Is Shah Rukh Khan joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Here is what SRK said about going to Hollywood in the past

Indian Express30-04-2025

The king of Bollywood, Shah Rukh Khan, might be thinking of taking his talent overseas, as speculations and rumours are on the rise about him joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The rumour mill started working overtime after a popular X account, MarvelLeaks22, which reports news and updates related to the studio, posted about Shah Rukh. The now-deleted tweet read, 'NEWS/RUMOUR: Shah Rukh Khan (SRK) is rumoured to be in early talks with Marvel Studios for a role in a future project (NOT AVENGERS DOOMSDAY).' Nothing is confirmed, and the fact that the tweet no longer exists doesn't bode well for all the fans, but the X account still has a picture of Shah Rukh posted on their account with no caption.
The actor has been asked about his plans to join Hollywood before as well, and for the most part, he has been clear about what he expects if Hollywood comes to him. While talking to Variety, Khan listed his reasons for not gracing the West up until now and said, 'I don't want to sound uppity, but it should be a role worthy of the status the Indian audience has given me. It should not let down. I come across as very flippant and happy-go-lucky, but I fully respect and realise the amount of adulation I have and how people adore me. People look up to what I do. People have given me too much respect. People have given me and my family everything that I have: people of India and all around the world, Indians and people from the subcontinent.'
Earlier during the 2008 Berlin Film Festival, Shah Rukh had said that he isn't talented enough for Western films, saying he doesn't know Kung Fu and salsa and he isn't tall enough. When asked about his success in the Hindi industry, he said that he was shocked by the kind of reception he has gotten so far as an actor.
If Shah Rukh does decide to come to Marvel, there are definitely a number of characters he could potentially play. Some of the better-known characters of Indian descent are Kingo Sunen and Pavitr Prabhakar, and both have already appeared in previous films with Kumail Nanjiani and Karan Soni playing them, respectively. Other options could be Raz Malhotra (Giant Man), Neil Shaara (Thunderbird) and Paras Gavaskar (Indra), although it is unlikely that any of these heroes would find their way into the upcoming films.

‘Shah Rukh Khan can romance pillars': Sushmita Sen recalls magical moments from Main Hoon Na shoot

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan is one of the most adored actors in the industry. He has a huge fan following not only in India but outside the country as well. Whoever meets SRK, gets mesmerized by his kindness and gentlemanly behavior. Even his co-stars can't stop praising him. He is also known as the romance king and the reason is evident in his films. Let's look back at the time when his Main Hoon Na co-star Sushmita Sen opened up on magical moments from the sets and shared that he can even romance pillars. Yes, you heard that right! Back in 2020, in an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Sushmita Sen reminisced about her experience working with Shah Rukh Khan on Main Hoon Na, describing it as truly unforgettable. She highlighted how SRK was not just a co-star but a caring presence on set, always ensuring his female colleagues felt comfortable and well looked after. His thoughtful and graceful approach made everyone feel at home, turning the shoot into a magical experience. She added, 'SRK had once said that he can romance pillars and that is true. Some of the most magical moments in Main Hoon Na were not scripted, SRK made them come to life.' The actress further shared, 'Like in the introduction, he is not supposed to come on in his scenes and open his arms when Chandni walks in. He did that on the spot and it became iconic. Like that there are lots of lovely moments. He is one of my most loved co-stars, I am a big fan of SRK too.' Meanwhile, on the work front, Shah Rukh Khan will next be seen in the much-awaited film King. He will star alongside his daughter Suhana Khan for the first time. Apart from them, the film also has a star-studded cast including Deepika Padukone, Rani Mukerji, Abhishek Bachchan, Jackie Shroff, Anil Kapoor, Arshad Warsi, Abhay Verma, Saurabh Shukla, and more in key roles. Directed by Siddharth Anand, the film is reportedly set to release in theaters during the last quarter of 2026, sometime between October 1 and December 31.
