Trafficked Meerkats, Lizards, and More Sent Back to Bangkok After Mumbai Airport Seizure
The consignments comprised three meerkats, three lizards, two iguanas, one skink, one four-eyed turtle, over a hundred spiders, two marmosets, and 50 albino red-eared sliders.
According to Pawan Sharma, Honorary Wildlife Warden of Thane, "As per the Wildlife Protection Act, the seized animals were temporarily kept under the care of recognised facilities for medical intervention after their interception, which were later handed over to the concerned authorities on Tuesday night for deportation to the country of origin.
The animals were first stabilised and given necessary treatment.
"
Yogesh Warkad, Deputy Director of the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau, told TOI, "Our job was limited to certain aspects. We completed the identification process and legal position of the wildlife besides animal quarantine and coordinating with the concerned authorities." He further confirmed the deportation.

The deportation process followed the new guidelines issued by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation on July 23, which reiterated regulations laid down by Animal Quarantine and Certification Services (AQCS) and the customs department regarding the immediate deportation of trafficked animals to their country of origin. Airlines through which animals are brought into the country illegally are responsible for their deportation, as per the regulations.

Kochi school receives notice from education department for punishment on latecomers
Kochi: A fresh controversy erupted after a Class V student at Cochin Public School, Thrikkakara, was allegedly forced to run multiple rounds on the school ground and was confined to a dark room for arriving late. Following complaints from parents and student organizations, general education minister V Sivankutty stated that the school had no right to take such action and sought a report from deputy directorate of education (DDE), Ernakulam, on the incident. The child's parent Rasheed Pareed told TOI that his son received the punishment for being late to school by two minutes on Thursday morning. The parent alleged he was asked to run a few times on the ground and was also asked to sit in a dark room until the parent arrived. "When I complained to school officials, they said it is the norm at the school and asked us to transfer the child from the school to another school if needed," said Pareed. The parent said such punishments routinely happen at the school and the incident affected the child's morale to continue going to the school. "He says he is not interested anymore in going to the school," said Pareed. "No teacher or management has the right to treat a child in such a manner. If a child arrives late, they can be advised not to repeat it, but locking them in a dark room in a way that affects their mental state is unacceptable," he said. Announcing an investigation, Sivankutty added that govt was taking strong measures in such matters, which led to a decline in such incidents. He suggested that lack of proper teacher training might be a contributing factor and said govt would consider training teachers in all streams. Soon after the minister's response, DDE officials inspected the school and issued notices warning that NOC would be revoked if such practices are repeated at the school. The officials said they will also send a detailed report of investigation to director general of education on Thursday. Repeated attempts by TOI to contact the school went unanswered. Man gets 20 years jail for raping minor girl
Koppal: The additional district and sessions judge and the fast track court ( Pocso ) of Koppal sentenced Rajasab Hallikeri of Alavandi village in Koppal taluk to 20 years' imprisonment for abducting and raping a minor girl from Scheduled Tribe community. The verdict said the accused lured the girl from his village by professing love and threatened to die if she did not reciprocate his feelings. Upon learning about this, the victim's family cautioned Rajasab, but he ignored their warnings. On the evening of Jan 31, 2022, the accused called the girl to a spot near the college in Alavandi and persuaded her to accompany him to a distant place to get married. Subsequently, he took her to Talakal village in Yelburga taluk, where he tied a mangalsutra around the girl's neck as a symbol of their marriage at a dargah there. Subsequently, they moved from one place to another. Regional manager of pvt firm click on fraudulent link, loses 1L
Pune: A regional manager (45) of a Bengaluru-based medicine company posted in Maharashtra was duped of Rs1 lakh after he clicked on a fraudulent link in a bid to seek police help after a minor accident recently. He registered a complaint with the Hadapsar police on Aug 12. Senior inspector Sanjay Mogle of Hadapsar police on Thuesday said, "the regional manager called 'Dial 112'. The Solapur rural police control room received the call.
