Chennai: MDMK general secretary
Vaiko
relieved party deputy general secretary Mallai Sathya from all responsibilities, accusing him of indulging in "anti-party activities". In a show cause notice issued under party bylaws to Sathya on Aug 17, Vaiko directed the senior functionary not to use the party flag and name and sought a reply within a fortnight.
In the notice issued under Rule 35(6) of MDMK bylaws, Vaiko said Sathya's media interviews and speeches on internal party affairs amounted to violating party rules and tarnished its reputation. "Your activities undermine the interests of the party and are contrary to its policies and objectives," Vaiko said, directing Sathya to hand over records, assets, and responsibilities to the party general secretary immediately.
Sathya must submit a written explanation within a fortnight, failing which, disciplinary action would be taken without further notice.
Sathya distributed sweets to his supporters upon receiving the letter on Wednesday morning. He told reporters that he was ready to meet Vaiko and reply in person. "You are my mentor. You moulded me. Fix a date and place, I will come alone and answer," he said. Sathya also invited Vaiko to attend the 117th birth anniversary event of C N Annadurai in Kancheepuram, where a 'Dravida Ratna' award was planned for him. Sathya had contested unsuccessfully in Madurantakam assembly constituency in 2021, where he lost to AIADMK's Maragatham Kumaravel by 3,570 votes.

Maha counter to US tariff: 100 tweaks to boost biz

Mumbai: At a meeting on Thursday to discuss challenges posed by US tariffs to exports, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis said the state should make 100 amendments to improve the Ease of Doing Business (EoDB) in the state. He also said a War Room will be set up to improve the EoDB policy, which will be reviewed every month. Fadnavis said the state should find alternative markets for its goods. He also said imposition of tariffs should not be treated not as a disaster but as an opportunity to improve the EoDB. Of the state's exports to the US, the bulk is gems and jewellery (38.9%), followed by Electronics and ESDM (17.6%), chemicals (8%), engineering goods and auto components (7.7%), textiles and apparel (7%), plastics (5.2%) and agro and marine products (4.9%). Besides, we are focusing on clearing the backlog on incentives given to industrial units and Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs)," said a senior official who attended the meeting. The state has already cleared incentives worth Rs 1,300 crore to MSMEs recently and the clearance of incentives worth another Rs 2,500 crore is on the cards. Since MSMEs work on limited capital, the state is focusing on helping them cope. Fadnavis also said entrepreneurs should be encouraged to set up private industrial parks for which the MIDC should come up with a plan. The single window portal for industry licenses should be made more efficient so that no permission is required for agro-based industries over an area of five hectares in the state. The pollution fines for industries that do not harm the environment should be revised and additional fines should not be levied anywhere, Fadnavis said. Arrangements should be made to reduce time taken to obtain permissions. The process of calculating the land required for the industry should be expedited, he added. The state plans to create a land bank to arrange plots for setting up industries immediately. It plans to make the plot distribution process transparent and fast, and make arrangements for issuing environmental permits within 60 days. It also plans to create a 'Dedicated Export Portal' to increase exports. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). Bhujbal reviews Kumbh Mela works, to urge NCP chief to secure Nashik guardian minister post for party

Nashik: Food and civic supplies minister Chhagan Bhujbal on Thursday said chairing a meeting regarding the Simhastha Kumbh Mela in the district didn't imply he was the guardian minister of Nashik district. He, however, expressed his intention to urge NCP chief Ajit Pawar to secure the post for the party. "As a minister from Nashik, I have the authority to conduct review meetings for govt departments, including those related to the Simhastha Kumbh Mela . However, this doesn't necessarily mean I'm the guardian minister. I will discuss with the NCP chief that if we're pushing for a guardian minister post in Raigad, where we have one MLA, then we should also push for it in Nashik, where we have seven MLAs. Ultimately, the decision rests with the chief minister," Bhujbal said after reviewing works planned and started for the forthcoming Kumbh Mela. "I believe my experience will help expedite the work, given the urgency of the situation. I've simply suggested measures to officials to ensure timely completion, not given orders. My goal is to facilitate progress and help govt departments work efficiently," the minister said. Bhujbal told the officials delay in the works would lead to a lot of gaps, giving rise to unpleasant situations. "All the major works, be it be for roads or sewage treatment plants, have to kick start in Oct itself. Any delay regarding would affect their timely completion. Hence, I have told the officials to complete all the groundwork before Oct," he said. The minister also spoke to officials of the National Highways Authority of India, saying no new infrastructure works should be taken on the Nashik-Mumbai highway. "Since we have less time in hand, the authorities should refrain from taking up any new work that would not be completed before the Kumbh Mela, as this will affect traffic movement towards Nashik," Bhujbal added. Nagpurian sculpts Saptamrittika Ganesh idol using soil of seven cities

1 2 Nagpur: Ganpati is considered the Lord of Arts. As this year's Ganeshotsav approaches, the work of crafting the beloved Bappa is in its final stages. One traditional artist, Suresh Pathak, has this year sculpted a Ganpati idol using soil from seven different cities, and named it Saptamrittika. With seven days remaining for Bappa's arrival, sculptors are giving final touches to idols. With no restriction on the sale of Plaster of Paris idols this year, both clay and PoP idols are available in the market. However, in a unique effort, Pathak has made Ganesh idols crafted from seven different types of soil, including soil from Vidarbha as well as from outside states. Pathak's creativity is attracting people's attention. A senior member of the traditional sculptors' association in the city, Pathak has always campaigned against the sale of PoP idols, specially as awareness has grown over the last few years. Against this backdrop, Pathak has this year created a Ganpati Bappa idol in natural colours using seven different types of soil. To create the Saptamrittika Ganpati, he has used soil of special colour and specific type from the states of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. Pathak had crafted 100 idols of this type on an experimental basis, all of which were sold within no time. Some 50 idols of this type have been sent to Pune and 20 idols to Mumbai. Devotees have given a tremendous response to Pathak's unique Bappa. Pathak's is already preparing to go all out with his innovation next year, and take up production of Saptamrittika Bappa on a large scale. A few days ago, Pathak even presented an idol as a special gift to Union minister Nitin Gadkari, drawing effusive praise from him. Box: Soil used To create the Saptamrittika Ganpati, Suresh Pathak has used distinctive multicoloured soil from seven cities in three states of India. This includes yellow soil from Chhindwada and Adasi of Madhya Pradesh, dark coloured soil from Azamgarh of Uttar Pradesh, and distinctive, multicoloured soil from Rajura (Chandrapur), Andhalgaon (Bhandara), Yavatmal and Savargaon of Maharashtra.
