Netflix just dropped an intense trailer for a new crime drama series — and it's streaming soon

Netflix just dropped a trailer for "Rivers of Fate," a new drama directed by Quico and Fernando Meirelles — and it looks like an intense watch. The streaming service's new Brazilian limited series revolves around a teenager who is kidnapped by a gang operating on the rivers of Pará in Brazil, and her subsequent fight for survival. Billed by Netflix as "a riveting, immersive journey deep into the north of Brazil," the series (which is also known as "Pssica") is based on the book "Pssica" written by Edyr Augusto, a writer from Pará in northern Brazil. The "Rivers of Fate" trailer sets up this harrowing journey with frantic scenes from the kidnapping and her imprisonment. It's very fast-paced and really ramps up the drama as the search for Janalice gets underway; cue snapshots of violence, of action, and jeopardy. If the upcoming miniseries looks like your kind of show, you can look forward to streaming "Rivers of Fate" on Netflix from Wednesday, August 20. When the series started shooting last summer, Netflix shared a synopsis, which reads: "The plot focuses on three characters whose lives become intertwined when they meet on the Atlantic side of the Amazon —Janalice (Domithila Catete), a victim of human trafficking, Preá (Lucas Galvino), who must make peace with his fate as the leader of a local criminal organization known as the "water rats"; and Mariangel (Marleyda Soto), who is seeking to avenge the deaths of her family. All three of them must try to break the curse, or "pssica," that they believe has been cast on them." Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. In addition to the above names, the "Rivers of Fate" cast also includes Ademara, Bruno Goya, Claudio Jaborandy, Luca Dan, Ricardo Teodoro, Sandro Guerra, Welket Bungué, and Wesley Guimarães. The screenplay was penned by Bráulio Mantovani, Fernando Garrido and Stephanie Degreas, and produced by Andrea Barata Ribeiro and Fernando Meirelles for O2 Filmes. Trisha Paytas Videos Flooded With Ozzy Osbourne Comments

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The YouTuber Trisha Paytas has given birth to a third child with Moses Hacmon, which coincided with the death of British heavy metal legend Ozzy Osbourne. The coincidence has ushered in a new development in a bizarre, viral theory about Paytas' children. Newsweek has contacted Paytas for comment outside regular working hours. Why It Matters On Tuesday, Osbourne, the legendary frontman of Black Sabbath and godfather of heavy metal, died at the age of 76—weeks after an emotional farewell with fans at Villa Park in his hometown of Birmingham. Tributes have poured in for the "Prince of Darkness," who had been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease and had suffered from ongoing health issues following a 2019 fall. What Is the Trisha Paytas Baby Theory? The original social media theory emerged in September 2022 when Queen Elizabeth II died at the age of 96. Twitter users noted that in the hours that preceded the death of the longest-reigning monarch in British history, Paytas—a nonbinary YouTube sensation—had announced that they had gone into labor with their first child. Social media users then decided that Paytas' child was the reincarnation of the monarch. This theory has gained traction over the years. When Paytas announced their third pregnancy, it coincided with the announcement that Pope Francis had died, sparking theories that their child would be the reincarnation of the pope. Paytas, addressing the theory on her podcast at the time, said, "I just don't get it." More/What To Know Paytas, 37, gained popularity online for lifestyle videos. The YouTuber, who has been associated with a plethora of controversies over the years, is the host of the podcast Just Trish. Paytas' first child, a daughter named Malibu Barbie, was born in 2022. They later welcomed their second child, a daughter named Elvis, on May 24, 2024. Their third child, Aquaman Moses, was born on July 12, 2025. Paytas announced his birth in an Instagram post on July 22. The post has been liked more than 1 million times as of reporting. Following Paytas' announcement, their social media pages have been flooded with comments about Osbourne. One comment on the Instagram post, which has been liked more than 68,000 times, said, "Ozzy, that you?" Meanwhile, a TikTok about the theory, which has been viewed more than 1.4 million times, said, "Trisha girl this needs to STOP." The post was captioned, "Wrong person Trish," and included screenshots of the death announcements of Queen Elizabeth II, Pope Francis and Osbourne. Newsweek spoke with entertainment journalist Indigo Stafford, who runs the pop culture news page IndigoReports, about the viral theory and why fans are so invested in it. "I think the internet is so obsessed with this theory because of how invested we are in Trisha Paytas as fans," Stafford told Newsweek over email. "She has become an internet sensation and almost a head of state for the chronically online (people who consume a lot of social media). She is known for being her real, raw, and authentic self online. And people love her unfiltered sense of dark humor. " Stafford said that ultimately, this is "what the Trisha Paytas baby conspiracy is." "It's a bit of online dark humor that's possibly gone too far, but that brings us some light relief in uncertain times—just like Trisha does," she continued. What People Are Saying Trisha Paytas said on their podcast: "Is it just any influential person that dies get to come reincarnated as my baby? … I don't understand why my womb is carrying all of these souls." Indigo Stafford, the entertainment journalist who runs the pop culture news page IndigoReports, told Newsweek: "You see all of the comments being left on news articles about the pope passing and now Ozzy. And all of the top comments are about Trisha Paytas. And you get to be part of a massive online inside joke that only some people are in on. I will admit there has been some very bizarre timing at play, which only makes the theory more interesting!" User @_lastday0nearth wrote on X in a post viewed 4.9 million times: "You're laughing. ozzy osbourne just got resurrected as trisha paytas' baby and you're f****** laughing." User @beyoncegarden wrote on X in a post viewed 1 million times: "Trisha paytas has officially reincarnated 3 people: queen elizabeth, pope francis, & ozzy osbourne, it's getting scary." What Happens Next The theory—which first piqued interest online almost three years ago, a veritable lifetime in internet years—has shown no signs of going away.

'Predator: Badlands' makes the monstrous hunter a hero. Here's what to know about the sequel.

"Predator: Badlands," the next live-action movie in the "Predator" franchise, pushes the story into the future. The franchise mainly follows a race of creatures called the Yautja, who travel the universe to brutally hunt different species using advanced technology. It started with 1987's "Predator," which spawned five sequels. The most recent live-action "Predator" movie, " Prey," from the director Dan Trachtenberg, was released on Hulu in 2022. It is set in the 1800s and follows a Native American woman named Naru (Amber Midthunder) who protects her people from the titular hunter. It was met with huge praise from critics and earned a 94% score on Rotten Tomatoes. He also directed the animated movie, "Predator: Killer of Killers," which earned a 95% score. Trachtenberg has returned for "Predator: Badlands," which follows an entirely new set of characters on a different planet. It's out in theaters on November 7, 2025. Most "Predator" film take place on Earth, but the new movie is set on a remote world somewhere else in the galaxy. The first trailer spotlights a young Yautja named Dek, played by the stuntman Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi. The synopsis teases that Dek is an outcast from his clan who "embarks on a treacherous journey in search of the ultimate adversary," although it's not clear who or what that opponent is. Regardless, Dek is the protagonist of "Predator: Badlands" rather than the villain, which is a first for the series. In November, Trachtenberg told Empire Magazine, "He's still badass, but there's something there that touches you emotionally, too. "Creating a character you connect with, but are also super-intimidated by, has been challenging. But exciting." Elle Fanning plays a Weyland-Yutani android opposite the Predator. Elle Fanning is the only major star in "Predator: Badlands." She plays Thia, an android who appears to be made by Weyland-Yutani, because the company's "W" logo appears when her eyes roll backward in the trailer. Fans of "Alien" will know that Weyland-Yutani is the nefarious company from that franchise, which confirms that the Predators exist in the same universe as the Xenomorphs. Whether they end up brawling remains to be seen. Trachtenberg already has an idea for another sequel if "Predator: Badlands" performs as well as "Prey" and "Predator: Killer of Killers." He told SFX Magazine in June that he's excited about the idea for his third film. "After 'Prey' came out, and I started thinking about sequel stuff, there were three ideas that I had. 'Killers' is one, 'Badlands' is two and the third one is something else," he said. "There's a lot of cool ideas out there and none of them are just like, 'Oh, we have to say the next part of this story because it was successful.' All of it is like, 'Whoa, no one has done that in sci-fi. No one has done that in 'Predator.' No one's done that with the creature,' all of those ideas are generated from that instinct. So, yeah, there is definitely a third thing that I'd love to get to when Badlands is finished."
