Police team to launch search in 2016 Sturbridge cold case
The Sturbridge Police Department said that on September 16, 2016, officers received a domestic dispute report in the area of 35 Vinton Road. Holland officers and state troopers also arrived at the location for assistance.
Connecticut woman arrested after hitting state police cruisers with car
The suspect, identified as Brent Young of Sturbridge (who was 42 at the time), allegedly assaulted his girlfriend and stabbed his 16-year-old son. The incident reportedly began in the home and extended into the lawn. Young then allegedly stabbed himself in the neck and ran into the woods behind the house.
State troopers spent three days searching for Young, using all modern technology available at the time, such as Air Wing, Mounted Units, K-9 Units, and Drone Units. However, Young was never found.
Sturbridge Police said that technology advancements in mapping software can now provide a more detailed analysis of the area and determine where Young may have escaped.
The department said that the search is focused on locating human remains rather than a live individual, due to the date of the case and the nature of the injuries Young sustained.
Last Friday, Sturbridge Police Chief Earl Dessert announced that on March 21, members of Sturbridge Police will be conducting a grid search in the Vinton Road area. The Massachusetts State Police Special Emergency Response Team, Mass. Search and Rescue K-9 Teams, CEMLEC Drone Units, and the Sturbridge Community Emergency Response Team will also be assisting the investigation.
Residents in the area should expect heavy police presence in the areas of Old Sturbridge Village Access Road, Vinton Road Leadmine Road, and Haynes Street from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
If you have any information regarding the case or Young's whereabouts, please contact 508-347-2525 ext. 315.

Woman arrested after allegedly disturbing Pompano Beach sea turtle nest, BSO says
A woman was arrested Sunday after being caught on camera allegedly disturbing a protected sea turtle nest in Pompano Beach, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office. The incident comes during the height of South Florida's turtle nesting season, a critical time when volunteers work to ensure hatchlings safely reach the ocean. Every night, Doug Young and about two dozen South Florida Audubon Society volunteers walk up and down the beach, checking on nests and assisting hatchlings. "They get disoriented because of white light. They are going west, north, and south instead of east to the ocean," Young said. Sea turtle nesting season typically runs through October, when female turtles come ashore, dig holes and lay hundreds of eggs in the sand. The eggs hatch in about two months, and artificial lighting near beaches can often confuse the hatchlings' path to the water. According to BSO, Misty Dawn Smith was arrested near the 700 block of North Ocean Boulevard. "Deputies made contact with several unhoused individuals… one was caught on camera disturbing a sea turtle nest," the agency said in a statement. "She faces one count of destroying, selling, or molesting turtle eggs or nests. Smith also faces charges for a warrant out of Kentucky." There are currently 2,777 turtle nests on Broward County beaches, including 2,278 loggerheads, 446 greens and 53 leatherbacks. "The main thing is to be respectful of these creatures who've been around longer than we have," Young said.

At about 1:35 p.m. Saturday, there were multiple 911 calls reporting a crash on Interstate 195 in Dartmouth near mile marker 19.4 near the Reed Road exit. A 2006 gray Chevy Equinox was the only car involved. Both teens had been ejected from the SUV and the crash dislodged the SUV's engine. They were taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead a short time later. The crash is being investigated by the Massachusetts State Police along with Troopers assigned to the Bristol County District Attorney's Office. But, officials said, it is not deemed suspicious. Song Young-kyu, South Korean movie and TV star, found dead at 55: Reports
Song Young-kyu, a South Korean actor best known for his role as Chief Choi in 2019's South Korean box office hit "Extreme Job," has reportedly died. He was 55. An acquaintance found Young-kyu unresponsive inside a parked car the morning of Aug. 4, Variety and South Korean publication Yonhap News report. South Korean authorities do not suspect foul play and no suicide note was found, according to the outlets. Young-kyu, who was found south of Seoul in the city of Yongin, had recently been the subject of scandal when he was caught in a drunk driving incident in the same city in June, Deadline and Variety reported. The incident led to his removal from several mid-project stage and television productions. A staple in South Korean cinema, Young-kyu made his acting debut in 1994, launching a robust career that spanned both film and TV. Appearing in popular series like 2022's "Narco-Saints," a popular Korean Netflix original series, and Disney+'s "Big Bet," he was a reliable supporting actor, bringing both experience and consistency. Young-kyu was best known, though, for his role as Chief Choi in the action-comedy blockbuster "Extreme Job." In it, he appears as the head of a detective squad investigating narcotics on the low and running a fried chicken restaurant as a front. He appeared in the film alongside actors Ryu Seung-ryong, Lee Hanee and Jin Seon-kyu. It was a major box office success in the country and introduced a wider set of audiences to Youn-kyu's steady and masterful onscreen presence.
