Teen arrested after woman in her 70s injured during car theft in Co. Clare

A TEENAGER has been arrested after a woman in her 70s was injured during an incident in Co. Clare in which her car was stolen.
The incident occurred at a residential premises in Firhill, Parteen at around 6.15pm on Friday.
The woman was taken to University Hospital Limerick to be treated for injuries that are not life-threatening.
A number of garda units were dispatched and the vehicle was located in the Clonard area, having crashed in a ditch.
The male teenager was subsequently arrested and detained at a garda station in Limerick.
He has been referred to the Youth Diversion Programme and a file is due to be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions. Dublin hit-and-run
In a separate incident, a garda was hospitalised after being struck by an e-bike in a hit-and-run in Dublin on Friday.
The incident occurred at around 2.30pm after gardaí responded to reports of an e-bike causing a disturbance in Porterstown park, Dublin 15.
A garda instructed two males to dismount the e-bike, however, it instead accelerated and struck the guard.
Both the driver and passenger failed to remain at the scene.
The garda was taken to hospital to be treated for injuries that were not life-threatening before being discharged.

The victim has been named locally as Billy O'Grady from North Cork, who was aged in his 20s. Heartbreaking tributes are being paid by GAA clubs and the wider community, remembering him as a "true friend", a "vital part" of his club and a person of "great character". His club Shanballymore GAA has led tributes to the young hurler by sharing a collection of photos on social media. They wrote: "It is with deep sadness and sorrow that Shanballymore GAA have learnt of the untimely passing of club player and friend Billy. A young man of great character and presence who was a credit to his family and our club. "Our condolences go to his parents John and Caroline, siblings Jordon, Kelly and Ollie, girlfriend Chloe, extended family members, friends and all those in the Shanballymore community. Our focus remains on remembering Billy as a player, friend, and clubmate and supporting his family over this most difficult time in their lives. "As a mark of respect to the O Grady and Butler families, all activities in Shanballymore GAA grounds are paused and the walkway will remain closed until further notice. Ar dheis se go raibh a anam." Billy also spent time playing with St Dominic's GAA club, who said news of the "tragic accident" came as a "terrible shock" to the community. A Garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a fatal single vehicle road traffic collision that occurred at approximately 6:50 am Wednesday 20th August 2025 on the M8 (J18) road Southbound, Upper Riverstown, Glanmire, Co Cork. "A man, aged in his 20s, was brought by ambulance to Cork University Hospital. He was pronounced deceased on Wednesday afternoon. "Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them. Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area between 6:40 am and 7:15 am this morning are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí. The horror assault took place in the Temple Bar square area of Dublin 2 shortly after midnight in the early hours of this morning. Gardai and emergency services rushed to the scene at around 12:30am. The victim, understood to be an English tourist aged in his 40s, remains in a critical condition in Beaumont Hospital. A man has been arrested after threatening members of the public with a knife in a Limerick town. The incident occurred on Tuesday at approximately 9pm on Maiden Street in Newcastle West. No injuries were reported. "The male in his 30s was arrested and conveyed to Newcastle West Garda Station. He is currently being detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984," a Garda spokesperson told the Irish Examiner. Investigations are ongoing.
