Finding the right spot to grab a bite to eat in the capital is never easy with so many options littered throughout the city.
With that in mind, two renowned Scottish chefs have covered all the bases, giving their professional opinion on which eateries they would dine in for specific occasions.
First up is Japanese entrepreneur and chef Kaori Simpson. She is the culinary heart behind Edinburgh's award-winning Harajuku Kitchen (Golden Chopsticks Best Restaurant in Scotland 2019 & 2021).
Raised in a family deeply connected to Japanese cuisine and with experience at Michelin-starred The Kitchin, Kaori masterfully blends her heritage with a passion for seasonal Scottish ingredients to create authentic and celebrated Japanese comfort food.
Harajuku Kitchen's quality and authenticity have earned it a loyal following and the distinction of being the official caterer for the Consulate General of Japan and other key organisations.

Scots offered chance to relocate to remote island with stunning beaches & incredible wildlife
ISLE BE OFF Scots offered chance to relocate to remote island with stunning beaches & incredible wildlife SCOTS looking to soak in one of the most beautiful corners of the country might finally be able to do just that thanks to a rare opportunity. With white sandy beaches, turquoise waters and incredible wildlife, life on the tiny Scottish isle of Papa Westray in Orkney sounds idyllic. 1 Papa Westray Community School is advertising for a one-day-a-week school teacher Credit: Alamy And thanks to a long-standing job vacancy, it could become a reality for someone ready to adapt to island life. Papa Westray Community School is advertising for a one-day-a-week school teacher. The tiny community school has just seven pupils in one composite class of primary one to seven pupils. The school is currently supported by staff from Westray Junior High School but is hoping to fill the position permanently. Papa Westray has a population of less than 100 with the lowest population being just 54 in the 1990s. Due to its small population and remote location the teaching post has been advertised since 2019. The island is home to the world's shortest scheduled passenger flight, with the record for the 1.7-mile trip to neighbouring island of Westray being only 53 seconds. The school, which is run by Orkney Council has performed well and was praised by education watchdogs last year. Last year The National Trust of Scotland was advertising the role of Pier Manager on Canna, a tiny island off the west coast, that's home to just 15 permanent residents. The once in a lifetime "dream job" to live and work on the island would see the the successful candidate "ensure the smooth operation and maintenance of Canna Harbour, an essential facility for the Isle of Canna community." Relocate to Spectacular Scots Island The NTS, who look after the island after it was bequeathed to them in 1981, said they were looking for a person with "marine or seafaring experience, a strong health & safety ethos, and a passion for preserving Scotland's incredible places and heritage." Based on the island of Canna the Pier Manager role will be to manage the operation and maintenance of Canna Harbour.

Alan Cumming launches summer talks with 'beers and baps' in Highlands
Nestled in his home county of Perthshire, Cumming's new lecture series, A Beer, A Bap and A Boffin, will be held at Pitlochry Festival Theatre. Cumming was elected as artistic director of the theatre in 2024. The series aims to spotlight leading experts from the Royal Society of Edinburgh, which Cumming is a member of himself. On Saturday, June 14, the series opens with James Robertson's talk, What's next for Libraries, Literature, and Creativity?, which will explore the state of culture and literature in the library sector, shedding light on the future of our libraries as AI becomes increasingly commonplace. READ MORE: Crew for Christopher Nolan's film starring Matt Damon take over Scottish castle David Field FRSE, CEO of the Royal Zoological Society Scotland, continues the series on Saturday, August 2, with a talk on how to train your wildcat. Field's lecture seeks to uncover the techniques that specialists use to prepare zoo-bred wildcats for release, whilst also discussing the possibility of bringing back Scotland's lost species. On Saturday, August 23, Professor Niahm Nic Daeid FRSE closes the talks with her lecture titled "what is forensic science and why does it matter?" and discuss the crucial use of science in criminal investigation and trial. Cumming said one of the "many surprises" at the theatre is the "explorers garden," adding: "I want to find as many reasons as possible for it to be enjoyed. That's why I thought of A Beer, A Bap and A Boffin! "As a fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, I have watched many academics mesmerise with their knowledge and rediscovered how fascinating it can be to learn about topics you'd otherwise never encounter. So, I invited some of these Boffins to do lectures in our Explorers Garden amphitheatre, and with the addition of a wee drink and a bite to eat as they extrapolate, I don't think there could be a better way to spend a summer's day! "Also, full disclosure this is both a steal and a homage to Oran Mor's brilliant A Play, A Pie and A Pint!' Alongside access to the talks, tickets include a complementary beer and a bap.
