Kajol Kept Laughing During Shilpa Shetty's Death Scene In Baazigar: 'Itna Nail Polish Kaun Lagata Hai?'

News1809-07-2025
Kajol recalls laughing during a serious Baazigar scene because of Shilpa Shetty's feet and nail polish, says Abbas-Mustan had to scold her to stay in character.
Kajol recently looked back on a moment from the sets of Baazigar that still makes her laugh. The 1993 thriller might be remembered for its dramatic scenes, but for Kajol, one emotional sequence turned unexpectedly funny—thanks to her co-star Shilpa Shetty's feet.
In a conversation with The Lallantop, Kajol recalled how she ended up laughing uncontrollably during a scene where Shilpa was playing a dead body. 'Bechari Shilpa ke saath huya. It was the dead body sequence, and for some reason, I just couldn't stop laughing at her feet. I looked at them and thought, 'Who applies this much nail polish while dying?' I was laughing uncontrollably just looking at her feet."
Despite the seriousness of the scene, Kajol couldn't pull herself together. 'I kept laughing, 'Oh my god this is so funny, Shilpa's feet and nail polish'. Aur Abbas bhai said, 'Baby no, listen, you have to give shot right now and cry.' But I couldn't control myself. Toh Abbas bhai ne fir daanta mujhe uss time ki 'Stop it. Imagine if it was your real sister, then would you be laughing like this? Toh ekdum flip hogaya mera fir mood."
The director's words helped Kajol switch gears emotionally, but the memory clearly stayed with her—and fans now know what was going on behind the scenes of one of Baazigar's most emotional moments.
On the work front, Kajol's upcoming project is Sarzameen, produced by Karan Johar and directed by Kayoze Irani, son of Boman Irani. The film, which also stars Prithviraj Sukumaran and Ibrahim Ali Khan in key roles, is set to premiere on Jio Hotstar on July 25.
About Baazigar
Baazigar (1993) is one of the defining thrillers of 90s Bollywood, marking a major turning point in the careers of Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol. Directed by the popular duo Abbas-Mustan, the film stood out for its bold storyline where the lead actor played an anti-hero—a rare move in mainstream Hindi cinema at the time. Loosely inspired by the Hollywood film A Kiss Before Dying, Baazigar follows a young man out for revenge, stopping at nothing to get justice for his family. With chart-topping music, gripping twists, and powerful performances, Baazigar became a massive box office success and is still remembered for iconic lines like 'Kabhi kabhi kuch jeetne ke liye kuch haarna padta hai."

Do You Know Ahaan Panday Was First Cast With Ajay Devgn In A Superhero Film Before Saiyaara?

Last Updated: Ahaan Panday's debut in Saiyaara was not his first launch plan, he was earlier set to star in a superhero film with Ajay Devgn. Ahaan Panday is enjoying a dream debut with Saiyaara, which has lit up the box office with a roaring start. But did you know the rising star of Yash Raj Films was actually supposed to make his acting debut with a big-budget superhero film opposite Ajay Devgn? Ahaan, who plays the aspiring rockstar Krish Kapoor in the Mohit Suri-directed Saiyaara, was initially launched as an Assistant Director on The Railway Men, Netflix's acclaimed YRF miniseries. However, before all that, he had already been chosen to headline a superhero film under the YRF banner. According to Bollywood Hungama, the project was an ambitious multi-part superhero saga featuring Ahaan in the lead and Ajay Devgn as the antagonist. Former Miss World Manushi Chhillar was also on board. A source had said in 2020, 'It's true that Ahaan Panday and Ajay Devgn will be seen together. Ajay plays the antagonist in this film, which promises to be a visually grand and exciting affair. It'll be a part of a superhero series and every part will have a new villain." Despite the buzz, the film never made it past pre-production. In 2021, Ajay Devgn reportedly backed out, citing scheduling issues after COVID-19 disrupted several of his pending projects. With the plan shelved, Ahaan shifted gears and joined director Shiv Rawail as an AD on The Railway Men. Following the show's release in November 2023, Ahaan shared an emotional post on Instagram reflecting on his time on set. He wrote, 'I was working on a show about a group of brave souls… it made me realise that that is the only way we can treat our dreams… sometimes life forces you to think about where you're going, but that's exactly when you need to look out of that window and see the beauty in it all." Now, with Saiyaara, Ahaan finally steps into the limelight, and fans are loving his fresh energy and screen presence. The romantic musical also stars Aneet Padda. Bobby Deol, fresh off the Animal wave, was seen interacting with the young debutant, while Disha Patani, who also stars in the film, posed for pictures with fans and co-stars. According to early estimates from Sacnilk, Saiyaara grossed Rs 20.50 crore on its opening day — setting a new record for debutant-led films in Bollywood. Previously, the record was held by Dhadak (2018) with an opening of Rs 8.71 crore and Student of the Year (2012) with Rs 7.48 crore. Directed by Mohit Suri and produced by Yash Raj Films, Saiyaara follows the love story of Krish Kapoor (Ahaan Panday), a dreamer who wants to become a singing sensation, and Vaani Batra (Aneet Padda), an aspiring journalist. Their lives take unexpected turns as love, ambition, and societal pressures clash in this emotionally charged romance. As Saiyaara continues to perform strongly at the box office, the special screening served as both a warm welcome for Ahaan Panday into Bollywood and a celebration of young talent making a splash on the big screen.
