Erykah Badu and The Alchemist are really making an album together, and their first single is finally here.
Badu and the West Coast producer dropped their new song 'Next to You' at midnight after she performed Badu Presents: Echos 19 in her hometown of Dallas as part of Forever in Rotation, Amazon Music's Juneteenth celebration.

According to a press release, the Dallas singer self-executive produced, wrote, composed, arranged and produced the single in collaboration with The Alchemist, who provided the beat from his classic 1999 record 'The Realest' featuring the late Prodigy and Kool G Rap from Mobb Deep's fourth album, Murda Muzik, for her to flip. And she did just that as she sang about wanting to smoke blunts and hang out after school with a significant other with the beat switching midway as Badu put her own ''izm on it.'
Erykah recently announced that she will be releasing music independently through her own label, Control FREAQ Records, which was established since 2005, and whose first signee was Jay Electronica, the father of her third child. She has been with Motown since 2007 and hasn't released a project since the 2015 mixtape But You Can't Use My Phone.
Starting on Tuesday (June 24) at Billboard Live Osaka, the two legends will be hitting the stage together in a trio of shows in Japan courtesy of Billboard Live for The Abi & Alan Japan Tour. Saturday (June 28) at Billboard Live Tokyo and Monday (June 30) at KT Zepp Yokohama are the other two dates.

Taylor Swift Gives Update on Her Parents' Health on ‘New Heights'

Almost 20 years into Taylor Swift's iconic career, Swifties are just as acquainted with her parents as they are with her tracks from the vault. If you've been to a Taylor concert over the years, you may have met Scott and Andrea Swift, as they famously gift fans guitar picks and upgrade their seats—and you've definitely heard stories about them in songs like 'The Best Day' and 'Picture to Burn.' After her parents recently faced a few health complications—including Scott's recent quintuple bypass surgery—Taylor gave fans an update during her surprise appearance on the New Heights podcast with her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, and his brother, Jason Kelce, on August 13. 'My dad had an interesting summer. He actually had a quintuple bypass surgery, and that's a really intense surgery,' Taylor told Jason once he asked about her father's recovery. She revealed that her dad is doing 'incredibly well' after the procedure, which she said happened 'really fast' after he took a resting stress test during a check-up. At the time, doctors found five blockages in his heart and advised him to have the surgery ASAP. 'They're like, 'We gotta do this tomorrow. We don't know how you walked in here, dude. This is crazy,'' she explained. Once he underwent the procedure, Tay revealed that she, her mom, and her brother all moved in with him to help him recover. 'We moved in with him for the whole summer, pretty much. You know, 'cause you can't really walk on your own. We had a harness for my dad, just walking dad on his harness,' she shaed. 'He was like the loveliest patient ever. He kept saying thank you over and over again.' As for her mom, Taylor said she's doing well after getting knee surgery and seems to be in good spirits, with Tay joking, 'This was the summer of my parental upgrades. We're just upgrading the parents, making sure they live to be at least 186 years old, because they are two of my best friends.' Her updates come after years of health complications for both of her parents, who are cancer survivors. In 2015, the Grammy winner penned an essay on Tumblr revealing Andrea's initial diagnosis, per Billboard. While specifics were kept under wraps, she shared, 'She wanted you to know. She wanted you to know why she may not be at as many shows this tour. She's got an important battle to fight.' A few years later, in 2019, Taylor wrote another essay for Elle, revealing that both her parents had cancer at different points. 'I've had to learn how to handle serious illness in my family. Both of my parents have had cancer, and my mom is now fighting her battle with it again,' she wrote at the time. That same year, Taylor released her emotional ballad, 'Soon You'll Get Better,' featuring one of her mom's favorite artists, The Chicks, about her tumultuous health journey.

Drake And Lil Wayne's Early Collaboration Returns At A New High Point

Lil Wayne helped Drake begin his music career nearly two decades ago, and the two have been great friends and frequent collaborators ever since. The pair rank among the most successful in hip-hop history, and they regularly appear on the Billboard charts next to one another. This frame, Drake and Wayne jointly return to one list with a decade-plus-old tune — one which manages to somehow become an even bigger win than ever before. 'She Will' Returns at a New Peak 'She Will,' fronted by Wayne and featuring Drake, reappears on the Rap Streaming Songs chart this week. The collaboration comes back at No. 14 – 25 weeks into its time on the tally — and climbs to a new peak position on Billboard's ranking of the most-streamed rap tracks throughout the U.S. Tha Carter IV 'She Will' was pushed as a single from Wayne's album Tha Carter IV in August 2011. The tune arrived shortly before the full-length, the fourth in his famed Tha Carter series. Recently, 'She Will' has gone viral on TikTok, which has helped it reappear on the Rap Streaming Songs chart. 'She Will' Reached No. 3 on the Hot 100 During its initial run on Billboard's tallies, 'She Will' became a huge hit for both Wayne and Drake. The tune peaked at No. 3 on the Hot 100, rose to No. 1 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs list, and missed out on becoming a champion on the Hot Rap Songs roster by just one spot. Drake Dominates the Rap Streaming Songs Chart The Rap Streaming Songs chart only features 15 spaces, and this week Drake claims one-third of all available real estate. In addition to 'She Will' reappearing in second-to-last place, the Canadian hip-hop powerhouse earns another comeback, as 'Wait For U' – fronted by Future and also featuring Tems – breaks back in at No. 12. At the same time, his own cuts 'Which One' with Central Cee, 'Nokia' and 'What Did I Miss?' appear at Nos. 4, 5 and 7, respectively.
