Pebble Time 2 : The Comeback Story That's Redefining Wearables

What if the smartwatch you've been waiting for isn't just another gadget, but a revival of a beloved classic? The Pebble Time 2, a name that resonates with nostalgia and innovation, has officially been revealed, and it's not here to blend in. With its sleek, modern design and a nod to the original Pebble's charm, this smartwatch is more than an upgrade—it's a statement. At a time when wearables often prioritize flashy features over practicality, the Pebble Time 2 dares to redefine the balance between timeless simplicity and innovative technology. Could this be the smartwatch that finally bridges the gap between form, function, and sentiment? Eric Migicovsky takes you through its design and features. This revelation promises to uncover a wealth of thoughtful updates and design refinements that make the Pebble Time 2 stand out in a crowded market. From its upgraded ePaper color display, which ensures crystal-clear readability in any light, to its customizable backlight for a truly personal touch, every detail seems crafted with the user in mind. But this is just the beginning. What other surprises does the Pebble Time 2 hold, and how does it honor its roots while pushing the boundaries of modern wearables? As we explore its features and philosophy, you might just find yourself rethinking what a smartwatch can—and should—be. Pebble Time 2 Overview Reviving the Pebble Name and Redefining Design The Pebble trademark has been reclaimed, allowing the iconic name to return to the forefront of wearable technology. With this revival comes a significant reimagining of the smartwatch's design. The Pebble Time 2 features a more compact and refined profile, characterized by reduced bezels and rounded edges that give it a modern, polished appearance. Its stainless steel body, constructed from durable 316-grade material, ensures both longevity and a premium tactile experience. Several key design enhancements elevate the Pebble Time 2's usability and appeal. A flat glass lens minimizes reflections, improving visibility in various lighting conditions. The inclusion of knurled metal buttons enhances tactile feedback, making navigation more intuitive and satisfying. Additionally, the shorter lug-to-lug length ensures a comfortable fit for wrists of all sizes, making it an ideal choice for daily wear. These thoughtful updates reflect a commitment to both functionality and style. Enhanced Display with Customizable Backlight One of the standout features of the Pebble Time 2 is its upgraded ePaper color display. The larger screen delivers vibrant colors, deeper contrast, and improved readability, even under direct sunlight. Whether you're checking notifications, tracking fitness metrics, or reading messages, the display ensures clarity and ease of use in any environment. To further enhance usability, the Pebble Time 2 introduces an RGB backlight. This feature allows users to customize the backlight color to suit their preferences, offering a personalized experience. Softer tones can be selected for nighttime use, reducing eye strain and improving comfort during evening hours. This combination of advanced display technology and customizable lighting underscores the Pebble Time 2's focus on user-centric design. Pebble Time 2 Design Watch this video on YouTube. Advanced Hardware and Practical Features At the core of the Pebble Time 2 is the new SiFli chip, which powers the proprietary PebbleOS. This hardware upgrade ensures seamless performance, allowing smooth operation across a wide range of apps and features. The inclusion of a compass chip, while catering to a niche audience, adds valuable functionality for users who prioritize navigation tools in their smartwatch. The Pebble Time 2 also supports standard 22mm quick-release straps, allowing users to easily swap bands for a personalized look. This compatibility with existing Pebble straps ensures convenience while maintaining the flexibility to adapt the watch's style to different occasions. These practical features highlight the Pebble Time 2's versatility and attention to detail. Color Options and Exceptional Battery Life The Pebble Time 2 is expected to launch in four potential color options: silver, black, blue, and red. These choices strike a balance between timeless elegance and bold aesthetics, offering something for every preference. Final color decisions will be influenced by user surveys, reflecting the brand's commitment to engaging with its community. Battery life remains a hallmark of the Pebble brand, and the Pebble Time 2 continues this tradition with impressive results. Capable of lasting up to 30 days on a single charge, it outperforms many competitors in the smartwatch market. This extended battery life eliminates the inconvenience of frequent recharging, making sure the Pebble Time 2 is a reliable companion for daily use. Development Milestones and Future Prospects The Pebble Time 2 has undergone extensive refinement throughout its development process. Initially conceived as a blocky prototype, the design has evolved into a sleek and modern smartwatch inspired by a 2016 concept. The project is currently in the engineering verification testing (EVT) phase, a critical step to ensure the device meets rigorous performance and durability standards. Following this phase, the watch will progress to design and production testing, bringing it closer to availability for consumers. As the Pebble Time 2 nears production, it represents a significant step forward for the brand. By combining its legacy with modern advancements, the Pebble Time 2 reaffirms Pebble's place in the wearable technology market. Its thoughtful design, enhanced display, customizable features, and exceptional battery life make it a compelling option for both long-time Pebble fans and newcomers alike. Pebble Watch 2's final design has been revealed — and it looks like the anti-Apple Watch

Step back in time 10 years, and Tom's Guide called the Pebble Time Round the "most beautiful smartwatch." But watch companies know better than anyone time waits for no man, and after Pebble was sold to Fitbit, the brand seemed dead, buried and destined to be replaced by Apple Watches, Fitbits and Garmins. But, like the $89 Casio Baby-G strapped to the wrist of my colleague Dan, what's old is new again. We knew Pebble was coming back, but now founder Eric Migicovsky has given us our first look at the final design of the upcoming Pebble Time 2. The watch is already up for pre-order for $225 at Pebble's online store and brings with it a 1.5-inch, 64 color e-paper touch screen inside a metal frame. Features include step and sleep tracking, a heart rate sensor and IPX8 water resistance, while battery life is stated at 30 days. As before, the open source PebbleOS platform will offer up thousands of watch faces and apps. Alongside the final design, Migicovsky revealed a few new details about the features, including that the watch will have four colorways and include a second microphone — possibly for noise cancellation. There will also be a compass sensor and a multicolor RGB LED backlight, which sounds cool. The metal frame will be made from stainless steel and the buttons will have a knurling design like the original Pebble Time Steel. "The design that we showed off back in March were preliminary designs," Migicovsky wrote in a blog post announcing the design. "We've been able to tweak and improve the industrial design quite a bit since then. I think it's turned out fantastically well! I even have a working albeit early engineering sample on my wrist." Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. The Pebble Time 2 is slated to start shipping to customers in December 2025. The company is also making a second, cheaper watch called the Pebble 2 Duo that's already available. Back in the day, Pebble gained itself a pretty hardcore following due to the longevity of the devices (30 day battery life!) and the community-led nature of its app development. Whether or not the company can recapture some of that old magic in a world where the Apple Watch Ultra 3 is mere weeks away remains to be seen. My colleague Mike Prospero actually caught up with Migicovsky earlier this year and asked him why he's bringing Pebble back. Here was the response: "I've tried every other watch and it just doesn't hit that like the the core set of features that I want out of a smart watch, which is that it's as an e-paper screen [with] long battery life, hackable, something that you can download fun watch races for and is just simple. "I really don't want that much out of a smart watch. I want it to tell the time, show notifications, let me control my music, do step tracking, sleep tracking, that's it." Pebble smartwatches are making a return; here's what to expect

Pebble smartwatches are set to make a comeback with a new design and updated features. Original founder Eric Migicovsky has teased the upcoming model — now officially called the Pebble Time 2. When the watch was first announced in March, it carried the names Core 2 Duo and Core Time 2. Migicovsky says the company has since regained the Pebble trademark, meaning the devices will now launch under the Pebble name. The final design, revealed on August 13, shows minor visual tweaks alongside a few notable additions. According to Migicovsky's blog post, the Pebble Time 2 will come in four colourways — still to be decided — with customers invited to share their preferences. New features include a compass sensor, screw-mounted back cover, a second microphone for noise cancellation, and a multi-coloured RGB LED backlight. The watch will also take inspiration from the Pebble Time Steel, featuring a full stainless-steel body and stainless-steel buttons. Core specifications remain unchanged from earlier previews. The watch will offer a 1.5-inch 64 e-paper colour display, a touch screen, and a quick-release 22 mm watch strap, with a flat hardened glass lens, a claimed battery life that should last you 30 days, a speaker, a linear motor for vibration, and some resistance to water and dust that is not yet determined. To monitor your health, it will have step and sleep tracking and a heart monitor. And it will pair with a smartphone via Bluetooth, enabling it to connect to the internet, control music on your phone, and show notifications. The watch is available for pre-order; the Pebble Time 2 will cost $225. The Core 2 Duo preorderers can upgrade to the Pebble Time 2 while holding onto their spot in the queue, the company added.

Here's the final design of the Pebble Time 2 e-paper smartwatch

Pebble creator Eric Migicovsky and his new company, Core Designs, have been beavering away on new e-paper smartwatches and the team has just revealed the final design of the higher-end model. The Pebble Time 2 has a 1.5-inch, 64-color e-paper screen, with a touchscreen, metal frame, heart-rate monitor and (it's claimed) up to 30 days of battery life. The frame is a bit more curved than on pre-production versions of the Pebble Time 2. The top and bottom buttons on the right side are now angled rather than sitting in a straight line with the center one. With the strap attached, the Pebble Time 2 weighs about 48 grams, and the body is about 32.5 grams. Core Designs has added more features to the smartwatch as well. The Pebble Time 2's front, rear and buttons will be made using 316 stainless steel. It will also have a multicolor RGB LED backlight, compass sensor and screw-mounted back cover. In addition, the team has incorporated a second microphone, which Migicovsky said could be used to potentially support environmental noise cancellation. It was previously confirmed that the Pebble Time 2 would have a quick-release 22mm strap, flat hardened glass lens, step and sleep tracking and a speaker. The watch will also boast a vibration function and water resistance. Core Designs plans to offer the Pebble Time 2 in four colorways, but the team hasn't settled on the options yet. Once it has, it will email everyone who has pre-ordered the smartwatch and ask them to pick a color. The Pebble Time 2 is currently scheduled to start shipping in December and it will cost $225 (the $149 Pebble Duo 2 became available last month). Migicovsky and the team recently regained the Pebble trademark. As such, they were able to start using the Pebble branding again and renamed what were previously called the Core 2 Duo and Core Time 2.

Pebble's smartwatch is back: Pebble Time 2 specs revealed

Eric Migicovsky, the original creator of the Pebble smartwatch, on Wednesday showed off the new designs for the upcoming watch, now known as the Pebble Time 2. Although the company originally branded its new watches as the Core 2 Duo and Core Time 2 when it first announced its plans to return to the market in March, Migicovsky says the company has since been able to regain the Pebble trademark. That means the new watches will instead be called the Pebble 2 Duo and the Pebble Time 2. Migicovsky's company, Core Devices, had also shown off early ideas for the watches back in March, but today it's revealing the final design for the Pebble Time 2. The industrial design of the watch has changed, and a handful of new features have been added, notes Migicovsky in a blog post. The Time 2 will debut in four colors, still yet to be determined; Pebble buyers will have input later on, the company says. Plus, the company is adding a multicolor RGB LED backlight, a second microphone (to aid with a potential environmental noise cancellation feature), a compass sensor, and a screw-mounted back cover. The watch will be stainless steel on the front and back, and feature stainless steel buttons like the older Pebble Time Steel. Other previously announced specs will remain the same, including Pebble's plans for a 1.5-inch 64 color e-paper display, a touch screen, a quick-release 22mm watch strap, a flat hardened glass lens, 30-day estimated battery life, heart rate monitor, step and sleep tracking, speaker, linear actuator motor (for vibration), and a waterproof rating of some sort, which is yet to be determined. The Pebble Time 2 is available for pre-order for $225 and will pair with a smartphone via Bluetooth, allowing it to display notifications, control the music on your phone, and connect with the internet. The company also noted that people who pre-order the Core 2 Duo can upgrade to the Pebble Time 2 while reserving their place in line. To do so, customers shouldn't cancel the original order, but instead wait for an email survey link that will be emailed in the next month or so, offering the option for them to catch their order.
