fifth chimed in: "Shocking news". Formed in 1978, B&M is now one of the UK's leading retailers on the high street, employing more than 35,000 staff members across over 700 stores, with 76 based in Scotland alone. The news comes amidst a wave of closures to hit the high street recently, with The Original Factory and Poundland closing down stores across Scotland in recent weeks, with more planned for the future. Meanwhile, in other high street related news, the UK branch of Claire's Accessories recently collapsed into administration, leaving 2,000 jobs across over 300 stores at risk. We reported last week that the jewellery firm's website was no longer taking orders. Customers are also unable to seek refunds on previously made orders after the company drafted in advisors to help repay a loan worth $480million (£355million).
