Steam users are review bombing the Borderlands games following Take-Two's new user agreement: "I don't feel comfortable with the terms of service"

Ahead of Borderlands 4, fans of the action RPG series from Gearbox Software are rallying online to share their thoughts on Take-Two Interactive's new terms of service.
As pointed out by a player in a recent Reddit thread, the Borderlands games are currently facing a review bomb of sorts on Steam. The debacle boils down to Take-Two's recently updated user agreement, which is outlined on the holding company's website. "People are review bombing the entire Borderlands series because of EULA changes that can apparently gain root-level access to your machine under the guise of 'anti-cheat' software."
The poster continues, explaining how fans are upset at the prospect of Take-Two collecting "personal info like accounts, passwords, telephone numbers, etc." One look at the Steam pages for each of the three main Borderlands entries serves as proof that players are indeed upset about the new terms of service. Under the first game's recent reviews, which have dropped to "Mixed," people share their concerns about the user agreement.

"I don't feel comfortable with the terms of service," writes one such fan. Another simply calls the game "spyware" following the integration of Take-Two's new terms of service. The page for Borderlands 2 also shows "Mixed" reviews, with players highlighting their worries over the user agreement and how they're afraid it affects their privacy online: "This collects usernames and passwords, IP locations and browser history data."
Recent Borderlands 3 reviews don't look much better, either. One fan exclaims that "recent EULA changes seem insane," while others describe how now "mods are a bannable offense" and any "display of cheats/exploits is bannable" despite the game being largely single-player/co-op rather than an online experience where anti-cheat measures make sense. Elsewhere, people cite the legal implications of Take-Two's new user agreement.
Not everyone is convinced the changes spell the end of Borderlands as fans know and love it, however. As seen on the Reddit post covering the review bombing, some think players are "overreacting" currently: "People are overreacting for sure. The EULA is hardly any different than the one before it all the way back in 2018." Just as the games' reviews are now "Mixed" on Steam, then, so are the community's opinions on the terms of service.

How to watch Sony's PlayStation State of Play at Summer Game Fest

Sony is throwing its own party on Wednesday, June 4 at 5PM ET in the form of a State of Play. The stream will showcase "must-play" PS5 games from developers based around the world and you can watch it on on YouTube or Twitch. Sony hasn't given any hints as to what it will show off as yet, but it'll surely be worth checking out the stream. Wednesday's event will be Sony's third State of Play of the year. The first was in February, which included the reveal of the very tasty-sounding Soros from Returnal studio Housemarque, a PS5 remaster of Days Gone and a release date for Borderlands 4 . In April, the company hosted a brief State of Play entirely focused on Borderlands 4 where it showed off gameplay and some new multiplayer mechanics. With this State of Play, Sony is padding out a packed SGF schedule that includes what is routinely Xbox's biggest showcase of the year on Sunday, June 8. And then there's also the little matter of the Nintendo Switch 2's arrival on June 5. It's shaping up to be a fun, if very busy, week.

The gorgeous indie game Death Howl will have a new demo on June 9
A deck-building game with soulslike elements is an odd genre mashup, to say the least. But that's what the three-person Danish studio The Outer Zone is creating with Death Howl . The second demo for the indie PC title launches next week on Steam. The unusual blend of genres isn't the game's only hallmark. Death Howl also has a gorgeous art style and music to match its rich themes. You play as Ro, a hunter from a small tribe, who is grieving her son's death. Mystical voices beckon her toward a spirit realm as she tries to bring him back. Ro's adventure leads her on a journey of "love, loss and the slow path toward acceptance." The game's deck-based combat will unlock various melee and ranged spell attacks. As you progress, you'll craft cards built around your preferred tactical style. Meanwhile, shamanic totems will enhance your deck and buff up your strikes. The Outer Zone / 11 Bit Studios What makes it soulslike, besides being hard? Publisher 11 Bit Studios offered some insight on Reddit. "Initially, we thought about a different label for Death Howl ," the publisher wrote. "But as we played it more and brought in random testers, we noticed something surprising. The game, despite not being an action RPG, does feel like a soulslike. It evoked emotions similar to what you experience in a soulslike." Meanwhile, the game's difficulty reveals itself most in boss battles and side quests. Death Howl doesn't arrive until sometime later this year. But the second demo will be playable from June 9 to 16. Head to the game's Steam page to check it out. Reddit will let you hide posts, comments and NSFW activity from your public profile
Reddit will now allow its users to do something it never before has permitted: to selectively "curate" their public-facing profiles by hiding some of their posting and commenting activity from other users. Up to now, Reddit has included users' full commenting and posting activity in profiles. So while most users are anonymous, others could easily check out their post history and see what communities they're active in. The feature, which many users see as a key part of Reddit's openness, has helped Redditors ferret out trolling, lying and numerous other types of bad (or merely embarrassing ) behavior on the platform. With the update, however, Reddit users will be able to "curate" their profile. The additional control will allow people to hide all their public posts and comments from their profile or hide public posts and comments in specific subreddits from their profiles. There is also a "NSFW" toggle, which would hide posts and comments in NSFW subreddits. The setting won't hide a comment or post in the subreddit where it originally appeared, but it won't be visible on a user's profile. The company notes that there will be some carveouts to these settings for moderators, who may rely on users' past activity to suss out rule-breakers or decide who is eligible to join their community. "If you post, comment, send modmail, request to be an approved poster, or request to join a private subreddit, that mod team will have access to your full profile content history for 28 days after the interaction – regardless of your settings," Reddit says in an FAQ. Despite that concession, many Redditors aren't exactly happy about the changes, which could alter some of the core dynamics of the platform. "This seems like it's going to lead to bad actors being able to more easily hide their behavior from the average user," one of the most-upvoted comments on Reddit's post says. "Unless you're a mod, you won't be able to see that they're posting inflammatory misinformation across a dozen different subs, for instance." Others have noted the feature also means that creating an alt or throwaway account is somewhat less necessary, as it's easier to hide posts you don't want linked to your presence on the app. While that may be an added convenience for some, it also raises questions about the company's approach to making new accounts. During the company's most recent earnings call, CEO Steve Huffman suggested that Reddit was considering ways to "evolve" its "historically permissive account creation" process. Huffman didn't elaborate on what that may look like, but said changes would be necessary to fight AI-powered "abuse or manipulation" of the platform.
