AT&T's $17 Million Data Breach Settlement Offers Payouts Up To $7,500, Here's How To Claim
AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T) customers, both present and past, stand to receive up to $7,500 as part of a proposed $177 million settlement. This settlement is in response to two significant data breaches that affected millions of AT&T customers. What Happened: AT&T Inc. has suggested a settlement amounting to $177 million. This sum includes $149 million for the initial class-action lawsuit and an additional $28 million for the second one. The first data breach, revealed in March 2024, impacted 73 million account holders, with hackers obtaining personal information and disseminating it on the dark web. A subsequent breach in July 2024 compromised the call and text records of almost all AT&T customers. According to the report by New York Post, the settlement is yet to receive approval, with a final hearing set for December 3 in the US District Court for the Northern District of Texas. Customers who had their data compromised can apply for compensation before the hearing. They will be notified via an email from Kroll Settlement Administration and must submit a claim form by November 18. Customers who were affected by both breaches could be eligible for up to $7,500. AT&T will require evidence of losses associated with the breaches. Payouts are anticipated to commence by the end of the year, but may be postponed if appeals are lodged after the hearing. iPhone 17 release date rumors — this could be the full schedule
Summer's winding down, and that means Apple's big annual keynote is just around the corner, promising exciting new announcements about the iPhone 17 line-up, new Apple Watches, and more. While Apple hasn't revealed the rollout's full schedule yet, the rhythm of iPhone launches feels as predictable as the turning leaves. If history serves, we have a pretty good guess when you'll be able to get your hands on a shiny new iPhone 17. Rumors suggest Apple will unveil its major fall product line-ups on September 9. If history serves, we expect the event to take place at the company's Cupertino campus, where the iPhone 17 series will be revealed. Notably, Apple's rumored to shake up the iPhone lineup this time around by replacing the Plus model with the super-thin iPhone 17 Air. In addition to the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro, we expect Apple to debut the Apple Watch Series 11 and possibly the Apple Watch Ultra 3. A new version of the AirPods Pro, an updated Apple TV 4K, and the long-awaited smart home hub HomePod 3 could also make an appearance. Looking at the time tables of previous iPhone generations, we're likely to see Apple open pre-orders for the iPhone 17 a few days later. Apple tends to roll out pre-orders on the Friday after the initial announcement, with sales going live the Friday after that. So if history serves, the iPhone 17 could go on sale on Friday, September 19. As for iOS 26, the latest update expected to ship with the iPhone 17, that's easy to pin down as well. Last year, Apple pushed out iOS 18 on September 16, exactly one week after its annual keynote and four days before the iPhone 16 series went on sale. If Apple follows the same pattern, we can expect iOS 26 to arrive on either Monday, September 15, or Tuesday, September 16. We don't have long to wait until we learn more. That's how the companies selling these A.I.-powered kiddie companions are marketing them, but The New York Times' Amanda Hess has some reservations. She recounts a demonstration in which Grem, one of the offerings from startup Curio, tried to bond with her. (Curio also sells a plushie named Grok, with no apparent connection to the Elon Musk-owned chatbot.) Hess writes that this is when she knew, 'I would not be introducing Grem to my own children.' As she talked to the chatbot, she became convinced it was 'less an upgrade to the lifeless teddy bear' and instead 'more like a replacement for me.' She also argues that while these talking toys might keep kids away from a tablet or TV screen, what they're really communicating is that 'the natural endpoint for [children's] curiosity lies inside their phones.' Hess reports that she did, eventually, let her kids play with Grem — but only after she'd removed and hidden the voice box. They still talked to it and played games with it; then they were ready for some TV.
