ALOR SETAR, Aug 21 (Bernama) — The daring actions of the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency's (MMEA) Special Task and Rescue Team (STAR Team) is expected to be the main attraction at the Ministry of Home Affairs' (KDN) "Sua Mesra" Program, which will take place this Saturday at Dataran Bandar Baharu.
According to a statement from MMEA's Corporate Communications Unit, during the demonstration, the public will have the opportunity to witness the efficiency of the STAR Team as they perform a jump from the agency's AS365N3 Dauphin helicopter into the Bandar Baharu river, before boarding waiting jet skis on the water's surface.
"Also showcased will be a dramatic rescue mission by the rescue swimmer team, who will carry out a water rescue using the same aircraft. In addition to the MMEA's demonstration, visitors will also enjoy a variety of people-friendly services brought by agencies under the KDN," the statement said.
Among the highlights will be the offer of a compound rate reduction for Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) traffic summonses, services from Malaysian Immigration Department counters, the MEKAR bus facility from the National Registration Department (JPN), and advice on Scam Alert from the PDRM.
The local community also has the chance to participate in various activities that are close to daily life, such as the 'Jom Exchange Al-Quran' (Let's Exchange the Quran) initiative, sales of products from the Malaysian Prison Department and AADK, free haircuts by Rela officers, and a lively performance by the MMEA band.
"The KDN Sua Mesra program was organised not just to be a bridge to strengthen the relationship between the people and national security agencies but also to prove the government's continuous efforts to serve the community through direct involvement in the field," it said.
The KDN Sua Mesra program in Bandar Baharu is expected to be officiated by the Minister of Home Affairs, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, and will be attended by the KDN Secretary-General, Datuk Awang Alik Jeman, as well as the heads of departments under the ministry.
The program, which will take place from 8 am to 5 pm, is open to all, and admission is free.

Videos of suspected RMAF F/A-18 Hornet crash in Kuantan go viral

KUALA LUMPUR: Videos and images of what were believed to be a crash involving a Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) F/A-18 Hornet fighter jet in Kuantan tonight, have gone viral. One 29-second video, widely circulating on social media, shows a fighter jet taking off from the runway, believed to be at the Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Airport. However, at the video's 17-second mark, a bright flash is seen, just as the aircraft takes off. Sparks are also seen trailing from the jet before it is engulfed in flames. The New Straits Times has reached out to the authorities to verify the authenticity of the video. Social media was also awash with videos from Kuantan residents, who shared footage of orange flames believed to be from the explosion, lighting up the night sky. RMAF chief General Datuk Seri Muhammad Norazlan Aris earlier confirmed that there was an incident involving one of its F/A-18 Hornet fighter jets at the Kuantan airbase. "Affirm, there was an incident involving the aircraft," he said when contacted. RMAF, in a statement, said the incident occurred at 9.05pm.

Parti KDM stands firm after president's court defeat, gears up for solo battle

Priscella KOTA KINABALU (Aug 21): Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (Parti KDM), remains steadfast in its struggle despite the recent court's decision not being in favour of its president Datuk Peter Anthony, said its acting president, Priscella Peter. In a press statement on Thursday, Priscella said the court ruling has not dampened their spirits, in fact, it has only fuelled their determination to make a breakthrough in the upcoming 17th Sabah State Election (PRN17) . 'Honestly, we are disappointed with the court's decision. We are disappointed because new evidence, namely a police report which clearly shows that the president was wronged, was not taken into consideration. 'Despite our disappointment, we respect and accept the court's ruling. But let me be clear, this will not weaken us. Our struggle continues. We will not retreat, not even an inch,' she said. On Wednesday, Peter failed in his bid to review and overturn his conviction and sentence for falsifying documents related to a maintenance and service contract at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) back in 2014. As a result, the conviction, along with the three-year jail term and RM50,000 fine imposed by the Sessions Court, and later upheld by both the High Court and Court of Appeal, remains in place. Meanwhile, Priscella, who also serves as the party's deputy president, reiterated that Parti KDM will go solo in the upcoming PRN17. She said the party is fully prepared to take on any opponents, especially the ruling Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition. 'KDM is steadily gaining traction among the people of Sabah. Everywhere we go, the response to our programmes has been overwhelming. 'More than that, many leaders have started to reach out to us. They are beginning to believe in the KDM struggle and are confident that this party will create an upset that could change the political landscape in Sabah. 'We are also confident that the GRS-led government will fall in PRN17. Just listen to the voices of the people in Sabah, they are speaking louder by the day,' she added.
