77-year-old pulled from mangled wreck after hitting building

BUTTERWORTH: A 77-year-old man escaped with minor injuries after his Perodua Kenari crashed into a building undergoing renovation along Jalan Jetty Lama here today.
The Butterworth fire station was alerted to the incident at 2.03pm and arrived at the scene five minutes later.
The incident occurred when the vehicle lost control and collided with the structure.
Penang Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations John Sagun Francis said, when they arrived at the scene, they found G. Palanivelu, trapped in the car's driver seat.
"Equipped with full PPE, the rescue team used specialised tools to extricate him safely by 2.28pm.
The injured man was then handed over to paramedics for further treatment," he said in a statement today.
John said firefighters continued clearing debris from the site with assistance from the Seberang Prai City Council (MBSP).

The blaze consumed nearly the entire vehicle, with an estimated 90 per cent destruction. 'Upon arrival at 7.20am, the fire was found to have engulfed a Perodua Myvi.
