The utility back with the Hamilton-based Chiefs was one of four uncapped players included in Scott Robertson's Championship squad. The phone call from Robertson informing him of his selection had come as a massive surprise.
Carter was rushing to get things together for the squad's assembly and departure when he realized the family dog had intercepted his passport.
'I got my passport out to take a photo to send to the (team) manager and I just left it on my bedside table,' Carter said. 'My partner went to the gym and left my dog home alone and it's gone down the hallway, jumped on the bed and just chewed up the passport and my teeth aligners.
'It was a bit of a shambles yesterday. I was trying to get an emergency one but I think it's all (sorted) now. I thought it would happen to me, something like that, so no point getting stressed about it.'
The All Blacks squad leaves Friday to play Argentina in Cordoba on Aug. 17 and Buenos Aires a week later in the first two rounds of the Rugby Championship which also includes Australia and South Africa.

Kyler Murray looked good with big mistake in preseason opener
Murray and the starting offense moved well but could not find the end zone in two possessions. Most of the Arizona Cardinals' starting offense played just over a quarter in their preseason opener against the Kansas City Chiefs. That included quarterback Kyler Murray. The offense had two possessions and scored three points. For Murray, it was both a good performance but had one glaring negative. He ran operations very well. The offense moved the ball, going eight plays in the first drive and 10 on the second. Murray completed 7-of-8 passes for 96 yards. He completed passes to Marvin Harrison Jr., Trey McBride, Zay Jones, Michael Wilson, Trey Benson and two to Greg Dortch. The problem was he threw a red-zone interception. Neither drive ended with a touchdown. He was picked off and then they kicked a field goal. It was uncertain what he saw on the interception. He seemed to throw it right to Chiefs safety Jaden Hicks. Harrison was farther down the field and McBride was shorter but at the sideline. Now, teams do not game plan for opponents in the preseason, so we will see what is said about the play. For those looking to see that the offense can move, it was a positive. For those looking for finished drives and consistency, this performance did nothing to quell concerns.
