Bridges submerged, boats on roads: Heavy rain hits normal life across MP

Time of India15 hours ago
Bhopal: Heavy rainfall over the past 24 hours has thrown normal life out of gear in parts of Madhya Pradesh. Several bridges, roads, ghats, and low-lying areas are submerged, severely affecting normal life in the town.
The situation remained worst, to say the least, in Vindhya region.
At Chitrakoot town in Satna district, a boat was seen moving at the Lanka trisection on Saturday morning, highlighting the alarming rise in water levels of the Mandakini river following continuous heavy rainfall.
In Maihar town, several areas remained inundated, and a portion of the boundary wall of the newly built Rewa airport also collapsed.
In Chitrakoot, a swollen river encroached upon areas near Ramghat and Jankighat, prompting the local administration to issue warnings and restrict public movement near the banks.
Several shops and makeshift structures were flooded, while residents living close to the river were advised to move to safer locations.
"Around 200 pilgrims who had came to Chitrakoot were rescued. Food arrangements were made for most of them. Around 50 shopkeepers were also rescued," SDM Majhgawan, AP Dwivedi, told TOI.
In other districts of Vindhya, Maihar remained affected as waterlogging was reported from several areas of the town.

In Rewa, waterlogging and inundation were reported from the low-lying areas, including the house of Gurh MLA Nagendra Singh. However, it did not rain much on Saturday, bringing a respite. The situation would have been worse if it rained in Rewa on Saturday too, said sources.
In Mauganj, the rivers and nullahs remained overflooded, and commutation in several rural areas was hit.
