Inside Disneyland when it first opened 70 years ago - and tickets only cost £9
The date was July 17, 1955, and a ticket to enter cost just a dollar (50 cents for children), the equivalent of around $12 (£8.92) today - although the park operated a pay as you ride system, with prices costing 23 cents for adults and 10 cents for kids.
Disney fans today can take their pick from six resorts - two in the US, one in Europe and three in Asia, with a brand new park set to open in Abu Dhabi in the 'early 2030s' - but what did the very first incarnation of Walt Disney's vision look like?
The opening day wasn't a success by all accounts, and became known as 'Black Sunday' by Disney employees because of the number of disasters that unfolded. It was so hot under the Californian sun that the asphalt melted under visitors' feet, the drinking fountains didn't work and several rides malfunctioned.
Disneyland estimated around 20,000 people would attend on its first day and tickets were sent out on an invitation-only basis. However, bootleg tickets meant around 35,000 attended and many more crowded the park's entrance too.
Eventually though, Walt and his first team of magic makers - now known as the Disney Imagineers - honed their theme park formula for fun.
Two decades later, the brand's flagship attraction, Walt Disney World, now the world's most visited theme park, opened its doors in Orlando in 1971...and the rest, as they say, is history.

US Vice President meets The Apprentice's Tom Skinner for ‘BBQ & a few beers' as Vance ‘set for breakfast with Farage'
US Vice-President JD Vance has met The Apprentice's Tom Skinner for a barbecue and some beers ahead of his breakfast with Nigel Farage. President Donald Trump's deputy had spent the weekend with his friend and foreign secretary David Lammy at Chevening in Kent before enjoying the party with Skinner on Monday. 4 4 4 The pair have bonded in recent weeks over social media, culminating in the "invitation" to the event with the vice-president. Writing on social media this evening, Skinner said: "When the Vice President of the USA invites ya for a BBQ an beers, you say yes. "Unreal night with JD and his friends n family. He was a proper gent. "Lots of laughs and some fantastic food. A brilliant night, one to tell the grand kids about mate. Bosh." Pictures from the night show the pair smiling and showing thumbs up, with Skinner dressed in a shirt and tie while Vance opted for a more casual short-sleeve shirt. This comes ahead of a meeting between the US vice-president and Reform UK Leader Nigel Farage tomorrow. The pair will have breakfast in the Cotswolds as Vance enjoys both business and pleasure during his UK summer holiday. Already, Vance has held meetings with a number of other political figures during his trip, including Shadow Justice Secretary Robert Jenrick. He had tried to set up a meeting with his friend Kemi Badenoch but their schedules were not compatible. Vance has shown an increasing interest in Reform UK, with it being reported in July he had asked Peter Mandelson about the party, noticing that "they're doing very well". Other attendees at Monday's barbecue were Cambridge academic James Orr and Tory MP Danny Kruger. Describing the image of Vance and Skinner at the event, the former Apprentice star said: "Here is a pic of Me and Vice President towards the end of the night after a few beers. Skinner has found himself catapulted to fame over recent years, following his appearance on The Apprentice in 2019. VANCE HOLIDAYING ACROSS UK JD Vance 's trip to the UK has seen him travelling through the Cotswolds and southern England with his family. The vice-president, his wife Usha, and children Ewan, 8, Vivek, 5, and Mirabel, 3, were seen travelling together in an extensive motorcade. Some locals were left disgruntled, however, as he visited a posh farm shop in the area - leading to a number of road closures and security checkpoints manned by police with sniffer dogs. His 18-strong motorcade caused disruption around Chipping Norton as the VP visited the Daylesford Organic farm shop. Several large black SUVs carrying people believed to be Secret Service agents were seen parked on the driveway. It came after a meeting with Foreign Secretary David Lammy at Chevening House in Kent on Friday. The pair are understood to have forged an unlikely friendship, even spending time with each other's families outside of business meetings. During their meeting, the VP urged Britain to avoid the "very dark path" of silencing free speech. He warned that the West has grown "a little too comfortable with censoring" during his press conference with the foreign secretary. He said: "I think the entire collective West, the transatlantic relationship, our Nato allies, certainly the United States under the Biden administration, got a little too comfortable with censoring rather than engaging with a diverse array of opinions." Mr Vance has previously slammed Britain for enforcing some of the toughest restrictions on free speech globally. In February, during a televised meeting between Sir Keir Starmer and Donald Trump in the Oval Office, the Vice President flagged that "infringements on free speech" are now impacting not only Brits but also American tech firms, "and by extension American citizens". Vance's latest tirade comes after the UK launched a divisive new Online Safety Act which targets children's social media usage.

Shrek 5 release date is delayed until 2027 as fans say they all 'know why'
The release of Shrek 5 has been delayed until summer 2027. The upcoming DreamWorks' movie — whose teaser was slammed by fans — has been pushed back six months, moving from December 23, 2026 to June 30, 2027. Upon hearing the news, initially reported by Variety, fans commented online that they 'know why' the beloved franchise's latest installment has been stalled. 'We all know why,' Instagram user @taco_chacos wrote, while @solomon_br0 demanded, 'Fix that animation.' Eagle-eyed viewers called out the studio earlier this year after they noticed changes to Shrek's appearance. They accused animators of giving the titular character 'rhinoplasty, lip filler, cheek implants, and a jaw shave' among other tweaks. Upon hearing the news, initially reported by Variety, fans commented online that they 'know why' the beloved franchise's latest installment has been stalled Another person reacted, 'Good! Meanwhile, Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy and Cameron Diaz will return to lend their voices to Shrek, Donkey and Fiona respectively. Eddie has suggested that Shrek 5 will be packed full of comedy just as the preceding films have been. The 64-year-old actor told Extra in June: 'I've recorded some great stuff. You know, we don't get a full script when we do the Shrek movies. We get the dialogue that we're doing for each session. And I know I've been doing some really funny stuff.' Eddie explained that he will only get to see his co-stars at the premiere of the movie as all of his voice work for the picture was done alone. He said: 'At the end of the movie or when the movie comes out, we see each other at the premiere, but we don't see each other the whole movie. 'It's all just you by yourself and a microphone.' The Hollywood fixture revealed that Donkey is getting his own standalone film that will begin production in September. Asked if Shrek 5's animation is being worked on now, he told ScreenRant in July: 'No, they're still doing voiceover stuff. We're still in the booth, and literally, we're still doing Shrek. 'We start in September on Donkey. We're doing a Donkey one, and that'll be three years from now, but we're about two years into Shrek 5. Still in the booth and about to start Donkey in September.' The Beverly Hills Cop star confirmed that Donkey will be getting in his own film in the same way that Puss in Boots (Antonio Banderas) has previously and that the picture will see him have his 'own little story with his dragon wife.' 'They've written this funny story. We're doing that, starting that in September,' he reiterated. The prospect of Shrek 5 was first discussed by Illumination founder Chris Meledandri in 2023 as he expressed hope of reuniting the original cast for the movie. The film producer told Variety: 'We anticipate the cast coming back. Talks are starting now, and every indication that we've gotten is there's tremendous enthusiasm on behalf of the actors to return.'
