Daniel Cormier questions Charles Oliveira making a quick turnaround after UFC 317 KO loss
Less than four months after losing his vacant lightweight title fight to Topuria at UFC 317 in June, Oliveira (35-11 MMA, 23-11 UFC) will take on Rafael Fiziev (13-4 MMA, 7-4 UFC) in the UFC Fight Night 261 headliner in Rio de Janeiro on Oct. 11. The event takes place at Farmasi Arena and streams on ESPN+.
"Anytime 'Do Bronx' fights, I get excited. The world gets excited. It's fun. But then you start to digest the idea that Charles Oliveira last month got knocked out bad by Ilia Topuria," Cormier said on his YouTube channel. "Everybody likes Charles Oliveira. We all do.
"He's a nice guy, he's a tremendous fighter, he has done so many great, fun things. But then you wonder why so soon? That was my thought once I calmed down from the excitement of, oh my goodness, Charles Oliveira is fighting again against Rafael Fiziev. It's going to be a barnburner because both of these guys are great strikers."
Cormier pointed to Alexander Volkanovski as an example, and how after getting knocked out by Islam Makhachev at UFC 294, he made a four-month turnaround to defend his featherweight title against Topuria at UFC 298 – where he ended up getting knocked out again.
He also used himself as an example, and how he avoided falling into a similar situation when he was an active fighter.
"I remember in 2017, I fought Jon Jones," Cormier said. "I got knocked out in Anaheim. I got a fight offer right after, and I just said, 'Nah, I need to let my brain heal. I've got to let my mind settle after going out like that.' I knew that for me, to go back and fight that soon, it would not have gone well. So I waited to make sure that I was healthy, and that my brain was back OK before I stepped back into the octagon."

Nevada court apparently clears way for former Raiders coach Jon Gruden to sue NFL over emails
LAS VEGAS (AP) — A Nevada court apparently cleared the way Monday for a 2021 lawsuit filed by former Las Vegas Raiders coach Jon Gruden to proceed against the NFL and Commissioner Roger Goodell, alleging that a 'malicious and orchestrated campaign' was used to destroy Gruden's career by leaking old emails he had sent that included racist, misogynistic and homophobic comments. In 2022, the NFL appealed to Nevada's high court after a judge in Las Vegas rejected league bids to dismiss Gruden's claim outright or to order out-of-court talks through an arbitration process that could be overseen by Goodell. The Nevada Supreme Court, in a 5-2 ruling, said that 'the arbitration clause in the NFL Constitution is unconscionable and does not apply to Gruden as a former employee.' Gruden's lawsuit alleged that Goodell and the league pressured the Raiders to fire Gruden by leaking emails containing racist, sexist and homophobic comments that Gruden sent, when he was an on-air analyst at ESPN from 2011 to 2018. Gruden resigned from the Raiders in October 2021 and sued the league a month later. The NFL declined to comment on the ruling. Gruden was Raiders head coach when the team moved in 2020 to Las Vegas from Oakland, California. He's seeking monetary damages, alleging that selective disclosure of the emails and their publication by the Wall Street Journal and New York Times ruined his career and endorsement contracts. Gruden coached the Raiders in Oakland from 1998 to 2001, then led the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for seven years, winning a Super Bowl title in 2003. He spent several years as a TV analyst for ESPN before being hired by the Raiders again in 2018. He later consulted for the New Orleans Saints in 2023. He is now a part-owner and consultant for the Nashville Kats, a team in the Arena Football One league.

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is headed back to Chicago, Illinois, this weekend (Sat., Aug. 9, 2025), for the first time in a long time. In the main event of UFC 319, UFC Middleweight champion Dricus du Plessis collides with No. 3-ranked contender Khamzat Chimaev in what should be an epic fight for as long as it lasts. It's been more than six years since the Octagon landed inside Chicago's United Center for an event, and the last time the UFC was here — UFC 238 on June 8, 2019 — it produced an awesome card with a couple of memorable fights and one of the most violent knockouts of all time. So with that, let's look back at what happened at UFC 238. That card was headlined by Henry Cejudo, who was chasing history after already holding the Flyweight title. 'Triple C' weathered an early storm from Marlon Moraes, absorbing punishing leg kicks in the opening round before completely flipping the script. By Round 3, Cejudo was in full control, overwhelming Moraes with a barrage of punches, knees, and elbows until the referee stepped in. Cejudo was crowned the new Bantamweight king and a champ-champ. In the co-main event, Valentina Shevchenko put on a flawless striking display against Jessica Eye.
