MADANI JMKU Programmes Record Nearly RM10 Million In Sales Since 2022
KUALA LUMPUR, June 26 (Bernama) -- More than 150 series of the MADANI Cooperative and Entrepreneur Sales Programme (JMKU), held at 128 locations nationwide since 2022, have generated nearly RM10 million in sales.
Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (KUSKOP) Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick said the initiative, organised with Malaysia Cooperative Societies Commission (SKM), supports the MADANI economic framework's focus on improving people's well-being.
He added that the Vendor Capacity and Capability Development Programme (PPKV) recorded total sales of RM1.23 billion through the participation of 108 vendors.
'Last year alone, KUSKOP implemented 204 programmes that benefited close to 800,000 entrepreneurs, including micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), cooperatives, social enterprises, hawkers, and petty traders,' he said at the launch of SME Bank's Budget 2025 Initiative, attended by Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan.
Ewon also highlighted that KUSKOP had upgraded or built 98 Tamu Desa premises in Sabah and Sarawak, with a total allocation of RM19 million between last year and early this year.
He reaffirmed the ministry's commitment to driving entrepreneurship and cooperative development in line with the MADANI Economic Framework and the National Entrepreneurship Policy 2030.
On the SME Bank-led Budget 2025 Initiative, Ewon said it underlines the vital role of development financial institutions in supporting national efforts to enhance the competitiveness and resilience of local entrepreneurs.
'The launch reflects the government's strong intent to ensure every ringgit under Budget 2025 delivers tangible benefits, especially to the entrepreneurial community,' he said.
He expressed confidence that the initiative would enable more MSMEs to expand their capacity, explore new markets, and adapt to current demands, including digitalisation, sustainability, and exports.

Japan Reiterates That Higher US Auto Tariffs Are Unacceptable
FILE PHOTO: Japan's Economic Revitalization Minister Ryosei Akazawa speaks to the press upon his arrival at Haneda Airport, a day after ministerial talks on tariffs, with U.S. President Donald Trump joining the negotiators, in Tokyo, Japan, April 18, 2025. REUTERS/Issei Kato/File Photo TOKYO, June 26 (Bernama-Kyodo) -- Japan's chief negotiator on Thursday set off for another round of tariff negotiations with the United States (US), reiterating before his departure that the 25 per cent additional auto tariffs imposed by Washington remain unacceptable, Kyodo News Agency reported. Minister in charge of economic and fiscal policy Ryosei Akazawa said he still hopes to convince the United States to review the duty, especially as the 90-day pause on part of the so-called reciprocal tariffs imposed on Japan and other countries expires on July 9. The auto tariffs are "not something we can accept," Akazawa told reporters at Tokyo's Haneda Airport before leaving for Washington, referring to import taxes that have weighed heavily on Japan's large automotive industry. bootstrap slideshow The seventh round of ministerial-level tariff negotiations this week are likely to involve US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, as previous rounds have. The auto tariffs have been the key sticking point in the bilateral negotiations that began in April. The latest visit is Akazawa's first since Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba was unable to strike an agreement with US President Donald Trump over the tariffs at their summit on June 16 in Canada. The leaders agreed to have talks continue at the ministerial level. In addition to increasing the tariff rate for passenger cars to 27.5 per cent from 2.5 per cent, the Trump administration raised other sector-based and country-specific duties, in a bid to reduce the trade deficit with Japan, which Trump says primarily results from "unfair" trade practices. Under the reciprocal tariff regime, combined with a baseline rate of 10 per cent covering nearly all goods imported by the United States, Japan faces an additional country-specific tariff of 14 per cent, for a total rate of 24 per cent. To facilitate negotiations, Trump paused tariffs set above 10 per cent for 60 trading partners, including Japan, for 90 days. -- BERNAMA-KYODO

Ringgit rises against US dollar at the close on easing tensions in Middle East
KUALA LUMPUR — The ringgit ended higher against the US dollar, buoyed by the apparent ceasefire in the Israel-Iran conflict, said an economist. At 6 pm, the local note rose to 4.2410/2465 versus the greenback from Monday's close of 4.2915/2980. Bank Muamalat Malaysia Bhd chief economist Dr Mohd Afzanizam Abdul Rashid said the de-escalation also led benchmark Brent crude oil prices to retreat to US$69.56 per barrel as risks to global oil supply appear contained for now. 'Financial markets are responding with a sense of relief, and risk appetite is gradually returning. 'Still, it's early days. Investors remain cautious amid lingering uncertainties — particularly with the US tariff pause set to expire in early July,' he told Bernama. On the domestic front, Mohd Afzanizam said Malaysia's latest consumer price index (CPI) reading of 1.2 per cent reinforces the view that monetary policy remains tight, with real interest rates rising further. 'In summary, market sentiment may stay guarded in the short term, while policymakers are likely to remain vigilant in balancing growth and stability,' he added. At the closing, the ringgit traded mostly lower against a basket of major currencies. It trended lower against the Japanese yen at 2.9256/9296 from 2.9028/9074 at Monday's close, declined versus the British pound to 5.7707/7782 from 5.7437/7524, but improved against the euro to 4.9225/9289 from 4.9236/9311 previously. The local note trended higher against its ASEAN counterparts. It advanced vis-a-vis the Indonesian rupiah to 259.3/259.7 from 260.2/260.7 at yesterday's close and gained against the Philippine peso to 7.41/7.44 from 7.44/7.46. The ringgit also appreciated against the Singapore dollar to 3.3130/3178 from 3.3188/3243 and strengthened to 12.9793/13.0021 from 12.9998/13.0250 versus the Thai baht previously. — BERNAMA

Gamuda posts higher 3Q net profit, declares 10c dividend
KUALA LUMPUR: Gamuda Bhd recorded a higher net profit of RM671 million for the third quarter ended April 30, 2025 (3Q), up five per cent year-on-year, driven by stronger performance in its domestic construction projects. "Property sales grew 10 per cent to RM2.6 billion compared with RM2.3 billion sold last year, primarily driven by several quick-turnaround projects in Vietnam,' the engineering and construction group said in a statement today. During the same period, Gamuda's revenue increased by 14 per cent to RM11.5 billion from RM10 billion recorded in the corresponding period last year. The group's quarterly earnings rose five per cent to RM247 million, also supported by its domestic construction division, where earnings tripled to RM104 million compared to the same quarter last year. The board of directors has declared a second interim dividend of five sen per share, bringing the year-to-date dividend to 10 sen per share, representing a 25 per cent increase from the previous year's eight sen (adjusted following 1:1 bonus share issuance). Gamuda said its domestic operations have gained momentum, with its orderbook contributing 41 per cent of the total RM35 billion construction orderbook, representing a substantial portion of the group's overall performance. It noted that construction revenue and net profit rose by four per cent and 40 per cent, respectively, during the third quarter. Gamuda also noted that its data centre investments have begun to yield positive returns, contributing meaningfully to the engineering division's pre-tax earnings. "This development marks a significant milestone for the group's expansion strategy, positioning it well to meet growing demand for digital infrastructure,' it added. - Bernama
