Google Pixel vs Apple iPhone: The AI showdown
Google released a new advertisement for its upcoming Pixel 10 smartphone. The teaser comes with a bold statement and is indirectly mocking Apple for the delayed roll out of

on iPhone. 'If you buy a new phone because of a feature that's coming soon. But it's been coming soon for a full year. You could change your definition of soon Or you could just change your phone. Ask more of your phone. Google Pixel 10,' the ad's narrator said. After this the ad also flashed the launch date of Google Pixel 10 which is August 20.
With this new ad, Google aims to highlight that Pixel smartphones come with advanced AI tools which have been around for months. On the other hand, Apple's Siri revamp and generative AI features are still under development.
Why Apple AI features got delayed
Apple's software chief Craig Federighi has offered the most detailed explanation yet for why the company's highly anticipated AI-powered Siri features, first promised at WWDC 2024, have been delayed until 2026. In a series of post-keynote interviews, Federighi admitted that Apple's initial approach "just doesn't work reliably enough to be an Apple product."
Federighi revealed that while Apple had working prototypes of the enhanced Siri capabilities, including personal context awareness and cross-app functionality, the features only performed correctly about two-thirds of the time.
"This just doesn't work reliably enough to be an Apple product," Federighi told The Wall Street Journal, providing his most candid assessment of the situation. In the same WSJ interview, he reiterated the technical challenges: "We found that when we were developing this feature that we had, really, two phases, two versions of the ultimate architecture that we were going to create."
Speaking to TechRadar and Tom's Guide in a joint podcast interview, Federighi expanded on the architectural problems: "We realized that V1 architecture, we could push and push and put in more time, but if we tried to push that out in the state it was going to be in, it would not meet our customer expectations or Apple standards."
Google Pixel 10 launch and other details
As mentioned above, Google will launch the Pixel 10 lineup on August 20. where it's expected to unveil four new smartphones under the Pixel 10 series: the Google Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and the Pixel 10 Pro Fold. Like every year, the launch event is likely to be livestreamed on YouTube. While specific details on features and specifications are still under wraps, the event promises to showcase Google's latest advancements in smartphone technology as the leaked tagline for this year's Pixel event is said to be 'Ask more of your phone'.

Attention Gmail users! Google warns of hidden AI scam stealing passwords, 1.8 billion accounts vulnerable
Google has warned its 1.8 billion Gmail users worldwide of a new cybersecurity threat that exploits advances in artificial intelligence, reported Men's Journal. The company has reportedly raised the alarm overindirect prompt injections, a form of attack that it says could target individuals, businesses and even governments. In a recent blog post, Google explained that unlike direct prompt injections, where hackers enter malicious commands into an AI tool, indirect attacks involve hiding harmful instructions within external sources such as emails, documents or calendar invites. Once processed, these instructions can trick the system into exposing sensitive information or carrying out unauthorised actions. 'With the rapid adoption of generative AI, a new wave of threats is emerging across the industry,' the company wrote, warning that the risk becomes more significant as AI is used more widely for professional and personal tasks. Technology expert Scott Polderman toldThe Daily Record that attackers are exploiting Gemini, Google's own AI chatbot, to conduct such scams. He explained that malicious code can be concealed within an email and, when read by Gemini, used to extract login details without the user realising. 'The danger is that people don't need to click on anything,' Polderman said. 'Hidden instructions can cause the AI to reveal passwords and other data, effectively turning the system against itself.' Google has reportedly said it has already begun rolling out new protections. These include strengthening its Gemini 2.5 model, introducing machine-learning systems to spot suspicious prompts, and adding wider security measures at the system level. According to the company, these layers are designed to raise the difficulty and expense of such attacks, forcing cybercriminals to use less subtle and more detectable methods. The warning comes amid growing concern about how artificial intelligence could be manipulated for malicious purposes, highlighting the potential risks of embedding AI tools into everyday services relied upon by billions of users worldwide.

Apple Watch lineup in 2026 could finally support Touch ID, leak claims
With the expected launch of the Apple Watch Ultra 3 and Series 11 just weeks away, new leaks point to a more significant update coming further down the line. Code discovered in Apple's internal systems reportedly suggests that the 2026 Apple Watch range may include Touch ID support. The findings, first reported byMacworld, reveal references to 'AppleMesa' in Apple's internal code, a long-standing codename for Touch ID. According to the report, the entries explicitly reference models slated for release in 2026. The feature does not appear in any code linked to current or imminent Apple Watch versions, indicating that biometric authentication remains at the prototype stage. If implemented, Touch ID would add an alternative method of unlocking the watch and approving transactions, currently managed via passcodes or the double-press side button. While the utility of Touch ID on a watch remains uncertain, it could streamline some user interactions, particularly unlocking the device without entering a code. Separately, a recentDigitimes report claimed that the 2026 Apple Watch will likely see its number of sensor components double. While these are largely expected to serve health monitoring functions, it is possible that Touch ID hardware could contribute to the increase. Apple has not confirmed any plans, but the code entries suggest that biometric authentication is at least under consideration for future watch models. Meanwhile, Apple appears to have inadvertently revealed details of upcoming hardware through identifiers found in publicly shared software code, offering rare insights into potential launches across multiple product lines. Highlighted by MacRumours, the report points to next-generation chips for the iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Apple TV, and Vision Pro, supporting earlier reports about Apple's roadmap for 2025 and 2026. Apple's software often contains device strings, codenames, and chip references that can appear before official announcements, signalling new product families even if final specifications remain unconfirmed. According to the publication, the latest findings suggest a series of upgrades spanning silicon, display technology, and connectivity, as well as a potential Apple TV refresh with enhanced AI and gaming capabilities.
