Saudi Authorities Arrest Four Chinese Nationals Over Fake Hajj Campaign Ads
Rabat – Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Interior has announced the arrest of four Chinese expatriates accused of orchestrating a fraudulent Hajj campaign, following the circulation of a misleading promotional video on social media.
In a post shared Tuesday on its official X account, the ministry confirmed that security patrols in Makkah had apprehended the individuals for publishing fake advertisements claiming to offer housing and transportation services for pilgrims within the holy sites.
The suspects allegedly used social media platforms to promote the unauthorized campaign, luring potential pilgrims with false promises during one of the most tightly regulated religious events in the country.
'They were arrested, legal measures were taken against them, and they were referred to the Public Prosecution,' the ministry's statement said.
Alongside the announcement , authorities posted blurred photographs showing the detainees from behind.
The Ministry of Interior reiterated its call for both citizens and residents to comply with official Hajj regulations and to remain vigilant against scams, urging the public to report violations via emergency numbers.
The incident comes amid increased scrutiny ahead of the annual pilgrimage season, as Saudi Arabia continues efforts to crack down on unauthorized operators and enhance the safety and organization of Hajj logistics.
Yesterday, the Moroccan Ministry of Islamic Affairs also urged all citizens to remain alert against fraudulent announcements related to the Hajj visa.
In a statement, the ministry stressed that performing Hajj requires a specific Hajj visa through the online portal established by Saudi authorities.

Spain seizes 4.7 tons of hashish in truck from Tangier
