Pebble smartwatches are making a return; here's what to expect
When the watch was first announced in March, it carried the names Core 2 Duo and Core Time 2. Migicovsky says the company has since regained the Pebble trademark, meaning the devices will now launch under the Pebble name.
The final design, revealed on August 13, shows minor visual tweaks alongside a few notable additions. According to Migicovsky's blog post, the Pebble Time 2 will come in four colourways — still to be decided — with customers invited to share their preferences.
New features include a compass sensor, screw-mounted back cover, a second microphone for noise cancellation, and a multi-coloured RGB LED backlight. The watch will also take inspiration from the Pebble Time Steel, featuring a full stainless-steel body and stainless-steel buttons.
Core specifications remain unchanged from earlier previews. The watch will offer a 1.5-inch 64 e-paper colour display, a touch screen, and a quick-release 22 mm watch strap, with a flat hardened glass lens, a claimed battery life that should last you 30 days, a speaker, a linear motor for vibration, and some resistance to water and dust that is not yet determined. To monitor your health, it will have step and sleep tracking and a heart monitor. And it will pair with a smartphone via Bluetooth, enabling it to connect to the internet, control music on your phone, and show notifications.
The watch is available for pre-order; the Pebble Time 2 will cost $225. The Core 2 Duo preorderers can upgrade to the Pebble Time 2 while holding onto their spot in the queue, the company added.
