Prime Minister Lawrence Wong said every Member of Parliament from the ruling People's Action Party must uphold rigorous standards in both their public and private lives and should never compromise them. In a letter on the rules of prudence, typically issued after each General Election, the prime minister also urged them to be "shrewd" in assessing the motives of those who seek close ties. Psychology student Georgina Dobson wins Mediacorp 987 STAR 2025
SINGAPORE: Georgina Pattarida Dobson, who's actually in her final year studying psychology at Temasek Polytechnic, just won Mediacorp's 987 STAR 2025 competition, as reported by CNA. None other than the super familiar voices of Sonia Chew and Joakim Gomez from 987 FM. Discover fresh new talent And the whole idea, just like it was for previous winners who've become popular radio personalities like Ann Nicole, Kimberly Wang, and Sonia Chew herself, is to discover fresh new talent and give them a launchpad into the entertainment world. On Saturday, the finale was held live at 313@Somerset, where the final four competed in a set of tasks intended to highlight their charisma, spontaneity, singing ability, and stage presence. In the Wheel of Flavours competition, for instance, each competitor rotated a wheel with eight different Fisherman's Friend flavours. A 'would you rather' question was revealed for each flavour, and the finalists were challenged to answer with confidence, humour, and inventiveness. Captivating dialogues In an additional job that assessed their hosting abilities, from clever openings to captivating dialogues and rapport-building, each competitor was required to conduct live interviews with local musicians WhyLucas and Shazza, showcasing their capacity to engage both the performers and the audience. The panel of judges for all the challenges included some pretty big names: Doreen Neo, who's the Chief Talent Officer at Mediacorp; Vernon A and Justin Ang, who you probably know as The Muttons from Mediacorp Class 95; Janice Lim, the Program Director for Mediacorp 987; and even the local celeb Xiao Ming from SGAG! Mediacorp also mentioned in their announcement on Saturday night that the judges were looking at a few key things when deciding who would win. They were checking out how the contestants sounded, how creative and original they were, and how well they connected with the audience. It sounds like the judges really connected with how genuine and graceful Dobson was, which is why they picked her as the Mediacorp 987 STAR 2025. And Simone Lum, who's in charge at Mediacorp in growth and audio, was absolutely thrilled for her. She said Dobson's performance was just incredible and totally captured what it means to be a Mediacorp 987 STAR – being imaginative, staying true to yourself, and really connecting with the listeners. 'Additionally, we are really proud of each and every finalist! Broken hand no bar as Mo'unga scoops another Japan club title
TOKYO :Former All Black flyhalf Richie Mo'unga fired Brave Lupus Tokyo to back-to-back Japan Rugby League One titles with an 18-13 win over Kubota Spears at the weekend, afterwards revealing that he had played with a fractured hand. The 31-year-old playmaker suffered the injury in the semi-final against Kobe Steelers and did not train all week but scored a try and kicked eight points in a Player of the Match performance on Sunday. "I broke my hand against Kobe," Mo'unga explained after adding a second Japanese title to the seven successive Super Rugby titles he won as a Canterbury Crusader. "This is the third time I've broken this hand. I knew it wasn't impossible to play. I really wanted to play and be a part of something special. "There's a lot of relief. I'm so proud of the team and our efforts. To win this competition again is really special." Brave Lupus coach Todd Blackadder, who handed Mo'unga his Crusaders debut in 2016, said he had been uncertain whether his flyhalf would be able to play. "Richie's hand wasn't great but it shows how tough he is," said the former All Blacks lock. "He turned up and played very well. He's so committed and what a player he is." After the final played out in front of 50,009 fans at Tokyo's National Stadium, Mo'unga paid tribute to Brave Lupus skipper Michael Leitch, who finished the season as the league's top tackler. "I'm just in awe of what he does for this club, and the man that he is, and what he stands for," he said of the 36-year-old former Japan captain. "I speak on behalf of a lot of foreigners that come to (the club), he just makes life so much easier for us, he's like a big brother. Cambodia to file complaint with ICJ over Thai border dispute
PHNOM PENH: Cambodia will file a complaint with the International Court of Justice (ICJ) over border disputes with Thailand, Prime Minister Hun Manet said on Monday (Jun 2), after a Cambodian soldier was killed in a recent frontier clash. "Cambodia hopes that the Thai side will agree with Cambodia to jointly bring these issues to the International Court of Justice ... to prevent armed confrontation again over border uncertainty," Hun Manet said during a meeting between MPs and senators. Military clashes between the Southeast Asian neighbours erupted in 2008 and have led to several years of sporadic violence, resulting in at least 28 deaths. The most recent occurred on Wednesday, when a Cambodian soldier was killed in a location known as the Emerald Triangle - a joint border area between Cambodia, Thailand and Laos. The day after, Cambodia's foreign ministry sent a letter to the Thai embassy in Phnom Penh demanding "an immediate and thorough investigation" into the "unprovoked attack". Describing the incident as "a violation of Cambodian sovereignty", Phnom Penh said it remained committed to resolving the issue through "peaceful and diplomatic avenues". Prime Minister Hun Manet said that even if the Thai side did not agree on bringing the issue to the ICJ, Cambodia would still file the complaint. He added that the border dispute was being "incited by small extremist groups in both countries", which could lead to further clashes. Thailand's ministry of foreign affairs did not immediately respond to a request for comment from AFP. Cambodia's military had said they were attacked first in Wednesday's incident, while the Thai side said their soldiers were responding to gunshots. The Thai and Cambodian militaries met the following day, agreeing to ease tensions. Thailand says a Joint Boundary Committee will meet in the next two weeks to resolve the issue. The Emerald Triangle is among the areas that will be named in the ICJ complaint, Hun Manet said. Another is Ta Moan Thom Temple, the backdrop for a video posted on social media earlier this year showing a woman singing a patriotic Khmer song which led to Bangkok lodging a formal protest to Phnom Penh. Cambodia and Thailand have long been at odds over their more than 800km-long border, which was largely drawn during the French occupation of Indochina. The 2008 military clashes erupted over a patch of land next to Preah Vihear Temple, a 900-year-old structure near their shared border.
