New Delhi: Saudi Arabia's Sleeping Prince Al-Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal has died at the age of 36. In 2005, he was once involved in a car accident in London. Since then, he was in a coma for 20 years. During that time, he suffered internal bleeding and brain haemorrhage. The prince was the son of Prince Khalid bin Talal, a senior member of the Saudi Arabian royal family, and the nephew of billionaire Prince Al Waleed bin Talal. He was born in 1990. His family has confirmed this sad news. Let's know why he was known as the Sleeping Prince. What happened to the prince?
Prince Al-Waleed bin Khaled's life changed forever in 2005, when he suffered a serious brain injury in a terrible car accident at the age of 15. At that time, he was studying at a military academy in London, which was supposed to be the beginning of his bright and promising future. But the time after the accident became a two-decade-long battle between life and death for the prince. Despite the world's best medical care and countless efforts by American, Spanish and Saudi experts, Prince Al-Waleed remained in a coma. He occasionally made small movements, which kept his family's hopes alive. Why did his father not give up hope?
During this difficult time, his father Prince Khalid bin Talal Al Saud prayed to God with selfless love and unwavering faith. He never left his son's side and always opposed the removal of the life support system. He turned his palace into a place of prayer and often posted emotional messages and recitations of the Quran on social media. Every small sign of the sleeping prince gave the family hope that maybe one day their beloved son would open his eyes again. But this never happened, and the sleeping prince remained in a coma for 20 years until his death on July 19, 2025. Who broke the news?
His father gave this information on social media and shared a verse from the Quran and wrote, 'O peaceful soul, return to your Lord, who is pleased with you. Join his righteous servants and enter his paradise'. His funeral prayers were offered on Sunday, 20 July 2025. Also, condolence meetings will be held on three days Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, so that people can remember him for the last time.

Admissions delayed, students go slow on engineering seats

Pune: Engineering admissions in Maharashtra continue to struggle with poor student response, as there were few confirmed admissions compared to the allotted seats at the end of the first two rounds of the centralised admission process (CAP). Educators attributed the weak turnout to delayed admission schedules. "This delay in the admissions calendar has a cascading effect. By the time engineering admissions move to later rounds, many students have already committed to other courses or institutions where the academic year has started on time. Students don't want to risk losing an entire semester waiting," Sunil Joshi, a retired senior academician from Savitribai Phule Pune University, said. The probability of securing a better college in the later rounds further worsened the numbers, CET cell officials said. In the first round, of the 1.4 lakh students allotted seats, 35,000 (22%) confirmed admissions. In the second round, out of 1.6 lakh students, 30,000 (18%) confirmed. Directorate of Technical Education tweaked rules this year to reduce delays. In the first round, students who had been allotted their first preference (15,852 students) were required to confirm their admission, while in the second round, students who had been allotted any of their top three choices (14,016 students) had no option but to accept. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Yet, the changes failed to have a significant impact. CET offical said, "In the coming rounds, the chances will reduce, and we will surely see improved admissions. These four traits can secure your spot at top US colleges

Every August, a familiar ritual unfolds in American households: High school seniors open the Common Application, brimming with equal parts excitement and dread. The prompts look deceptively straightforward: A list of activities, a personal essay, and a few test scores, but lurking behind these boxes and word limits is the question that keeps families awake at night: What are colleges truly looking for? For years, myths have clouded this process. Many students believe a clever essay can overshadow weak grades or that a resume packed with extracurriculars guarantees entry into an elite university. Seasoned admissions professionals insist otherwise. The truth is, selective institutions weigh applications against four enduring criteria, qualities that shape not just who gets admitted, but who will thrive once on campus. Intellectual vitality At the heart of admissions lies a simple query: Does this student love to learn? Beyond GPAs and test scores, institutions seek evidence of curiosity and intellectual drive. Stanford University's admissions office, for instance, explicitly highlights its desire to see 'commitment, dedication, and genuine interest in expanding intellectual horizons.' Such vitality can surface in advanced coursework, independent projects, or the spark that teachers describe in recommendation letters. Contribution to community Colleges are not merely filling classrooms; they are building communities. Admissions officers ask: How will this applicant add value to campus life? Contribution is not limited to holding office in student government or founding a non-profit. It can be quieter but equally significant — mentoring younger peers, sustaining a club through difficult years, or volunteering consistently in local initiatives. Impact, not flashiness, carries weight. Authenticity A cohesive narrative matters. Admissions officers are adept at spotting when an application has been over-engineered to impress. What they want instead is authenticity: a voice that feels consistent across essays, activities, and recommendations. An applicant who communicates self-awareness and coherence — someone who knows their own values and trajectory — stands out more than the one trying to be everything at once. Fitness Finally, colleges ask themselves: Will this student thrive here? Fitness goes beyond academic ability. It encompasses whether an applicant's goals, personality, and ambitions align with what the institution offers. Successful applicants demonstrate specificity in their supplemental essays — referencing unique courses, faculty, or traditions that resonate with them. Generic statements rarely persuade. The weight of each piece While admissions are holistic, not all parts of the application are equal. Strong grades and rigorous coursework remain the foundation; without them, even the most compelling essay cannot secure admission. Yet essays, recommendations, and extracurriculars provide the texture that reveals a student's intellectual energy, character, and readiness for the campus community. Final word For students entering this year's admissions cycle, the message is clear: colleges are not searching for perfection, but for people. Demonstrating intellectual curiosity, a spirit of contribution, authenticity, and thoughtful fit matters far more than polishing every line of a resume. In the end, the strongest applications are those that reflect not what applicants think admissions officers want to hear, but who they genuinely are — and who they aspire to become.
