Amnesty International Accuses Israeli Occupation Of Pursuing "Deliberate" Starvation Policy In Gaza
LONDON, Aug 19 (Bernama-QNA) -- Amnesty International accused the Israeli occupation on Monday of pursuing a "deliberate" starvation policy in Gaza, Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported.
The organisation warned, in a report prepared for the United Nations and non-governmental organisations, that the Gaza Strip is on the brink of imminent famine.
After interviewing 19 displaced Palestinians and two medical personnel treating malnourished children, the organisation stated that "Israel is carrying out a deliberate campaign of starvation in the occupied Gaza Strip, systematically destroying the health, well-being and social fabric of Palestinian life."

The organisation explained that the testimonies it collected confirm that "the deliberate outcome of plans and policies designed and implemented by Israel over the past 22 months deliberately imposed on Palestinians in Gaza living conditions calculated to lead to their physical destruction."
It added that this is part of the ongoing genocide being carried out by Israel against Palestinians in Gaza.
Last April, Amnesty International accused Israel of committing "genocide since October 7, 2023."

Car set ablaze outside Turkish parliament before meeting on PKK disarmament
ANKARA (Reuters) -A car was set ablaze near Turkey's parliament on Tuesday in a grim reminder of decades of conflict with the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), just hours before families of some victims were to address a commission overseeing the group's disarmament. The PKK, which took up arms against the Turkish state in 1984, said in May it would disarm and dissolve. The parliamentary commission was launched this month to set a path towards lasting peace, which would also resonate in neighbouring Iraq and Syria. The white Renault Toros burned for a short time outside parliament's main gate on Tuesday morning. Police in Ankara said in a statement that a man detained for setting it alight suffered from psychological problems and also had a prior criminal record. In the 1990s, during one of the bloodiest phases of the PKK conflict, such vehicles became notorious in the mainly Kurdish southeast where they were linked to abductions and extrajudicial killings blamed on state-linked groups. More than 40,000 people were killed in the fighting over more than four decades. Families of security personnel and civilians killed in the conflict are due to speak at the parliamentary commission on Tuesday, with some expected to question the peace effort. The PKK is designated a terrorist group by Turkey and its Western allies. Its jailed leader, Abdullah Ocalan, had urged it to end the insurgency and some militants burned their weapons last month in a ceremony in northern Iraq - where they are now based - marking a symbolic first step. Australia condemns Israel over revoked diplomat visas amid tensions
SYDNEY: Australia has rebuked Israel for cancelling visas held by its diplomatic staff assigned to the Palestinian Authority. The move came after Australia barred far-right Israeli politician Simcha Rothman from entering the country ahead of a speaking tour. Foreign Minister Penny Wong called Israel's response an 'unjustified reaction' that undermines peace efforts. 'At a time when dialogue and diplomacy are needed more than ever, the Netanyahu Government is isolating Israel and undermining international efforts towards peace and a two-state solution,' Wong stated. Tensions escalated after Australia announced plans to recognise Palestinian statehood at the upcoming UN General Assembly. Israel retaliated by revoking visas for Australian envoys and scrutinising future visa applications from Australian officials. Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar linked the decision to Australia's refusal to grant visas to certain Israeli figures. The dispute highlights growing diplomatic friction between the two nations over Middle East policy.
